Jorge Masvidal punches Billy Evangelista at Strikeforce: Feijao vs. Henderson.Billy Evangelista is undefeated no more, as one of Strikeforce’s best prospects lost in disappointing fashion in his first appearance on a major Strikeforce card on Saturday night.

Fighting the much more experienced Jorge Masvidal, Evangelista turned in an unimpressive performance, losing a unanimous decision. All three judges scored it 30-27 for Masvidal, who improved his professional mixed martial arts record to 21-6. Evangelista falls to 11-1.

Strikeforce has officially announced its long-rumored March 5 event at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, adding a pair of intriguing bouts with championship implications.

As MMA Fighting first reported, that show will be headlined by a light-heavyweight championship main event pitting recently crowned Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante against challenger Dan Henderson.

That, however, will not be the only title match of the evening, as No. 1 contender Miesha Tate will finally get her shot at the belt when she faces champion Marloes Coenen in a women’s lightweight title fight.

Strikeforce has a lightweight champion, Gilbert Melendez, whose only fight in 2010 was a win over the lightweight champion of Dream, Shinya Aoki, and who keeps talking about his desire to fight the lightweight champion of Bellator, Eddie Alvarez. Strikeforce Challengers regulars Lavar Johnson and Billy Evangelista each took home $10,000 at this past Friday’s Strikeforce Challengers 11 in Fresno, Calif., according to purses reported by Strikeforce to the California athletic commission.

Johnson and Evangelista were not listed as recipients of win bonuses, but were both victorious; Johnson by first-round TKO and Evangelista by unanimous decision.

Bobby Voelker, who stopped Roger Bowling in the main event, earned $9,000, which includes a $4,500 win bonus.

Roger Bowling and Bobby Voelker‘s encounter at Strikeforce Challengers 8 in May ended anticlimactically and now the two welterweights are ready to clash again, this time in the main event of Strikeforce Challengers 11 on Oct. 22 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif.

Strikeforce announced Monday the rematch along with a 165-pound catchweight bout between Billy Evangelista and Waachiim Spiritwolf, and the inclusion of Lavar Johnson.
