Brett Rogers pled guilty to third-degree assault on Thursday in connection with a domestic violence incident involving his wife, and as a result had three other charges dropped.

Rogers will not be sentenced until Nov. 30, and in the mean time he will face Eddie Sanchez on the Sept. 23 Titan Fighting Championships card, as scheduled.

Rogers’ attorney, Murad Mohammed, told Apple Valley Patch that he believes there is a good chance Rogers will escape any jail time.

“Overall, Brett and I are pleased with the outcome,” Mohammed said. “I think it’s important for everyone, especially Brett’s wife and family, to know that Brett has taken ownership for everything that’s happened. It’s an unfortunate situation for the family and the end result is Brett not having a felony conviction resulting in him returning to his family and continuing to fight.”

In June, shortly after Rogers lost to Josh Barnett in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix, witnesses said they saw Rogers strike his wife, and he was arrested. Zuffa, the parent company of Strikeforce and the UFC, immediately released Rogers. He and his wife later appeared together in a television interview and said they were reconciled.

Rogers has been in several high-profile MMA fights, including a first-round knockout of Jon Murphy in the first MMA fight ever to be broadcast on network television and a first-round knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski. He had lost consecutive Strikeforce fights to Fedor Emelianenko, Alistair Overeem and Barnett at the time he was released by the promotion.

Brett Rogers Will Be In Court Today to Try to Prove That His Wife, Neighbor and Kids Are All Lying About Him Being a Piece of Sh*t

(If you didn’t hit her, explain what happened to her eyebrows then, smart guy.)

Brett Rogers will appear in Dakota County District court today in Minnesota where he will attempt to explain to the jury in the case that everyone who saw him drunkenly beating the shit out of his wife is full of BS.

You may recall that “The Grim” was picked up at his Apple Valley home and charged with multiple domestic assault-related  felonies back in July after a neighbor called police after witnessing the heavy-handed former Strikeforce heavyweight using his wife’s face as a focus mitt.

According to the police report, the witness stated that he looked out his window and saw Rogers standing over top of his wife in their backyard punching her in the head repeatedly. After the attack, the neighbor says he saw the victim get up and that she was bleeding and missing a tooth. Rogers nine and 10-year-old daughters told another neightbor and officers who attended the scene that they witnessed the assault, which they said wasn’t a one-time occurrence, and their account of the attack matched the other witness’. When officers located Mrs. Rogers a short time later she denied the attack at first, but soon admitted what had happened.

Here is the account that she gave officers while being transported to a local hospital:

“Tiuana Rogers advised that she and her husband had been arguing that night. He became angry and grabbed her with both hands around her neck and squeezed. She was able to get away and went into the back yard. Her husband followed her and got her on the ground and began hitting her about her head and face, causing her to “black out.” By the time she arrived at the hospital, her ear had swollen and had a “cauliflower ear” look. Mrs. Rogers stated she did not want her husband charged with assault because she did not want to cause him trouble with his job.”

The report went on to state that Rogers’ daughters told the neighbor who was looking after them while their mother was in the hospital and their father was in jail that they were afraid to go home and that he had choked them too in the past. The day after the incident the investigating officer contacted the victim to meet with her to take photos of her injuries and was told that she would not comply with the request and that the assault was all her fault.

Rogers denied addressed the charges with a straight face a la Ike Turner during a recent episode of Inside MMA, referring to the altercation as a “misunderstanding” that was blown out of proportion by the media.

Does Tiuana look scared to talk to anyone else?

Here’s the transcription of the interview (courtesy of Fight Opinion):

MURAD MOHAMMAD (ATTORNEY): “He’s facing a 3rd degree assault charge. He’s facing a terroristic threats charge, as well as a harassment and stalking charge. These allegations are serious allegations and we take them very seriously but we’re looking forward to addressing them in court.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I was told not to go into details.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “We’d just rather move forward and be positive.”

BRETT ROGERS: “The situation that occurred, it happened and it was more of a misunderstanding when I look at it. The papers can write whatever but we still going through the legal process.”

RON KRUCK: “Has there ever been a violence between you two?”

BRETT ROGERS: “Never. Our records are clean.”

*Editor’s note: Translation – She’s never told on me yet.

RON KRUCK: “After six years of marriage and three children together, Brett & Tiuana are committed to working together through their problems.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I’m confident that things are going to dropped, squared away and then we can move forward like we said. We’re a married couple, we have our ups and down just like everyone else.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “He’s a family man and a lot of people don’t see that with MMA fighters. They’re so quick to judge.”

MURAD MOHAMMAD (ATTORNEY): “The State is going to have some significant proof issues. The alleged victim is Brett’s wife and this is a family that’s been together for a long time, they love each other, and Miss Rogers at this point appears not willing to testify against Brett.”

*Editor’s note: If Tiuana changes her story, she can be charged with perjury. If she chooses not to testify, the testimony of officers on the scene whom she admitted the assault to and witnesses can be used as evidence.

RON KRUCK: “Looking to put their legal issues behind them, the Rogers are focusing on the future.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I want to get back in there and fight and move forward from all the BS that’s been going on in my life.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “We just enjoy being around each other and we just going to continue loving each other, loving our family, and just focus on moving forward and being positive.”

BRETT ROGERS: “You know, it’s just a lesson learned. Life is a roller coaster and it’s definitely a lesson learned.”

Seriously, Brett? Nobody is going to buy that bullshit. Be a man for once and admit you fucked up and quit trying to make excuses for your behavior.

Rogers’ trial was set for Tuesday of this week, but a scheduling conflict with his attorney led to a warrant mistakenly being issued for his arrest for not attending court. The warrant was puled when Rogers’ lawyer contacted the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department to clear up the misunderstanding.

We’ll have more as the story develops today.

It’s been a long two months for former Strikeforce heavyweight Brett “The Grim” Rogers, but he declares he’s ready to return and put the past behind him, which includes an assault charge that occurred in June.

The victim was Rogers’ wife, Tiuana.

HDNet’s Ron Kruk recently caught up with him for the first time since his arrest. Rogers was charged with third-degree assault, stalking and child endangerment.

Despite having a trial on September 13, the 265-pound heavyweight is scheduled to face UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez on September 24 for the Titan Fighting Championship, which takes place at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kan.

It’s all part of the fighter preparing to move forward while letting go of the past.

“I was told not to go into details,” said Brett, who has been with his wife, Tiuana, for six years. “The papers can write whatever, but it’s more of a misunderstanding when I look at it. We’re still going through the legal process. Our records are clean. I’m confident things are going to be dropped and we can move forward.”

Brett’s lawyer, Murad Mohammad, is confident he will be allowed to compete in his upcoming bout, which will be televised on HDNet.

“The alleged victim is Brett’s wife,” said Mohammad. “And this is a family that’s been together for a long time. They love each other. And Mrs. Rogers, at this point, appears not to be willing to testify against Brett.”

Brett Rogers Speaks Out on Arrest and Announces His Next Bout

(Video courtesy of Zombie Prophet)

Two months after his arrest following a domestic disturbance in his home, Brett Rogers is ready to face the public. On last night’s episode of Inside MMA, “The Grim” sat down with Ron Kruck to discuss the case and announce his upcoming bout. Rogers will step into a Dakota County District Court on September 13th to face felony charges of third degree assault, terroristic threats, and harassment and stalking. The now-happy couple seems ready to move on with their lives.

Brett Rogers: “I was told not to go in to details. The situation that occurred, it happened, and it was more of a misunderstanding when I look at it. The papers can write whatever [ed. note: Awesome! Thanks, Brett]. But we still are going through the legal process.”

Tiuana Rogers: “We’d just rather move forward and be positive.”

In keeping with the ‘staying positive’ them, Rogers’ attorney likes their chances as they head into court.

Two months after his arrest following a domestic disturbance in his home, Brett Rogers is ready to face the public. On last night’s episode of Inside MMA, “The Grim” sat down with Ron Kruck to discuss the case and announce his upcoming bout.

In keeping with the ‘staying positive’ them, Rogers’ attorney likes their chances as they head into court:

“The state is going to have some significant proof issues. The alleged victim is Brett’s wife. And this is a family that has been together for a long time. They love each other, and Mrs. Rogers at this point, appears not to be willing to testify against Brett.”

While they may not have the benefit of Tiuana Rogers taking the stand, prosecutors do have other witnesses to the crime. From the criminal complaint:

A neighbor reported that he had looked out his residence window and saw Rogers standing over T.R. [Brett’s wife] and punching her multiple times in the head and face as she lay on the ground. Another neighbor stated he saw T.R. with blood streaming from her face and mouth and what looked like a missing tooth.

At the time of the incident, “The Grim” admitted that he had been drinking and told police that his wife had struck him first, and that he’d merely responded in kind. Mrs. Rogers may be unwilling to testify now, but she did speak with authorities on the evening of the alleged assault:

T.R. advised that she and her husband had been arguing that night. He became angry and grabbed her with both hands around her neck and squeezed. She was able to get away and went into the back yard. Her husband followed her and got her on the ground and began hitting her about her head and face, causing her to “black out.”

At the time, Tiuana made it clear that she did not want to file charges as she feared it would have a negative effect on her husband’s employement. She was right. But the Rogers family is looking to move on with their lives, and Brett has already signed on with another organization. His next bout will go down on September 24th under the Titan FC banner. His opponent at Titan Fighting Championships 20 will be former UFC heavyweight Eddie Sanchez. After dropping three of his last four fights to the murderer’s row of Fedor-Alistair-Barnett, a fight against a journeyman like Sanchez sounds about right. Also featured on the card will be a headline bout between Jamie Varner and Alonzo Martinez. The event will be broadcast live on HDNet.

With his trial date set just eleven days prior to the bout, it looks like everyone here is banking that Brett will be found innocent, have an extremely short sentence, or simply not be carted off directly to jail should he be convicted of any of the felony charges facing him.

Brett Rogers Arrested for Assaulting Wife, Cut From Strikeforce, & Apparently Not a Chris Rock Fan

Dana White announced that Brett Rogers has been released from Strikeforce following his arrest Wednesday night. As reported by Fox 9: Brett Charles Rogers, 30, has been charged with assault in the third degree, domestic.

Dana White announced that Brett Rogers has been released from Strikeforce following his arrest Wednesday night. As reported by Fox 9:

Brett Charles Rogers, 30, has been charged with assault in the third degree, domestic assault by strangulation and pattern of stalking conduct — all felonies –in Dakota County. He was also charged with endangerment of a child, a gross misdameanor.

His wife blacked out from being choked, suffered a golf ball sized wound on her face among smaller wounds. The couples daughter had tried to intervene after she saw Rogers strike her mother.

Rogers admits he had been drinking before an argument broke out with he and his wife. He claims she punched him and he returned force.

So she punched first and he “returned force”… Are you f*cking kidding me? He’s a 260 pound Mixed Martial Arts fighter! And his wife isn’t Josh Barnett, though I hope there is a Barnett doppelganger waiting to be his domestic partner in his prison cell. Look, I don’t like to be biased but if there is evidence of physical abuse AND in front of children, then justice should be served in the form of a huge scary dude making Rogers his prison bitch. That’s all I’m saying.

I don’t care if she threw the first punch. What’s wrong with this guy? Has he never seen Chris Rock? You never ever hit a woman! There is never ever a reason to hit a woman… But you can shake the shit out of her.
