As for Oliveira, the former undisputed lightweight champion has been sidelined since last June at UFC 289, snapping his winless run in Canada with a similarly blistering first round win over common-foe, Dariush, stopping the Iranian with ground strikes for a TKO triumph.

Charles Oliveira betting underdog to beat Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 300

Former undisputed lightweight champion, Charles Oliveira initially opened as a surprising betting underdog to beat the surging, Arman Tsarukyan in their confirmed UFC 300 battle in April. And two weeks on the from official announcement of the bout, the Brazilian still remains a decent betting dog to beat the Armenian.

Oliveira, the current number one ranked lightweight contender, has been sidelined from the Octagon since he co-headlined UFC 289 back in June of last year in Canada, ending the nine-fight winning run of streaking Iranian contender, Beneil Dariush.

For Tsarukyan, the grappling force turned in a blistering opening round win of his own back in December in a UFC Fight Night Austin headliner – stopping Dariush with a thunderous right hook KO in the opening minute of their clash.

And slated to make his comeback in an officially billed title-eliminator against Tsarukyan, Sao Paulo native, Charles Oliveira remains a surprising +170 betting underdog to beat the former – who is currently riding a -205 line as a favorite to win against the Brazilian.

Expected to make his return to the Octagon at UFC 294 following his title-eliminator win over Dariush back in June, a nasty laceration above his right eyebrow forced Charles Oliveira from a championship rematch with Islam Makhachev last October.

Fighting the Russian pound-for-pound kingpin back in October the year prior, Charles Oliveira saw his division-best run of 11 straight victories snapped by the American Kickboxing Academy – who wrapped up a stunning second round arm-triangle submission win in the pair’s vacant title meeting.

Himself looking to earn a title fight rematch of his own against Makhachev, Armenian-born contender, Tsarukyan made his UFC bow against the Russian against the former back in 2019 – earning Fight of the Night honors en route to a close decision loss.

The perennial underdog, opening as the betting dog against both Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier during his recent Octagon tenure, Charles Oliveira, the promotion’s most prolific submission artist and outright finisher, landed a vacant title fight win back in 2021 against the Missouri native.

Becoming the first man to finish Chandler by way of knockout since his 2021 move from Bellator MMA, Oliviera rallied to do so in Texas, before becoming the second fighter to stop Poirier by submission – following a prior rear-naked choke win by Hall of Fame star and Makhachev’s training partner, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Suffering losses to just Makhachev and incoming UFC 299 feature, Mateusz Gamrot during his stay in the Octagon, Tsarukyan has turned in notable names such as Olivier Aubin-Mercier, Matt Frevola, Davi Ramos, Joel Alvarez, Damir Ismagulov, and Dariush since his arrival.

UFC 300 takes place on April 12. from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a slew of high-profile fights and title outings already confirmed for the flagship showcase in ‘Sin City’.

As for Armenian contender, Tsarukyan, the surging challenger headlined UFC Austin back in December against Dariush, laying waste to the Kings MMA staple with a brutal opening minute KO win.

Arman Tsarukyan open to fight with training partner Dustin Poirier in UFC return

Gridlocked at the lightweight limit off the back of his sensational knockout win over perennial contender, Beneil Dariush at UFC Austin last month, surging contender, Arman Tsarukyan has claimed he would fight his American Top Team teammate, Dustin Poirier, if he meant he earned a title opportunity with a victory.

Tsarukyan, the current number four ranked lightweight contender, most recently headlined UFC Austin back in December, landing a blistering opening round KO win over perennial lightweight challenger, Dariush in the pair’s main event clash in Texas.

As for Poirier, the former interim titleholder has been sidelined since he took headlining honors at UFC 291 back in July in Salt Lake City, suffering a thunderous second round high-kick KO loss to Justin Gaethje in the pair’s symbolic BMF championship rematch.

Arman Tsarukyan welcomes clash with Dustin Poirier

And attempting to squeeze his way into the lightweight title picture after his win over Dariush, Armenian force, Tsarukyan claimed if it would guarantee him his first crack at divisional gold, he would fight his stablemate, Poirier.

“Yes, I would [fight Dustin Poirier[, to be honest,” Arman Tsarukyan told MMA Fighting. “I don’t want to fight with him. He lost last fight. It doesn’t make sense to fight with him. If I beat him, people say, ‘Oh, he just lost last fight. How do you want to fight for the title?’ I need someone who definitely after that fight, I’m going to get the title fight.”

“It’s like, (Justin) Gaethje or (Charles) Oliveira,” Arman Tsarukyan explained. “So, if Oliveira thinks he’s number one, and he’s got a fight, let’s fight and let’s figure out who is number one if he wins, he can go to the title. If I win, I’ll go.”

UFC Contender believes Islam Makhachev would rather retire than rematch arman tsarukyan: ‘There’s too much risk’

Islam Makhachev and Arman Tsarukyan

Dan Hooker believes Islam Makhachev would rather follow in the footsteps of his mentor, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and retire from the sport of MMA before being matched up with rising contender Arman Tsarukyan.

Since capturing the 155-pound crown at UFC 280, the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ has defended his title twice, both times against current featherweight king, Alexander Volkanovski. With ‘The Great’ now firmly in his rearview, Makhachev is gearing up for his next big challenge. As it stands, there are a handful of viable contenders vying for the opportunity, including Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, and Dustin Poirier.

However, if you peel back the curtain a bit more, you’ll find another emerging contender that could very well hold the key to ending Makhachev’s title reign. Riding a three-fight win streak, Arman Tsarukyan revealed himself as one of the division’s top talents with a brutal 64-second knockout of Beneil Dariush in December.

Tsarukyan has come a long way since coming up short in his promotional debut in 2019 which, ironically, came against none other than Islam Makhachev. Their history would certainly add a level of intrigue to a potential lightweight title tilt, but Hooker doesn’t see the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ hanging around long enough to run it back with the Armenian.

“Yeah, they had a pretty close fight in the first one,” said Hooker during an appearance on The MMA Hour. “Yeah, he could beat him. He’s not going to fight him. I guarantee he’ll retire by the time Arman gets there, for sure. It’s too risky, there’s too much risk. There’s too many other easier fights out there that he’d rather fight. There’s easier fights out there, stylistically.”

Will Fans pay to see Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan 2?

Dan Hooker also questioned whether or not fight fans would be willing to pay a premium price to watch an event headlined by a Makhachev vs. Tsarukyan rematch.

“There are bigger names,” Hooker continued. “No one’s going to buy an Arman Tsarukyan pay-per-view. No one’s tuning in to the press conference. No one’s giving $80 for the pay-per-view. You’d rather watch Islam fight McGregor or Gaethje or something like that.”

With a majority of the lightweight top 10 angling for big-money fights and title opportunities, Hooker may be the one to bite the bullet and accept a fight with Tsarukyan once he’s medically cleared to return.

“I don’t like the guy, I think he’s an idiot,” Hooker added. “I think he’s annoying. Can he fight? A hundred percent. That’s why he’s a very talented young fighter, but he’s just annoying. He’s just a dweeb. I just don’t like him” (h/t Bloody Elbow)
