Former duel-weight UFC champion, Conor McGregor has fired his latest barb in the direction of the #6 ranked lightweight contender, Beneil Dariush, claiming that the surging division grappler is the “biggest nobody” in the organization at the moment, amid recent comments from the Iran-born force.

McGregor, who continues to slip down the official lightweight rankings amid his sidelining from active competition, currently sits at #8 in the official 155lbs pile – with his most recent Octagon outing come back in July at UFC 264.

Headlining the T-Mobile Arena event, McGregor suffered a fractured left tibia at the close of his opening round trilogy rubber match against Dustin Poirier, dropping his second consecutive loss to the Louisana native.

As for Dariush, the Kings MMA staple himself was forced from a high-profile title-eliminator back in February at UFC Vegas 49 – with a fractured fibula forcing him from a matchup against Islam Makhachev.

However, with the lay of the land at lightweight far from ideal at the time of publication following the stripping of former undisputed champion, Charles Oliveira at the beginning of this month, Dariush pointed criticizm in the direction of the Brazilian – who had pursued a vacant title fight against McGregor.

“He’s (Charles Oliveira) talking about wanting to fight Conor (McGregor), and he talks about how these guys never gave him a shot when he was outside the top five, blah, blah, blah,” Beneil Dariush told MMA Fighting. “… He was supposed to fight me, bailed, ran and fought Tony Ferguson. Now, instead of fighting actual contenders, he wants to go fight Conor? He wants to go fight Nate Diaz? This is hypocritical. This is the only thing that’s bothering me.”

Receiving the wrath of Crumlin native, McGregor in a now-deleted tweet, the latter claimed Dariush was the “biggest nobody” currently on the UFC’s books.

“Beneil Dardush (sic) (Beneil Dariush) is the biggest nobody in the company (UFC) (laughing face emoji),” Conor McGregor tweeted.

Replying to McGregor’s comments, UFC middleweight contender, Marvin Vettori – a training partner of Dariush at Kings MMA and a stablemate of the Iranian, sent a rather interesting message in the direction of the former two-weight champion.

Marvin Vettori issues scathing response to the outspoken, Conor McGregor

“What a b*tch @TheNotoriousMMA (Conor McGregor),” Marvin Vettori tweeted. “You couldn’t last 2 min with Beneil and that’s just a fact. You are scumbag, I hope to see you soon.”

Beneil Dariush has co-signed potential opponent Islam Makhachev’s belief on Charles Oliveira’s hypocrisy.

Dariush was recently interviewed on “The Fighter vs. The Writer,” discussing the current landscape of the lightweight division. During the interview, Dariush took aim at the now-former 155-pound champion Charles Oliveira.

Oliveira has been calling out names such as Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, rather than top contenders such as Dariush and Islam Makhachev. Dariush calls this hypocrisy on Oliveira’s part, especially given the Brazilian’s past grievances.

“He’s talking about wanting to fight Conor, and he talks about how these guys never gave him a shot when he was outside the top five, blah, blah, blah,” Dariush said.

“We were supposed to fight October of 2020. I have a fight contract, I can post a picture of it. I was supposed to fight Charles, and he pulled out of the fight, and then a couple months later, instead of fighting me, he fought Tony Ferguson.

“He said something about family issues and I’m not going to say, ‘Oh, he didn’t fight me, I can’t believe it.’ Family comes first, I understand that. But the same thing people did to him, he’s doing to me.

“He was supposed to fight me, bailed, ran and fought Tony Ferguson. Now, instead of fighting actual contenders, he wants to go fight Conor?

“He wants to go fight Nate Diaz? This is hypocritical. This is the only thing that’s bothering me.”

These comments echo those of Dariush’s possible next opponent Makhachev. The pair have been on a collision course given their respective dominant runs through the division as of late.

Dariush is currently on a seven-fight win streak at lightweight, currently the No. 6 ranked fighter in the division.

Makhachev is currently on a 10-fight win streak since suffering the first and only loss of his career in 2015.

Makhachev is the No. 4-ranked lightweight in the UFC and is potentially one victory away from facing Oliveira for the vacant title. However, some believe that Makhachev is already worthy of fighting for the title, so it is unclear what exactly is next for the Dagestani.

What do you make of Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev’s combined hypocrisy claims against Oliveira? Do you agree? Sound off in the comments!

It’s safe to say that UFC superstar Conor McGregor isn’t the biggest fan of lightweight contender Beneil Dariush.

McGregor is planning his return to the Octagon later this year after nearly a full year away from the UFC. He suffered a nasty leg injury at UFC 264 last year but seems to be on the comeback trail.

McGregor has had a recent habit of attacking some of his UFC colleagues and rivals, and Dariush seems to be his latest target of choice.

In a recent tweet, McGregor blasted Dariush in a seemingly unprovoked post.

“Beneil Dardush is the biggest nobody in the company,” McGregor said in a since-deleted tweet.

McGregor could be potentially responding to Dariush’s criticism of Charles Oliveira for calling out McGregor over a fight against another top contender. Oliveira has hinted at a possible matchup with McGregor for months as the Irish superstar nears a return.

Dariush has been on a roll in the UFC lightweight division, winning seven straight fights. He was supposed to face Islam Makhachev earlier this year before suffering a leg injury in camp.

McGregor and Dariush are two big names in the lightweight title picture, but McGregor doesn’t think Dariush is worthy of consideration for a potential shot at the belt.

Beneil Dariush Seconds Dana White’s Explanation Of Scale Tampering

Beneil Dariush explains his interpretation of the “scale drama” that went down at UFC 274.

The official weigh-ins for UFC 274 were filled with controversy. Lightweight champion Charles Oliveira came in heavy for his title defense against Justin Gaethje and was subsequently stripped of the title.

Many fighters came to Oliveira’s defense saying they believed the official scale was not accurate. Oliveira himself also felt the reading was wrong. Nonetheless, he is won the fight and the title is left vacant.

UFC President Dana White spoke following the vent about measures he is planning to take in order for the scale to be protected. He claimed that fighters and their team members come to use the official scale the night before and mess with the settings. He will now place security by the scale around the clock to prevent this.

One man who is in the title hunt at 155 pounds, Beneil Dariush, was asked about this theory of scale tampering by White and he shared his thoughts with ESPN.

“He wasn’t going to miss half a pound, he’s not trying to give up his purse,” Dariush explained. “So I’m sure he was on weight like he said he was, I believe him. And as far as people getting on that scale and sitting on that scale and changing the kilos to pounds, totally true, all the time people do it. I mean, I’ve seen it. I’ve been doing my practice and I’ve seen people sitting on our scales and things like that. So I’ve seen all that I see both sides.

Dariush is ranked sixth in the division and could be on the shortlist of opponents next to fight Oliveira. As a potential title contender, he was watching the events of the weigh-in unfold. He believes the UFC made the right choice in stripping Oliveira.

“And you know a lot of people say Charles shouldn’t have been stripped. Here’s the problem if you don’t strip Charles, you can’t give Gaethje the belt if Gaethje won,” he said. “That was the issue. The reason why they took the belt from Charles was because if we’re having a title fight, and the belt belongs to Charles, he didn’t make 155 so they’re not fighting for the 155 belt. So that’s why they did it the way they did it. I understand why UFC did what they did. I understand why Charles feels the way he does. Like it’s just a poop situation.”

Dariush is currently rehabbing a leg injury that removed him from his scheduled bout with Islam Makhachev back in February. His timeline for a return is not set but would ideally be late summer.

Do you think the scale at the UFC 274 weigh-ins was tampered with?

Beneil Dariush, Charles Oliveira

UFC lightweight Beneil Dariush has fired shots at Charles Oliveira for not taking a fight with him.

Having been on the sidelines since his last outing against Tony Ferguson last May, Dariush is swift in recovery from an ankle tear. Although he was expected to fight Islam Makhachev, talks of the showdown fizzled out after the sixth-ranked contender provided an update on his injury.

With Oliveira having to vacate his title, the matchmaking for UFC lightweight division has been turned on its head. Dana White had stated that Makhachev would need to dispatch Dariush to get a shot at the title but with no champ in place, things may change very quickly. Dariush was scheduled to take on Oliveira in October 2020 but it never happened as ‘do Bronx’ ended up facing Tony Ferguson in December of that year.

In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Beneil Dariush talked about Charles Oliveira missing weight, the state of the lightweight division in the UFC, and Islam Makhachev.

“I haven’t had any conversations with the UFC,” Dariush said. “In my mind, if I’m as good as I think I am, if I’m the best in the world, then everybody’s food. All these guys are just food. The only difference is the rotation, like who’s going to be first for me to eat. That’s basically how I look at it.”

“And so, that’s one of the reasons why I’m not like jumping on it, ‘ah, Charles has to give me this fight.’ I could clearly say, ‘hey buddy, you always talk about how the top five never gave you the fight. We were scheduled to fight, we were supposed to fight in October of 2020. You bailed on me and you said family issues. And then in December, you fought Tony Ferguson.

“What the heck, man? You’re being kind of a hypocrite’. If I really cared, that’s kinda how I would come at this. I’d be like, ‘dude, you’re being a hypocrite. You owe me a fight’.

“Pff, I don’t care. Just tell me who’s next and let’s get to work. That’s really how I feel right now. Just annoyed, mostly annoyed is the way I would put it.”

It seems like Beneil Dariush knows what he needs to do to get in a better position to challenge for the title. Although he’s expressed his disappointment with the Brazilian’s treatment, he is willing to wait for the match.

Beneil Dariush has provided an update on his current recovery progress, and his expectations for his Octagon return.

Dariush suffered an ankle injury during the training camp for his initially scheduled bout with Islam Makhachev at UFC Fight Night 202 in February. As a result, he was forced to withdraw from the bout.

Now, speaking to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Dariush has provided an update on his status. The 33-year-old says he’s feeling really good, but his ankle still has a bit of recovery left before he can fight anytime soon.

He was offered a fight in July, but given the current state of it, he doesn’t think it’s worth the risk.

“The fibula is actually really good,” Dariush said. “The leg is healed; the bone is fine. The issue I had, I have a little bit of now still, is a weakness in my ankle and also in my Achilles. That was something I was not expecting just because I jumped into PT right off the bat. I didn’t think that was going to be an issue.

“But, for example, right now if I do five rounds – whatever kind of training, whether it’s grappling or striking, somewhere around the third round it starts to get weak and chances of me rolling my ankle — or something stupid like that happening increase by a lot.

“It almost happened on Tuesday. So, that’s one of the reasons why I said no to July. Just because, man, I don’t want to go through a whole camp and be constantly stressed about my ankle.

“Is it going to make it through this camp, is it going to be strong enough? So we’re just spending all our time right now still focusing on strengthening moving forward and making sure we’re good to go. I think in a couple of weeks if I just keep focusing on it, it’ll be fine.”

There’s certainly no shortage of opponents for Dariush when he finally makes his return. Names such as Dustin Porier, Justin Gaethje, Islam Makhachev, Charles Oliveira, and more are waiting.

However, Dariush has a list of the men he’d like to step into the Octagon with once he’s fully healed, and Makhachev is at the top of that list.

“Well, here’s the thing – lets talk timing,” Dariush said. “If we’re talking about timing, if I can fight in August, whoever can show up in August.

“Ideally, Islam would be the best because I think he’s the best in the division. For me, fighting him is like fighting for the belt. You’re fighting for the UFC belt, if not him, it would be either Dustin Porier or Chandler. Those are the guys I’m thinking of. That’s how in my mind it goes.

“So, if I had to put an order in — it would go Charles, Islam, and then you could alternate Chandler and Poirier.”

What do you make of Beneil Dariush wanting to fight Islam Makhachev above all others? Who are you picking in the bout? Sound off in the comments!
