Sean O'Malley Bobby Green

UFC bantamweight contender Sean O’Malley is a rising star in the promotion, and as his stock rises, so do the number of enemies he’ll make along the way, including UFC lightweight Bobby Green.

O’Malley is fresh off his largely dominant performance against short-notice replacement Kris Moutinho, earning the unanimous decision win at UFC 264. O’Malley has been on fire since his devastating loss to Marlon Vera earlier in his career, and has now won back-to-back outings and is moving up the bantamweight division. However, it appears that Green is not a fan of O’Malley, stemming from a recent back-and-forth between the two on social media.

O’Malley gave an insight as to what happened during a recent appearance on the “Timbo Sugar Show”.

“I think initially, he commentated on the UFC that they were giving me easy fights,” O’Malley said. “He was talking shit and I commented: ‘Get fifty thousand followers’ And then he messaged me and said ‘I’m coming for you… ‘He’s lucky he didn’t see me in six or he would have slapped us or something. So, that’s cool. Like dude, why can’t we be friends.”

O’Malley and Green will more than likely never meet in the UFC octagon, as there’s a 20-pound difference between the two when they enter their fights. But, the beef between the two appears to be heading towards a climax.

Green recently fell to Rafael Fiziev at UFC 265 by unanimous decision but engaged in a great fight with one of the promotion’s brightest prospects.

Green isn’t the only one that has had beef with O’Malley. Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has had his fair share of things to say about the “Suga Show”, along with former champion Petr Yan.

It’ll be interesting to see if the two run into each other at any upcoming UFC events; because if their recent back-and-forth is any indication, it probably won’t be a respectful meetup.

The controversial judge that awarded Rafael Fiziev a clean sweep on the scorecards in his UFC 265 bout with Bobby Green has explained his reasoning behind giving Fiziev the third round, despite Green upending Fiziev in the round’s striking statistics.

JJ Ferraro is a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation judge who was criticized by the MMA community and the UFC 265 broadcast team after it was revealed that Fiziev earned a 30-27 scorecard, while the other two (Chris Lee and Sal D’Amato) each gave Fiziev two of the three rounds. Fiziev still went on to win the fight, but the scoring adds another chapter to unusual scoring by MMA judges across all promotions over the past few years.

Green surged in the third round and had Fiziev in deep waters late in the fight, which made many around the MMA community expect that he won the round fairly easily despite being clearly behind in the fight to Fiziev. Ferraro, in a rare move, explained the reasoning for giving Fiziev the third round despite Green forcing the action and landing the most strikes total in the last five minutes.

“Strikes that are deemed most effective are strikes that have the potential to end the fight,” Ferraro said in a lengthy Twitter statement. “Those are the strikes that hold more weight than any other strikes. It doesn’t matter if they are punches, kicks, elbows, you name it, we have to assess who is trying to end the fight with their weapons.”

“It happens all the time in MMA. Round 3 could have gone either way. One of the other judges told me immediately after the fight that he could see my score as well and was not surprised or shocked at all when I went to Fizev 10-9.”

Ferraro went on to specifically target the broadcast team of Daniel Cormier, Jon Anik, and former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz for alleged bias commentary during and following the bout. The broadcast team had its fair share of criticism for the judges throughout the evening, especially following the Fiziev vs. Green bout.

The remaining bouts on UFC 265 will do well to beat out both Bobby Green and Rafael Fiziev for Fight of the Night honours tonight in Houston, Texas — with the latter narrowly edging out the former with a close unanimous decision in tonight’s featured preliminary bout.

The majority of onlookers expected fireworks between the veteran division mainstay, Green and the streaking striking standout, Fiziev — and the pair duly delivered.

From the opening and numerous exchanges, Green and Fiziev looked to roll and counter each other, leading to some wild exchanges in the pocket — both with their hands and feet as well as their verbals with the pair exchanging on occasion.

Narrowly besting the veteran Californian, Tiger Muay Thai kickboxing ace, Fiziev takes home his fourth consecutive victory and fourth since his move to the UFC back in April of 2019.

Below, catch some of the numerous striking exchanges between Green and Fiziev in tonight’s barn burning lightweight scrap.

UFC 258 fight week was a forgettable one for lightweight veteran Jim Miller.

Miller was set to take on Bobby Green at the pay-per-view event which took place last month. However, the fight was called off after Green fainted during the weigh-ins the day before the event.

For Miller, that was a huge blow as he took the fight on short notice and made weight — even if it was a better cut than previous occasions.

“The hurdle is making weight and it sucks that is the way the sport is. I would fight every weekend if I didn’t have to cut weight,” Miller told BJPenn.com. “The fight not going on after I made the weight, and I had it on short notice, too sucked. I had a decent cut as well. If you aren’t going to fight you might as well have a shitty cut so you don’t have to fight in that state.

“At the same time, it’s not like I suffered because it was a pretty easy cut. It sucks. I don’t want my opponents to get sick or hurt before the fight.”

That wasn’t the only blow for Miller. Another blow was the fact that he was barely compensated for his troubles.

“They gave me a percentage,” Miller added. “A fraction. You waste a week out in Las Vegas basically stuck in your hotel room and it’s like I made a couple thousand dollars for it. It sucks.”

However, the UFC did promise to rebook him soon and that was the case as he is set to face Joe Solecki on April 10. That said, it’s not a good look for the UFC to not compensate him properly for the Green fight.

Then again, the UFC has never received praise for properly compensating its fighters either.
