Chris Weidman’s light heavyweight debut could be upon us soon.

The former middleweight champion recently announced he’d be making the move up to 205 following a run of four losses in his last five fights. And according to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, a fight with Dominick Reyes is in the works for October 19 in Boston. He adds that nothing is finalized yet, however, as there are a couple of hurdles remaining before booking it.

Reyes, who is undefeated, has a claim to be the next challenger for Jon Jones, who Helwani adds wants to return on December 14 for the UFC end-of-year pay-per-view. However, given the latest developments, there are new pending legal issues to deal with. In addition, Corey Anderson seems to be in the running, but it’s still all in the preliminary phase.

For his part, “The Devastator” is fine with having to go through Weidman to prove he should face Jones next:

Does Weidman vs. Reyes excite you? Who takes it?

Now that both Chris Weidman and Luke Rockhold have jumped up to light heavyweight, a rematch between the pair at the weight class could be on the horizon.

Rockhold handed Weidman the first loss of his professional mixed martial arts (MMA) career in 2015. In the process, he also took “The All American’s” UFC middleweight title. Now, four years later, both men have found themselves jumping up to 205 pounds.

Speaking to TMZ Sports recently, Weidman was asked about his new weight class, and possibly meeting Rockhold in a rematch down the line. Weidman confirmed that’s something that’s definitely on his agenda:

“Oh yeah, I think that’s definitely on the agenda as well,” Weidman said. “I don’t know if that’ll be my first fight or not, but I think your first loss definitely hurts the most. To have the opportunity to get that one back, it’s definitely something I want to do.”

Weidman has yet to receive an opponent for his light heavyweight debut. However, Rockhold will make his divisional entrance this weekend (Sat. July 6, 2019) at the UFC 239 pay-per-view (PPV). Rockhold faces off against Jan Blachowicz on, arguably, the biggest card of the year.

Who do you think takes a rematch between Weidman and Rockhold at 205 pounds?

A potential light heavyweight bout between current champion Jon Jones and Chris Weidman looks like it could happen in the future.

Weidman recently announced that he had made the move up from middleweight to light heavyweight. It follows a run that saw the former middleweight champion suffer four knockout defeats in his last five fights. Confident that he will perform much better at 205 pounds, Weidman recently explained why he matches up well with Jones.

“Honestly I think I bring a lot of problems to the table with my wrestling, my jiu-jitsu,” Weidman said. “Also I’m long, and I have power in my hands — especially at 205, I think that might be a benefit for me. I think I’ll even hit harder. I think my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, on paper, is better than his.

Following those comments, a fan tweeted how they would love to see the matchup. Jones, who was tagged in the tweet, responded soon after:

“Chris knows where I’ll be waiting,” Jones tweeted.

Weidman would respond soon after:

“On my way!” he said.

Weidman and Jones was something of a dream matchup a couple of years ago when the former was the middleweight champion. It is possible that “The All-American” gets a shot at Jones should he have a successful light heavyweight debut, especially given how the move up has gone for other former middleweights.

As for Jones, he is scheduled to defend his title against Thiago Santos in the main event of UFC 239 on July 6. Should both fighters emerge victorious, we could finally see this matchup in the future.

Chris Weidman thinks he’s a “serious problem” for Jon Jones now that he has moved up to 205 pounds.

“The All American” recently announced his jump up to the light heavyweight division after dropping four of his last five at middleweight. Speaking to the media at UFC 238 over the weekend, Weidman explained why he believes he’d give current 205-pound champion Jon Jones a run for his money inside the Octagon (via BJPenn.com):

“Honestly I think I bring a lot of problems to the table with my wrestling, my jiu-jitsu,” Weidman. “Also I’m long, and I have power in my hands — especially at 205, I think that might be a benefit for me. I think I’ll even hit harder. I think my wrestling and jiu-jitsu, on paper, is better than his.

“The way he’s able to mix it up so well on the feet and then trick you with his standup and also look for takedowns, the way his uses his elbows and knees… We haven’t seen a guy do it as well as him. So I give him 100% props. But if I’m able to drag it into what I’m great at, I think I bring a serious problem.

“And also my pace, my pace is something that I think I really bring to the table. I don’t know if a lot of 205 pounders can hold up to that.”

Weidman was previously undefeated in his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He began his career with a record of 13-0 before finally being defeated by Luke Rockhold in December of 2015. The defeat marked the end of Weidman’s undefeated streak, and the beginning of his four out of five losing skid.

With the new move up to light heavyweight, a move which Rockhold has also made, it presents some interesting new match-ups for the former 185-pound king.
