Bamma 6 logoPress Release – Monday, 16 May 2011: We are proud to announce the broadcast and viewing details for BAMMA 6: Kong vs Ninja plus our first ever free stream via Facebook.

With a stacked fight card that features 16 bouts and world famous commentator “The Voice” Michael Schiavello leading the commentary team BAMMA 6 is set to be the organisation’s most explosive event yet.

Tom “Kong” Watson will headline the event by defending his BAMMA Middleweight Championship against PRIDE veteran and brother of former UFC champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Murilo “Ninja” Rua, with top title contender John Phillips taking on UFC veteran Frank Trigg.

Cage Rage veteran Matt Ewin makes his return after a three-year absence to take on Ivan Salaverry, who is making a sensational return from retirement, replacing the injured Phil Baroni.

BAMMA have now taken steps to ensure the fans watching at home get to see as much as the fight card as possible.

Liam Fisher, Head Of Business Development at BAMMA, said: “With a fight card like this it would be a crime not to broadcast every fight.

“We already have a fantastic partnership with Syfy in the UK which allows the fans in the UK to watch the top three fights live, for free, during a prime time Saturday evening slot, something no other MMA organisation does in the UK right now.

“It’s been said that the UK has been neglected when it comes to international fight cards, so this is something we’ve listened to and taken steps to put right – BAMMA 6 is packed full of international and domestic talent. There are names people know, names people don’t know, but from start to finish this event is stacked with exciting fighters.

“With BAMMA 6 we want to raise the bar again and that’s why we’ve assembled world class talent across the board and brought in top guys like Michael Schiavello to lead the commentating team.

“Not only does every BAMMA fan around the world get to see a top main card they also get to see four stunning prelim fights live via BAMMA.TV, a free live stream of Scott Jansen’s fight on Facebook and every other fight on the card a few days later on BAMMA.TV.”

Bamma 6 logoPress Release – Thursday, 28 April 2011: Europe’s leading MMA promotion BAMMA are proud to announce the final lineup for BAMMA 6: Kong vs Ninja.

In the co-main event of the evening, top Middleweight title prospect, John Phillips (13-3-0) will take on PRIDE and UFC veteran Frank Trigg (20-8-0).

Phillips returns to BAMMA after a devastating 90 second TKO win against Cage Rage veteran James Zikic at BAMMA 4. With BAMMA 6 marking his 3rd appearance on a BAMMA card, Phillips is eager to impress and cement his position as a number 1 contender for Tom Watson’s Middleweight title.

John Phillips said “Trigg is an opponent that most rising MMA middleweight fighters like myself would love to fight. He will be fighting back at his comfortable weight, so I will be fighting him at his strongest. He has a wealth of experience and knowledge that I intend to test my new found skills against. My last fight at BAMMA 4, many saw one side of me. This time the fans will be in for a lot more of what I have to offer.”

Standing in his way of a possible title shot is Frank Trigg. Known for his legendary smack talk and fighting out of the World famous Xtreme Couture Gym in Las Vegas with training partners Randy Couture, Forrest Griffin and Gray Maynard, Trigg makes his long awaited BAMMA debut to take on the Welsh prospect.

Frank Trigg said “I am very happy to announce my upcoming bout at Wembley Arena as well as my new association with BAMMA. I have been a fan of the energy and enthusiasm generated by the BAMMA shows and can’t help but correlate the continued improvement in MMA in the UK with BAMMA’s incredible expanding fan base”

A big change on the card comes from the loss of Phil Baroni, forced out through an injury picked up in his last fight and now in a state where doctors are preventing him from fighting again in May.

Accepting the fight at short notice will be long time UFC veteran Ivan Salaverry, making his return to MMA after a 3 year absence to face Matt Ewin. Notable for being a pioneer of the crucifix position from side control, often referred to by UFC commentator Joe Rogan as “The Salaverry”, the Canadian middleweight returns from retirement to make his BAMMA debut.

Ivan Salaverry said “I am absolutely excited and really honored to be making my entry back into MMA on BAMMA’s stage. It has always produced exciting fights, and is growing exponentially with each show. BAMMA is now in the top 5 promotions in the World and I just feel fortunate to be with them. In the past few months of negotiating, I just kept training and telling my team that I had to be ready and now here I am and ready to get out there and perform to the level that will put me hopefully on a championship contention course”

On the late change of opponent Mat Ewin had this to say “I’m totally gutted that Baroni has pulled out the fight, especially at this late hour. I was looking forward to a real scrap with the New York Bitch. The change of the opponent I consider way better technically, especially on the ground. Now I’m looking for a TKO victory over Ivan Salaverry. Be warned, Ewin is back!!”

Long time Cage Rage veteran Jeremy ‘Badboy’ Bailey makes his MMA return after a 3 year absence, taking on an as yet unnamed opponent.

Bailey said “As long as there is blood running through my veins and time left on the clock, I will try to end my opponents career. It doesn’t matter who it is. I will never give ground and never take a backward step, if I’m still breathing, I not losing!”

South London Fire Fighter, Kurt Johnson makes his professional MMA debut against 2-1-0 Kenny Moyston

Kurt said “This fight is a huge opportunity on a great show, a huge stage for any fighter to make their professional debut. I’m looking to turn some heads, impress the crowd and finish the fight – all in my back yard!”

Jude Samuel, matchmaker for BAMMA says “This is the one of biggest and strongest MMA cards this country will ever witness. 16 fights in one night at one of the most iconic sporting venues this country has to offer. With every event we aim to draw a line in the sand and give the fans the high quality of entertainment that they are seeking for, whilst answering any questions people may have about our goals and ambitions for the future. It’s a team effort and we have the whole MMA industry to thank. Bring on BAMMA 6!”

As well as being able to watch the top 3 fights live, for the first time ever, fans in the UK and around the World will be able to watch the preliminary card via BAMMA.TV. A selection of fights from the prelims will be available live with the rest available on-demand after the event. Fans can pre-register for BAMMA.TV now

frank-trigg-1Former UFC veteran, and current HDNet color commentator, Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg (20-8) has agreed to meet Welsh striker John “The White Mike Tyson” Phillips (13-3) at an upcoming BAMMA 6 event.

MMAFighting.com confirmed the signing with Trigg’s manager Sam Spira on Friday.

BAMMA 6 is scheduled to take place on May 21 at the Wembley Arena in London, England. The event also includes other notable names such as Phil Baroni, and Murilo “Ninja” Rua who meets BAMMA 185 lb champ Tom Watson in the main event for that promotions title.

Trigg is 1-2 in his last three fights, winning his last bout in November at a Israel FC” Genesis event, winning a first round TKO. Both of the two losses were under the UFC banner and both were by first round knockout. “Twinkle Toes” was KO’d by Matt Serra at UFC 109 and by Josh Koscheck at UFC 103.

Phillips has fought exclusively in Europe and is riding a five fight win streak at this time. “The White Mike Tyson” has earned twelve of his thirteen wins by (T)KO over his six year career. He has only fought into the third round once, and ended up losing a unanimous decision to Watson, the current BAMMA middleweight champ. His last fight took place in the fall on the BAMMA 4 card, earning a first round knockout win over fellow Brit James Zikic.

Phil_BaroniPress Release – We are proud to announce 2 more fights to the stacked BAMMA 6 card including the UK return of The New York Badass, Phil Baroni.

Fighting out of the World famous American Kickboxing Academy in San Jose, California, home to the current UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez, Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch, the UFC and PRIDE veteran Baroni makes his BAMMA debut fresh off the back of a unanimous decision win against Nick Nolte last month.

The New York Bad Ass previously fought at Wembley Arena under the Cage Rage promotion, beating Scott Jansen by KO after a huge right handed haymaker.

Coming in to the fight as a big fan favourite, Phil Baroni says, “It’s great to be back at Wembley Arena and fighting for such a great organisation as BAMMA.”

His opponent and fellow Cage Rage veteran, Gloucester’s Matt Ewin is making his return to the cage after a 3 year break but with an impressive 4 fight win streak before the break, with notable wins over Alex Reid, Mark Epstein and Xavier Foupa-Pokam.

The Ground and Pound specialist, Matt Ewin says, “Its great to be making my MMA return with such a high profile and professional organisation such as BAMMA. I’m coming to Wembley to make a big impact and add to my winning streak. I’ve got the endurance and strength to take home the win.”

About his opponent, a confident Ewin says, “I’ll be keeping an eye on his striking but he’s got absolutely nothing on the ground. He’s slow and he gasses really quick so it’s up to me to make him gas. It will be an easy win for me.”

BAMMA matchmaker, Jude Samuel, says, “This is going to be a very exciting fight to watch. With Matt’s return to the cage after 3 years and Phil’s return to Wembley after 3 years, all eyes are on this fight. Two veterans bringing experience, fire and passion to BAMMA. This is what great fights are made of!”

Completing a quartet of Brazilians on the card, Curitiba native and training partner for ‘Ninja’ and ‘Shogun’ Rua, the always dangerous Joao Paulo De Souza will take on the English-Italian Middleweight, Valentino Petrescu.

Petrescu, making his long awaited BAMMA debut had this to say about his opponent, “Little is known of Joao Paulo outside of brazil, but I know he is the training partner of former UFC Light heavyweight Champion Shogun Rua. This will be a tough fight and I hope it will be a great stand up war, because I know he likes his Muay Thai same as me. I’m looking forward to making my debut on BAMMA. Its been a long time in the workings, and finally it has arrived at the biggest UK stage in Wembley on the biggest UK show. Paulo is going to go back to Brazil with a bruised body, deflated ego and a new found respect for UK MMA all in 15 minutes! That will be his 15 minutes of fame over!”

Phil_Baroni_It appears that the UK based British Association of Mixed Martial Arts (BAMMA) promotion is looking to bring more attention to their brand of mma with news that former UFC veterans Phil “The New York Bad Ass” Baroni (14-13) and Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg (20-8) would be participating at the upcoming BAMMA 6 event.

News concerning the two fighters originated with MMAFighting.com of the their participation at the event, but MMAjunkie.com has confirmed that no contracts have been signed just yet. No names were given as possible opponents, only that each fighter would meet a UK based opponent.

BAMMA 6 is expected to take place on May 21 at Wembley Arena in London, England. Scheduled as the headliner for the event is a middleweight title bout promotion champ Tom “Kong” Watson and Murilo “Shogun” Rua. The main card for BAMMA’s last event was broadcast live via a $5.00 pay stream on the web at the promotions homepage.

Baroni ended a three fight losing skid by earning a unanimous decision over Nick Nolte in his Titan Fighting Championship debut last Friday night in the co-main event of Titan FC 17 in Kansas City. Baroni looked gassed into the second but managed to still earn the judges decision in the fight. MMAjunkie.com noted that “The New York Bad Ass’” participation at the BAMMA show is still far from assured.

Trigg, meanwhile, also ended a losing skid with a victory in his last fight. The HDNet announcer stopped Israeli fighter Roy Neeman by TKO last November at a Israel FC: Genesis event in Tel Aviv. It was his first fight since his dismissal from the UFC after dropping two straight bouts by first round TKO to Matt Serra, at UFC 109, and to Josh Koscheck at UFC 103.
