The Bellator 218 main card kicked off with an exciting middleweight contest that pitted Norbert Novenyi Jr. against William Lavine.

The first round was all Novenyi Jr. as he used his karate style to create openings in his striking game until it was time to take the fight to the ground.

The second round was more of the same. However, Novenyi Jr. was able to sink in a deep arm triangle choke that caused Lavine to tap. (via Twitter)

The win makes it four straight for the Hungarian fighter who trains with Bellator welterweight star Michael “Venom” Page.

Bellator 218 results are underway as the Viacom  promotion holds this latest event on television for fight fans around the world to watch the show.

It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Friday, March 22, 2019) will come in the form of Bellator 218. Headlining the card are Emmanuel Sanchez and Georgi Karakhanyan, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.

Emmanuel Sanchez and Georgi Karakhanyan meet in a featherweight bout in the main event. In round 1, Georgi took him down early and got full guard. Sanchez did his best to defend off his back but it was all Georgi in this spot while landing significant strikes. In round 2, after stuffing a few takedowns, Sanchez gets one of his own and lands back mount of Georgi where he worked him over with some strikes. In round 3, Sanchez worked for a takedown in the early going. When Georgi went for one takedown, Sanchez almost landed an axe kick. Georgi was able to land a takedown in the middle of the round. They grappled to the finish. The judges gave the win to Sanchez.

Valentin Moldavsky and Linton Vassell meet in a heavyweight bout in the co-main event. In round 1, Linton was able to score an early round takedown by Moldavsky got back to his feet where they clinched up against the fence. Linton once again got him down where he worked him over with strikes from half guard. In round 2, Moldavsky stunned him with a combo and Linton dropped to the floor. However, Linton recovered and transitioned to half guard where he sliced him open with elbows that caused a cut on his left temple. In round 3, Moldavsky scored a takedown of his own and landed some strikes from half guard. Moldavsky dominated this round with control and strikes. The judges gave the win to Moldavsky.

Gerald Harris vs. Anatoly Tokov is next in a middleweight bout. In round 1, Harris dropped with him and swarmed with a series of strikes from the back that hurt Tokov badly. The referee didn’t step in which is amazing and the fight continues. Tokov was out of it as they clinched up against the fence. Tokov took him down to end the round. In round 2, Tokov got the guillotine choke and locked it in for the win.

Opening the main card on Paramount Network is Will Lavine vs. Norbert Novenyi Jr. in a middleweight bout. In round 1, Novenyi Jr. took him down in the opening seconds and got his back. Will got back to his feet where they clinched up against the fence. Novenyi Jr. went for a standing guillotine choke but Will got out of it. Novenyi Jr. took him down again to end the round. In round 2, Novenyi Jr. took him down and just out grappled him. Novenyi Jr. landed some big shots while having his back. Novenyi Jr.  locked in the head-arm choke win.

Benson Henderson & Phil Davis are slated to make their return to the cage at the upcoming Bellator 220 event.

On Tuesday, ESPN reported that Henderson will fight Adam Piccolotti in a lightweight bout while Davis will battle it out with former Bellator light heavyweight champion Liam McGeary for a second time in a light heavyweight bout.

Henderson, who is former UFC lightweight champion, is coming off wins over Roger Huerta via second-round guillotine choke in April and Saad Awad by unanimous decision in October.

The first fight between McGeary and Davis went down at Bellator 163 in 2016. This is where Davis defeated McGeary by five-round unanimous decision to win the Bellator light heavyweight championship.

Bellator 220 is set to take place on April 27, 2019 at SAP Center in San Jose, California. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on DAZN at 9:00 PM EST.

The show will be headlined by a welterweight title bout between champion Rory MacDonald and challenger Jon Fitch, which will also serve as a Bellator Welterweight World Grand Prix opening round match. The promotion will be announcing more bouts in the coming weeks. Here’s the updated card:

MMA legend Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has announced his retirement from active competition.

According to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, Cro Cop retired on Croation TV today. He suffered a stroke in his last fight, a unanimous decision win over Roy Nelson at Bellator 216. Although he won the fight, the injury has let him unable to take strikes to his head:

“The legendary Mirko Cro Cop announced his retirement on Croatian TV today. Spoke to him earlier and he confirmed he suffered a stroke after his last fight and he can no longer take punches to the head. He is doing OK, though. “I was very lucky,” he said. More shortly.”

Cro Cop appears thankful his injury was not more significant than it already is. He was understandably emotional announcing his retirement you can watch on Croatian news outlet GOL.hr.

James Gallagher earned a submission win in his latest fight under the Bellator MMA banner.

The rising prospect returned to action in a bantamweight bout in the headliner of the Bellator 217. This event went down on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 3Arena in Dublin, Ireland on the Paramount Network.

As seen in the fight, Gallagher managed to get the back of Steven Graham and lock in the rear-naked choke for the win. This win marks a rebound for the prospect who dropped first-round KO loss to Ricky Bandejas at Bellator 204 in August.
