Veteran lightweight staple, Bobby Green has likely landed within the lightweight top-15 once more — years on since his last time in the rankings, handing the hugely-talented, Grant Dawson with a stunning first round knockout loss inside the Octagon — with just 33 seconds lasped on the clock in their UFC Vegas 80 headliner tonight.
Green, who made just his second main event appearance under the banner of the UFC, entered tonight’s headlining clash with wrestling talent, Dawson off the back of a third round arm-triangle submission win over former interim champion, Tony Ferguson.
And turning in a shocking upset victory tonight in the main event of UFC Vegas 80 — San Bernardino native, Bobby Green dropped Dawson with a perfectly-timed and placed straight left hand strike, before following up with a slew of ground strikes, forcing referee, Keith Peterson to call a halt to the action inside just 33 seconds of the opening round at UFC Vegas 80.
Electing against calling for a certain opponent following his win over American Top Team staple, Dawson, Green instead called to feature on a card of some form in December, hoping to continue his vein of busy activity before the end of the year.

On Saturday night, Green makes his return to the Octagon for a main event clash with No. 10 ranked contender Grant Dawson. Ahead of their highly anticipated scrap inside The APEX in Las Vegas, Green made an appearance on the JAXXON podcast where he claims to have dog-walked 185-pound champ Sean Strickland on more than one occasion whilst sparring.
“Shout out to Strickland. A little backstory, my dad, I got a little white dad, he’s a black belt. He got his black belt from Sean’s coach,” Green said. “So, out of respect, because Sean was trying to have his MMA career go, we must have been 21, 22, he would call me to go over and spar with Sean. Sean was fighting at 185, I’m a 155’er. But, I would beat the dog sh*t out of him. Ask him to this day, he’ll say Bobby Green is a problem.”

Bobby Green Looks to Break into the Lightweight Top 10 at UFC Vegas 80
After going 2-3 in his previous five, Bobby Green scored an impressive buzzer-beating submission against former interim lightweight world champion Tony Ferguson in his last outing. Should ‘King’ deliver an impressive showing and earn his second-straight victory at UFC Vegas 80, he could find himself thrust into the lightweight division’s top 10.
Meanwhile, middleweight champ Sean Strickland is back in the gym preparing for his first title defense after delivering a picture-perfect performance against former two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 last month. No official announcements have been made, but welterweight contender Belal Muhammad previously claimed that he was offered a championship clash with Strickland.
‘Tarzan’ could also find himself once again matched up with Israel Adesanya, or the man many believe is next in line, Dricus Du Plessis.
Who would you like to see Strickland square off against in his first UFC title defense?

Slated to headline UFC Vegas 80 this weekend ahead of a blockbuster UFC 294 card next week in Abu Dhabi, UAE, lightweight staple, Bobby Green is picking former-foe, Islam Makhachev to defend his title successfully in the Middle East – for the sole reason that according to him “Russians be cheating” under the promotional banner.
Green, a former opponent of recently crowned undisputed lightweight champion, Makhachev, makes his return to the Octagon this weekend atop UFC Vegas 80, taking on the streaking American Top Team product, Grant Dawson over the course of five rounds.
And dropping a first round TKO loss to Makhachev back in February of last year, Green made some outlandish claims regarding the power and ability of the former, bordering on claims of malpractice and nefarious doping.
“I found this little video and it said Islam had a little trouble with drugs, but I don’t see people talking about him,” Bobby Green said. “He was saying that when he first came over that his school that he trained at in Russia, they just gave him vitamins. They’d been doing this since who knows when – when you start training.”
“Imagine if you give someone steroids from the age of 10, 12, 13, 14, 15 – how strong you would be,” Bobby Green continued. “People are like, ‘He was really strong.’ It makes sense now. There’s two people that I’ve moved around with and I was like, that’s interesting. I’ve moved with thousands of guys, that was interesting. I told my coach, ‘There’s something interesting about Islam.’ I felt it. That’s just not human. It makes sense.”
Bobby Green claims Russian fighters under the UFC are “cheating”
And appearing to double down on those accusations ahead of his return this weekend, Green claimed that as a whole – Russian fighters under the banner of the UFC are cheating and have been cheating for some time.
“I’m gonna go with Islam (Makhachev) [to beat Charles Oliveira] and the only reason I’ll say that is – you should be on the motherf*cker,” Bobby Green said on the Jaxxon Podcast. “You should see behind the scenes. Why do they [the UFC] keeping sending ‘em over to Abu Dhabi, you know what I mean?”
“The Russian be cheating right now,” Bobby Green explained. “No disrespect to none of the Russian people if you my fans. I f*ck with you, but I be seeing some funny sh*t that I’m like, ‘Oh.’ Because I know people all around and in different sections and stuff. For instance, Khabib (Nurmagomedov) and Islam and them, they go to a mosque. They train in some place where you can’t be – USADA can’t go, you can’t come in here. For months they can do whatever they wanna do.”
What are your thoughts on Bobby Green’s bold claims this week?

UFC 291 saw ‘El Cucuy’ suffer his sixth-straight loss inside the Octagon, dropping a third-round submission to Bobby Green in the waning seconds of their scrap in Salt Lake City. Speaking with ESPN’s Brett Okamoto, Tony Ferguson revealed that the loss came only after he had attempted to bust out a new move that ended up backfiring on him.
“I put myself underneath him when I shouldn’t have, didn’t take his ground and pound serious when I was doing it. I was hitting a new move, it wasn’t an iminari. Everybody’s like ‘Oh, he’s not as fast.’ Nah, I was trying to do a different one. I call it ‘The Boogeyman’. I’ll just explain it right now, I shoot underneath the guy’s legs and then I end up taking his back from underneath the bottom position and I didn’t do that” (h/t MMA News).
Even if Tony Ferguson had survived the final seconds of the third round, he still would have left the Delta Center with another loss as the scorecards revealed he was already down on two out of three going into the final five minutes.
Tony Ferguson Claims Multiple Eye Pokes Compromised Him Against Bobby Green
‘El Cucuy’ has also blamed his latest loss on what he believes to have been an intentional eye poke from Bobby Green. Ferguson echoed similar sentiments during his conversation with Okamoto, saying:
“Before that, I kept getting poked in the eye which was kind of sh*t. I mean it f*cking hurt and the doctor kept getting in the way. I’m sitting here tryna get my composure back and I’m looking at Bobby. I’m looking at him in the face so that way I can see his breathing and the more time I took, the more composed that he started getting.
It was kind of like a lose-lose situation where it’s like okay cool but I’m not gonna take a no contest, that never even phased my mind like ‘Get the f*ck outta her doc, we got some work to do.’
Many fight fans expected Tony Ferguson to hang up his gloves following the loss to Green. Instead, ‘El Cucuy‘ will step back inside the Octagon for the promotion’s final pay-per-view of the year, UFC 296. On that night, Ferguson is scheduled for a showdown with fast-rising UK standout Paddy Pimblett, a fight that has drawn the ire of many fight fans.
If Ferguson takes another L, as many suspect he will, the ex-interim champ will tie BJ Penn’s record for the most consecutive losses in UFC history.

Sean O’Malley isn’t ready to close the book on Tony Ferguson’s mixed martial arts career just yet.
El Cucuy‘ hasn’t seen his hand raised since a 2019 TKO against UFC Hall of Famer Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone. Over the last four years, Ferguson has fallen six straight times, including a third-round submission defeat at the hands of Bobby Green at UFC 291. He is now one loss shy of the record currently held by avid dinosaur denier BJ Penn.
At this point, even Tony Ferguson’s most loyal fans are calling for the former interim champion to call it quits, but there is one man that wants to see him give it one more go before throwing in the towel on his 15-year career.
“Tony Ferguson is on a six-fight losing streak,” O’Malley said during a recent episode of the TimboSugarShow on YouTube. “Tony was eating them until he was sleeping on them… I say give him one more. Yeah, for sure. I don’t want to count him out… Listen to who he lost to; [Justin] Gaethje, Charles Oliveira, Beneil Dariush, Michael Chandler, Nate Diaz, Bobby Green. He’s not losing to f*cking turds.”
Tony Ferguson Accused Bobby Green of Intentional Eye Poke
To O’Malley’s point, Tony Ferguson has faced a veritable who’s who of combat sports killers. Perhaps it’s time for ‘El Cucuy’ to mix it up with some up-and-comers in the sport. A win or two outside of the top ten could do wonders for Ferguson’s confidence inside the cage. And even if he comes up short, you’re left with a couple of young guns that have a notable name on their hit list.
Unfortunately, Ferguson was less than graceful following his latest defeat.
During his bout with Bobby Green on Saturday night, Tony Ferguson suffered an eye poke early on. It’s an occurrence that sadly happens from time to time in mixed martial arts, but ‘El Cucuy’ was quick to suggest that the infraction was deliberate following the bout.
“Bobby knew the direction of the fight & I believe he knew what he was doing when he poked my eye. He has a big History of moves like this. It significantly impaired my vision, making it difficult to see clearly out of my eye,” Ferguson wrote on social media.
Green addressed the accusations during a recent appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, which you can see below:
Bobby Green says he feels "sad" that Tony Ferguson and others believe he poked Ferguson's eye intentionally at UFC 291 #TheMMAHour
"If you argue with a crazy man, then you’re probably crazy. I’m not going to argue with him.”
Do you believe Bobby Green intentionally poked Tony Ferguson in the eye or is this nothing more than ‘El Cucuy’ making excuses after another tough loss inside the Octagon?

Turning in his first submission win since an Octagon debut back in 2013, lightweight veteran, Bobby Green managed to prevent the judge’s involvement in tonight’s UFC 291 main card clash with former interim gold holder, Tony Ferguson — submitting the Calfornian veteran with a late third round arm-triangle submission.
Green, who entered tonight’s clash with future Hall of Fame inductee, Ferguson off the back of a three-fight winless run, managed to bloody and bruise the veteran fan-favorite throughout the three rounds of their main card clash in Salt Lake City.
And late in the third round, cruising en route to a likely one-sided unanimous decision win over Oxnard native, Ferguson, Green managed to capitalize during a rolling scramble from Ferguson — moving from full-guard to side control, to wrap up an arm-triangle win over Ferguson — with the former interim champion electing against tapping, forcing a technical submission loss.
As for Ferguson, the perennial division contender and Ultimate Fighter victor suffers his sixth consecutive loss, having previously rode a division-best 12-fight winning run through the lightweight ranks en route to an interim title win.
