Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold has taken aim at incoming opponent, Mike Perry ahead of their BKFC (Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship) 41 headliner next month – claiming the UFC alum is “so f*cking dumb” – as well as predicting a knockout win over the latter.

Rockhold, a former undisputed middleweight champion under the banner of the UFC and Strikeforce, most recently competed professionally on the main card of UFC 278 back in August of last year in Salt Lake City, Utah  – suffering a unanimous decision loss to Paulo Costa.

In the immediate aftermath of his loss, the Californian confirmed his decision to walk away from mixed martial arts, and retired from active competition with immediate effect.

However, late last month, BKFC founder, David Feldman confirmed that Rockhold had signed with the promotion, and would fight UFC welterweight veteran, Perry next month – atop a card that also features a lightweight fight between Chad Mendes, and former UFC lightweight champion, Eddie Alvarez.

Luke Rockhold slams Mike Perry in expletive-filled tirade ahead of BKFC clash

Criticizing the above-mentioned Flint native, Perry in a rather scathing message, Rockhold claimed that he would finish the latter in Broomfield, Colorado.

“I’m confident in my abilities to put this kid (Mike Perry) away,” Luke Rockhold told MMA Junkie ahead of BKFC 41. “I don’t think he understands the danger that’s coming and that’s the thing that works to his advantage, too. He doesn’t understand danger, he’s so f*cking dumb. It makes him effective, but also, I think it’s gonna lead me to an opening that I can f*cking put this kid away. I’m big and I hit hard. I don’t think you’re ready.”

“I’m not an 80-year-old man you can knock the f*ck out, you f*cking piece of sh*t,” Luke Rockhold explained. “I kind of forgot about that one, but I was reminded how pathetic you are. I’m gonna make you move pathetic come April 29.”

2-0 since his move to BKFC last year, Perry managed to debut with a decision win over The Ultimate Fighter veteran, Julian Lane, before defeating recent winner and one-time Bellator MMA welterweight title challenger, Michael Page in a main event slot in London last year.

Paul Craig recalls story of first meeting with UFC veteran, Mike Perry

Boasting a ground strikes TKO win over current undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jahamal Hill – claimed a chance encounter Perry is responsible for him painting his face with the Scotland national flag before UFC weigh-ins.

“He (Mike Perry) was in the gym, and he was there with – at the time his girlfriend, the blonde haired one,” Paul Craig told Morning Kombat during a recent interview. “And he was sparring with her, and I’m on the treadmill watching this guy, and I’m thinking, this guy is super intense. And he is pulling no punches against this chick. And his coach is watching, with his arms folded and he’s just watching, and he’s enjoying this. Just a battle of the sexes. And the men were definitely winning this.”

“…So Mike Perry then starts speaking to me, and he’s super nice,” Paul Craig continued. “And he’s like, ‘Are you Scottish?’ [And I say] ‘Aye’. ‘F*cking Braveheart? See, if I was you, I’d do the f*cking blue paint, man. And I’d – f*cking let’s go, Scotland.’ And I looked at my coach and I went, ‘That’s a f*cking brilliant idea’.”

2-0 since his transition to bare knuckle fighting, Perry has landed consecutive decision wins over The Ultimate Fighter alum, Julian Lane, as well as former Bellator MMA welterweight title challenger, Michael Page.

John Dodson, BKFC, UFC

John Dodson is using skills he learned in mixed martial arts and implementing them into bare knuckle boxing.

After a near two-decade MMA career, Dodson made his bare knuckle boxing debut in August 2022 at BKFC 28. He secured a first-round KO win over Ryan Benoit. Six months later, he finished Jarod Grant at BKFC KnuckleMania 3.

During an interview with Middle Easy, Dodson spoke about how he’s used his MMA mindset in bare knuckle.

“My regimen for bare knuckle is the same thing that I continuously do for MMA and I’m making sure that I can go ahead and have that transition and be pretty much seem less like all my training is there towards MMA and I’m making sure that I’m making the case so I can go ahead and do both. Bare knuckle has given me another platform to keep me active and stay busy, and making sure I can strike within those ranges… I’m just staying outside of kicking range all the time.”

“I’m not worried about the whole general mindset and mentality of being me and kicking and takedown, Jiu-Jitsu like that makes MMA such a different type of animal but bare knuckle still has same parameters of a striking round… it’s the same type of ideals. I have to use the same type of angles, same type of footworks and same type of in and out motions that I always have done for so many years… This world of bare knuckles is about being touched. It’s about touching them and not being touched at all and I can continue to hit them as many times in different variations of different angles because the fact that they haven’t figured it out just yet that this is not boxing and it’s not MMA, it’s its own animal, we have to make sure that we can be pretty much like fencers to be able to strike a point at the opponent.” (h/t Middle Easy)

John Dodson Has Had Success in MMA

Dodson has had a successful bare knuckle boxing career so far. The Albuquerque native is a former UFC flyweight and bantamweight. He won “The Ultimate Fighter 14” in December 2011. The TKO win over T.J. Dillashaw earned him knockout of the night honors. He would go on to fight in the UFC for nine years, competing in two weight divisions. He has notable wins over Nathanial Wood, Pedro Munhoz, Eddie Wineland and Tim Elliot.

Despite a move to bare knuckle boxing, Dodson is still a mixed martial artist. “The Magician” last fought in MMA in December 2022. He secured a first-round KO win over Hideo Tokoro at Rizin 40.
