Wang Cong Delivers Dominant Performance Against Bruna Brasil - UFC 312 Highlights

Wang Cong climbed back into the win column with an impressive performance against Brazilian scrapper Bruna Brasil at UFC 312 on Saturday night.

The story of the opening round was the punishing kicks of Bruna Brasil that left Wang’s lead leg battered and bruised at the end of the first five minutes. Despite that, it was pretty much all Wang in the second round who practically chased down the Brazilian and laid it on her with an assortment of shots to the head and body.

Going into the third round, Wang has grown to a massive -2800 favorite according to the live odds.

Wang continued to dominate things in the third round, controlling the Octagon and stifling Brasil’s offense every step of the way. With the clock winding down, Brasil threw a hail mary spinning back fist, but that only allowed Wang to secure a late-round takedown and right out the remainder of the fight on the canvas.

After battling it out on the streets of Gotham for 85 years, Batman and The Joker will go toe-to-toe inside the Octagon at UFC 312.

Ahead of their clash this Saturday inside the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia, flyweight standouts Wang Cong and Bruno Brasil engaged in one of the best staredowns in recent memory during the ceremonial weigh-ins during the early morning hours of Friday. In the clip, which you can see below, Cong dawned the makeup of the famous Batman villain The Joker while Brasil wore a mask depicting The Dark Knight.

The moment even got a smile out of UFC CEO Dana White who was front and center to oversee the face-off.

Wang Cong looks to bounce back after coming up short at UFC Macaw

Wang Cong made her UFC debut riding a significant amount of hype, much of it backed by her 2015 victory over current flyweight queen Valentina Shevchenko under the Kunlun Fight banner. A 62-second knockout of Victoria Leonardo in August had everyone talking about Wang like she was the second coming of Alex Pereira.

Unfortunately, her hype train was halted just a few months later after succumbing to a rear-naked choke in the second round of her scrap against Gabriella Fernandes in November.

Now, she’ll look to bounce back against Brasil, a Brazilian scrapper who has alternated wins and losses in her last four fights.

Brasil has earned victories over Irish fan favorites Shauna Bannon and Molly McCann, but interwoven losses against Denise Gomes and Loma Lookboonmee have prevented her from making any headway at 125.

Strawweight contender, Bruna Brasil has turned in career victory number ten tonight on the preliminary card of UFC 304, defeating Molly McCann over the course of three rounds in the pairing in Manchester.

Brasil, who dropped a decision loss to Loma Lookboonmee back in February of this year, turned in some real impressive striking in the opening round of tonight’s matchup with Liverpool native, McCann — in the form of nasty body work.

Landing knees to the midsection on cue throughout the opening round, Brasil forced McCann to the Octagon canvas on numerous occasions as a result with strikes, ripping the body with successive knee strikes whenever the former closed the distance.

In the second and third frames to boot, the pair spent some considerable time on the canvas of the Octagon — with grappling exchanges and scrambling setups aplenty throughout.

UFC strawweight Molly McCann acknowledged the impact of Bruna Brasil’s early body work in her first statement on this past weekend’s defeat.

McCann was among the home fighters in action at the UFC 304 pay-per-view event, held inside the newly built Co-op Live arena in Manchester, England, in the early hours of Sunday morning local time.

“Meatball” made the walk on the preliminary card in pursuit of her second straight win since moving down to 115 pounds this year. But like her final flyweight outing on UK soil last July, the Liverpool native was unable to replicate her 2022 knockouts in London.

Opposite kickboxing specialist Bruna Brasil, McCann found herself folding to a pair of brutal body shots in the opening round, the first of which came from a perfectly timed knee to the midsection.

In her reflection on the unanimous decision setback, the defeated McCann noted the importance that knee had on the rest of the fight…

McCann On UFC 304 Loss: ‘Few Broken Bones…’

McCann took to social media on Sunday to give her first public reaction to the defeat close to home.

Alongside a picture showing her interaction with Brasil and her team at the fighter hotel following UFC 304, “Meatball” praised her victorious opponent on the triumph in enemy territory.

And in terms of her own performance, McCann suggested she was never able to fully recover from the knee that appeared close to finishing the fight early on.

“Last night was Bruna’s night! Massive congratulations to her. I wasn’t able to recover after that knee the firm,” McCann wrote. “Few broken bones and some heavy bruises, Shit night in the office for me but it is what it is. Hope you all enjoyed a great night of fights. Thank you to all UFC/ UFC PI staff for the care and love. We live to fight another day. I’m gonna be taking a bit of time off for me mental and physical state. Much love the firm!

The result stalls the strawweight momentum McCann gained with a career-best display opposite Diana Belbi?? at the Apex this past February.

Brasil, meanwhile, has bounced back from a disappointing decision defeat to Loma Lookboonmee earlier this year. The win also marks victories in back-to-back years in England for “The Special One,” who previously got the better of Shauna Bannon in the country’s capital last July.

Molly McCann suffered the first defeat of any of the home fighters at UFC 304 as she lost a one-sided decision to Bruna Brasil.

McCann’s signature toughness was on full display once again as she battled through a tough opening round to make it the distance.

Brasil had a lot of success with her striking after hurting her opponent with a body kick in the opening round, that appeared to be the beginning of the end.
