CHICAGO, Ill. (October 6, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships today officially announced an October 28th Season 3 Women’s Tournament World Championship fight between the #1 ranked pound-for-pound female fighter in the world Megumi “Mega Megu” Fujii and explosive striker Zoila “The Warrior Princess” Frausto at Bellator 34, which will take place at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, FL.

“This really is a dream matchup for the Women’s 115 lb Title,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Fujii’s ground game is second to none and the same can be said about Frausto’s striking ability. Fujii’s pound-for-pound status will be on the line in what promises to be one of the most electrifying battles in the history of women’s MMA.”

Hailing from Tokyo, Japan, Fujii moved into the MMA record books with her impressive victory over Lisa Ward at Bellator 31 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. With the win, Fujii became the first MMA fighter to win 22 consecutive fights. Widely respected as the most dangerous ground fighter in women’s MMA, out of Mega Megu’s 22 victories, an astonishing 18 have come via submission. Having achieved the rank of black belt in both Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, Fujii is eager to add a Bellator Championship belt to her already impressive resume. To get there, Megumi is in for one of the toughest tests of her decorated career against the hard hitting and fast-rising Frausto.

“For the championship fight against Zoila I’m really going to focus on my striking ability,” said Fujii. “I want to come back to the States strong and try and win the Bellator Championship.”

Frausto continues to rise quickly through the MMA ranks following her drop down in weight from the 135 lb division. The Warrior Princess made a great first impression in Bellator , knocking out the world’s top 125 lb female fighter Rosi Sexton in devastating fashion last June at Bellator 23 to secure her spot in the women’s tournament. Following a convincing unanimous decision victory against the top ten ranked Jessica Pene, Zoila was matched up against dangerous submission specialist Jessica Aguilar in semifinal action taking place at Bellator 31. After three hard fought rounds, it was Frausto that found her hand raised and a ticket to the finals. Zoila is thankful for the opportunity, and ready to compete for a title.

“This the biggest Woman’s Tournament in the World, stacked with the best competition in the weight class,” said Frausto. “Winning this tournament would make me the best of the best, and I want that more than anything in the world right now.”

Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez confronts Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker over the holdup of putting together a bout between himself and Strikeforce lightweight title holder Gilbert Melendez.

“Scott, It seems as though your lightweight champion keeps on calling me out on every interview and I have no problem with that. I’ve never said anything about the kid and I would never say anything at all. Never even approached anybody about fighting Gilbert Melendez. He just doesn’t shut up, every other interview he’s talking about fighting me ‘Oh I want to fight Eddie Alvarez, I want to fight Eddie Alvarez’ and it really makes me look bad because I see it [the interview] the next day later. So Bjorn says it’s OK, I say it’s OK, Gilbert is telling the world that he wants to fight me. I assume you’re the only one left to agree.”

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 4, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships today announced the official fight card for Bellator 33, which will take place at The Liacouras Center in Philadelphia on October 21st, marking the promotion’s first trip to the city.

“We are thrilled to be bringing this World Class event to Philadelphia and to the Worlds,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “On Oct. 21 we have a PPV-worthy super fight between Eddie Alvarez and Roger Huerta, a Welterweight World Title Fight between two of the sport’s most exciting undefeated phenoms, and a host of local fighters on display. This event will be a party for anyone who calls themselves an MMA fan.

Headlining the card will be a highly anticipated lightweight Superfight battle between Philadelphia native and Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez and former UFC star Roger “El Matador” Huerta in one of the most anticipated MMA fights of the year.

In a fight worthy of main event billing, Bellator Season 2 Welterweight champ Ben “Funky” Askren takes on current Bellator Welterweight Champion Lyman “Cyborg” Good for the Bellator World Welterweight Championship. Askren, a 2008 U.S. Olympic wrestler, looks to continue his prolific rise through the MMA ranks and capture his first title while Good hopes to secure hist first title defense.

Another former Olympian brings his talents to Philadelphia as Rick Hawn makes his Bellator debut against LeVon “Da Maynman” Maynard in welterweight action. A 2004 Judo Olympian, the decorated Judoka Hawn enters the fight with a perfect 8-0 record, including six knockout victories.

In Featherweight action, Bellator veteran and World Jiu-Jitsu Champion Wilson Reis battles dangerous WEC alum Deividas Taurosevicius. Reis, a Philadelphia transplant by way of Brazil, is looking for revenge after suffering a rare loss at Bellator 18. Reis lost by decision to countryman Patricio “Pitbull” Freire in the Season 2 semifinals and looks to get back on track against the experienced submission artist Taurosevicius. A jiu-jitsu instructor at three of Philadelphia’s most prominent MMA schools (Daddis Fight Camps, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu United, and Tri-State), Reis is expected to have a large contingent of supporters on hand.

Philadelphia native and Jiu-Jitsu black belt Tim Carpenter fights IFL veteran and New York native Jamal “The Suit” Patterson in light heavyweight action. Carpenter trains at Balance Studios in Philadelphia under the renowned Migliarese brothers and owns a perfect 5-0 professional record.

Former WKA Muay Thai Champion Tuan Pham, who operates his own MMA academy in Center City Philadelphia called Fight Firm, takes on amateur wrestling standout Nick Cottone, who makes his training home at Daddis Fight Camps in downtown Philadelphia.

Two lightweights face off when Eduard Guedes out of Kurt Pellegrino’s MMA Academy in New Jersey puts his undefeated 5-0 record on the line against UFC veteran and New Jersey native Chris “The Story” Liguori.

Local action continues with another of Pellegrino’s top students, Lester Caslow, as he takes on Kenny “The Tooth Fairy” Foster, representing Team Bombsquad in Ithaca, New York. Rounding out the card will be Maryland native Lewis Cassner versus Francis Evans, a local Philadelphia promoter/fighter who is turning pro following an impressive 6-1 amateur career.

CHICAGO, Ill. (October 1, 2010) – Bellator Fighting Championships will crown its Bantamweight Champion when dynamic Ed “Wild” West meets Zach “Fun Size” Makovsky in a Bellator Season 3 Bantamweight World Championship Fight.

“Our Bantamweight division has been fiercely competitive from the first fight, so whether its Ed or Zach who captures this World title, they’ll have earned it every step of the way,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Both of these guys are tremendously talented, great competitors and true sportsman. This has the makings of a really great world title fight”

“Wild” West enters the fight on an impressive seven fight win streak, including tough decision victories against Bryan Goldsby and Jose Vega in the opening rounds of the Bantamweight Tournament. While those victories were impressive in their own right, West knows Makvosky may be his toughest test yet.

“I’ve definitely had to train differently for not only Zach, the fight itself,” West said regarding the potential five round fight. “As the fight moves on it will become harder and harder to lock up a submission, and our endurance levels need to be taken to the next level. It’s going to be a war.”

While West is focused only on Makovsky, it’s difficult for the Tucson native not to look past the fight at hand and think about the glory that comes with being a Bellator Champion.

“Winning the Championship would be more important than anything I have done in the MMA world,” said West. “To win this tournament, you have to win three incredibly tough fights in six weeks. If you can pull that off, it speaks volumes, and it would take my game to the next level.”

Makvosky, a native of Philadelphia, is on a win streak of his own collecting victories in his last five fights. The 5′8 grappling ace’s last two fights have gone the distance; however, the distance is longer in this fight.

“I’m not as concerned with Ed as I am with the length of this fight,” said Makovsky. “With that said, Ed is going to be a huge challenge, and probably the most well rounded fighter I have faced. I’m excited to see what I can do.”
