The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) hearing for Bellator fighter Dillon Danis has finally been set for the end of the month.

When Conor McGregor needed to step his jiu-jitsu game up before he fought Nate Diaz (the first time), he called upon Danis for his help. That was nearly three years ago.

Since then, McGregor and Danis have become close friends and regular training partners. So close, in fact, that Danis was the man that Khabib Nurmagoemedov jumped to attack after defeating McGregor at UFC 229.

As a result of his involvement at UFC 229, Danis was temporarily suspended from competition in the state of Nevada. He was accused of saying something derogatory to provoke Khabib. Danis will have his day in court as the NSAC will welcome the Bellator competitor on Monday, February 25..

The four other men (McGregor, Nurmagomedov, Abubakar Nurmagomedov, Zubaira Tukhugov) involved in the UFC 229 post-fight melee have already been given their suspensions. Danis is expected to be given a fine and or a suspension.

Yet another tournament is on the horizon for Bellator MMA. This time around, Scott Coker says it’s featherweight’s turn.

First, the heavyweights had their run that just saw Ryan Bader defeat Fedor Emelianenko to capture the heavyweight title and win the World Heavyweight Grand Prix. The welterweights are shining now in their Grand Prix. Come this fall, the 145-pounders will have their go.

“When you think about all of the studs we have in that weight division, it just has to be done,” Coker said on a recent episode of Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show.

Coker also said that he has no idea who will participate in the 16-man tournament as of yet. He did, however, reveal that the tournament will kick off this fall and he expects it to last one year.

The opening round will consist of eight fights. Ideally Coker would like all the opening round fights to take place in the same night or on a doubleheader weekend, similar to what we just experienced with Bellator 215 & 216.

Michael Page thinks Paul Daley should retire from the sport following their recent fight inside of the cage.

It was an interesting fight that many didn’t expect on seeing considering of how much it was hyped up to be. This is all due to their styles of striking and knocking folks out. It turned out to be a grappling contest once they started actually doing something, which upset those watching in attendance.

Page was able to score a unanimous decision win over Daley in the headliner of Bellator 216. This show went down on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut and aired on DAZN.

Following the fight, MVP made it known that although he thinks he’ll fight Daley again, he also believes the MMA veteran should call it a career.

“I’ve said this before, seriously, where does he go after I beat him?” he told MMAFighting. “Seriously, where does he go? Maybe he should retire and just be done with it, because he’s not good enough. His gym is a sham. Anybody in Nottingham, or Newcastle or wherever the hell he lives, don’t ever go there. He overcharges and under-delivers, the same way he did here. Under-delivered.

“I don’t see him going nowhere. The reason why he’s been at the level he is, it’s because he can’t get by the top echelon of the sport.”

Ryan Bader has a great reaction to the callout made by MMA veteran Cheick Kongo following his latest win. The longtime UFC/Bellator star picked up another victory to add to his recent streak.

Kongo defeated Vitaly Minakov in a heavyweight bout on the main card of Bellator 216 last night (Sat., February 16, 2019) from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut and aired on DAZN.

Following the fight, Kongo made his stance known that he wants a crack at the Bellator heavyweight and light heavyweight champion. However, Bader wasn’t very interested in the fight. Thus, he voiced his stance through the power of social media. Bader wrote the following on his official Twitter account:

“Hey congrats @kongo4real but you talk like that after that performance?” wrote Bader via Twitter. “There is a reason you weren’t invited into the Heavyweight Grand Prix, what’s that tell you??? I’ll let YOU know what title I decide to defend. Until then, excuse my FRENCH & f*ck off”

Bellator 216 results are in the books as the Viacom-owned promotion staged one of the most anticipated fights in quite some time.

Michael Page and Paul Daley met in a welterweight bout in the main event. The fight settled the bad blood of their years-long rivalry. It is also part of the Bellator welterweight grand prix. In round 1, Daley circling. Page stalking. No one throwing through one minute. Nothing significant happened and one of the worst rounds you will ever see. Not sure if Daley threw one punched.

In round 2, Page landed a big-time front face kick. MVP clowning about and taunting in there as Daley throws a half-hearted kick that catches air. Daley gets the takedown. Daley smothering MVP and landing a couple of punches but not a whole lot else. They’re back to their feet and MVP was seemingly caught off balance after getting hit with a left hand. In round 3, Page sprawls and throws elbows, but he’s warned for hitting the back of the head. Hard right hand and a big left by Daley. He’s teeing off with some good shots to the head.

In round 4, overhand right by MVP lands. Daley felt that. And Daley takes Page down again. Daley is on top and has had no meaningful offense. Big flying knee by MVP hurts Daley. In round 5,  hammerfists and power shots on the ground from Daley. Some of them land. Other miss. MVP got the back of Daley with two minutes to go and rained down strikes. Daley scrambled out and MVP ended the round on top. The judges gave the decision win to MVP.

Mirko Cro Cop vs. Roy Nelson was next in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Nelson throws his overhand right and has his takedown stuffed. Hard uppercut on the inside by Cro Cop. Nelson with a couple of knees but he got drilled with another uppercut, and now an elbow on the break. Nelson drops for the takedown and gets stuffed. In round 2, “Big Country” is just getting bullied in the clinch by Mirko. Cro Cop buckling Nelson with a couple of kicks. In round 3, Roy has another takedown denied, uppercut by Nelson connects as they disengage. Nelson gets a takedown in the final minute and worked him over with strikes to end the round. The judges gave the win to Crop Cop.

Cheick Kongo fought Vitaly Minakov in a heavyweight bout. In round 1, Minakov gets a little too over-eager and Kongo clips him. They clinch up and it’s a relative stalemate. Caught kick by Minakov puts Kongo to the mat. Kongo back to his feet having avoided a brief choke attempt. In round 2, a vicious leg kick by Kongo. Buckled Minakov for a split second. Minakov lands a right hand and Kongo responds. Very little action to the point that the commentators were making jokes about it. In round 3, Kongo’s next leg kick gets him taken down. Minakov in half-guard, throwing stay-busy strikes. Minakov trying to choke out Kongo but Kongo got out of it and got to his feet. Kongo landed some big strikes and unloaded with knee strikes to end the round. The judges gave the win to Kongo.

Yaroslav Amosov vs. Erick Silva met in a welterweight bout. In round 1, Amasov nails a knee to the body. He connects on a right cross a few seconds later. Amosov doesn’t get the takedown. They’re clinched up against the fence and they’ve separated. In round 2, Amosov throws a kick caught by Silva as he dumps Amosov on the mat momentarily. Amosov gets Silva down and he’s going to work. Controlling the action here with strikes and positioning before Silva gets to his feet and slammed again. Amosov with a few strikes from top position, working from half-guard. In round 3, Amosov pursues the takedown and eventually gets it after throwing a right hand and changing levels. Silva is back up, grabbing the fence, and Amosov in position to get him down again. Silva does well to scramble to a front headlock but he takes a body kick on the exit and they’re back to striking. Amosov got the decision win.

Opening the main card on DAZN is Valerie Loureda vs. Colby Fletcher in a women’s flyweight bout. In round 1, a fast start for both women. They’re wasting no time trading. Loureda throwing an array of kicks. Down goes Fletcher on a left hook and Loureda finished it up with strikes on the ground.

The featured bout of last night’s (Fri., Feb. 15, 2019) Bellator 215 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., ended in anticlimactic fashion. 15 seconds into the opening frame, Matt Mitrione kicked Sergei Kharitonov low to cause an end to the bout.

Mitrione apologized for stopping the fight early afterward. But his apology only goes so far, and Kharitonov is reportedly in serious pain. That goes without saying, yet the longtime veteran’s injuries extended far past the cage.

ESPN’s Ariel Helwani reported that Kharitonov had been discharged from the hospital last night. However, when he felt additional pain he was re-admitted:

Kharitonov underwent another round of tests. It was determined he had not suffered internal bleeding. But he did suffer a hemorrhoid as a result of the kick:

Ouch. Here’s hoping Kharitonov is feeling much better soon.

Bellator will hope to hope to rebound with a better main event when they roll on with tonight’s (Feb. 16, 2019) Bellator 216 from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. Rising star Michael Page will take on fellow Brit Paul Daley in a bad blood-centered grudge match in the main event.
