Randy Couture reveals his only concern heading into the third fight between Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz.

The two MMA Legends are slated to meet for a third fight at an event that goes down on November 24, 2018, inside The Forum in Inglewood, California. This show will air live on pay-per-view. More fights for the main and undercard of this show will be announced in the coming weeks.

Couture made it known in a recent interview that he has concerns about Liddell’s chances come fight night. It’s not about his age or even his chin but rather it’s about his time off from fighting.

“I’m not too concerned about the age, honestly,” Couture said in a recent interview on the MMA Hour. “I fought right up until where Chuck’s at right now, at a high level. My only concern with that is that Chuck hasn’t been competing. Hasn’t been sparring, hasn’t done anything in the fight realm other than regular strength and conditioning for the last eight years, since he retired.”

Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice throughout their legendary careers, with “The Iceman” knocking out Ortiz at UFC 47 in 2004 and UFC 66 in 2006. Since that second fight, however, Liddell has lost five of his six bouts with four of those losses coming via stoppage.

“So that puts the pressure on him to get back up into fight shape, back up. Get the timing back to where we’re used to seeing Chuck have going into a fight. He had that style where that timing was very, very important.”

Couture also brought up the key with Liddell’s success was due to his timing but with years away from active competition and his age, it will come into question.

“It wasn’t that he was the biggest, strongest or best athlete. He had a very unique timing, to find you right on the end of one of those long levers. Make it a short night. Now, whether he still has that timing. That’s the question.”

Couture continued by bringing up how Ortiz has been more active than Liddell in recent years. He thinks it will be interesting to see how this fight plays out with two men having their own strengths and weaknesses.

“Tito has been way more active, had some big fights. Will he be able to go out and implement his game plan? Which has gotta be getting in Chuck’s face, finding a way to get Chuck on the ground and take some gas out of Chuck. Certainly not standing and trying to trade with Chuck. Find out if he does have that timing. I think it’s gonna be interesting.”

Chuck Liddell claims that he will walk away from the sport of MMA once again if his arch-rival Tito Ortiz will beat him come fight night. They have already agreed to do a trilogy fight.

Legend Continues

Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice throughout their legendary careers, with “The Iceman” knocking out Ortiz at UFC 47 in 2004 and UFC 66 in 2006. Since that second fight, however, Liddell has lost five of his six bouts with four of those losses coming via stoppage.

It’s been well established by UFC President Dana White that he didn’t want to see Liddell fight anymore after being knocked out several times in the later part of his pro-MMA career. However, that didn’t mean that Liddell had no desire to fight again. Thus, when a big money offer came his way, he took it.

Chuck Liddell Claims

The former UFC light heavyweight champion told Radio Rahim of Seconds Out that he will retire again if he can’t beat Ortiz for a third time.

“I’m fighting again. When I started getting back in shape, if I decided to fight I said I was gonna do two or three more after that. I got in shape, I’m ready to go. My body’s firing great. Everything’s going great and I’m ready to fight. This is just a great warm-up fight,” said Liddell (H/T to MMANews). “There’s not a better tuneup fight than him. I mean he’s someone I’m better than at everything, so it’s a great tuneup fight for me. If he beats me, I have no business being back in the ring again. If he beats me, I’m done.”

Dana White wishes that a third fight between former UFC light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell wasn’t happening. However, unfortunately for the UFC President, it is despite his wish.

Dana White’s Wish

The UFC President recently went on record by stating in an interview that he’s upset and wishes this fight wasn’t happening.

“Of course I am (upset),” White told MMAjunkie. “I don’t think it’s any secret how I feel about Chuck Liddell personally, and professionally. I don’t want to (expletive) on his deal that he’s got going on and I hope that he makes a lot of money. I hope the event is very successful for them. But I wish it wasn’t happening.”

“I don’t think Chuck Liddell should be fighting and that’s why I begged him to retire 10 years ago,” White said. “I hope it’s very lucrative for him and he does well.”

Rampage Jackson expresses his support for Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz wanting to fight again each other for the third time. The former UFC light heavyweight champion does have some history with Liddell but has yet to fight Ortiz.

Their History

If you recall, Jackson beat Liddell by knockout to win the UFC light heavyweight title back in 2007 at UFC 71. Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice throughout their legendary careers, with “The Iceman” knocking out Ortiz at UFC 47 in 2004 and UFC 66 in 2006.

Rampage Jackson Expresses

Jackson recently went on record by stating fight fans won’t hear him bash the fight but rather be supportive of it.

“A lot of fans criticize fighters as we get older, and I say this is what we know. This is the sport we love,” Jackson told reporters during a conference call (transcript courtesy of MMAJunkie). “We get older, and we still want to participate in it. I personally don’t see anything wrong with older fighters getting out there and fighting.”

“It’s better to fight another older fighter instead of a younger guy, because that can be dangerous,” Jackson said. “But I’ve got nothing against Tito or Chuck. I’m cool with both of them; I respect both of them. I trained with Tito over the years. I fought Chuck twice, and I know Tito wants to beat Chuck. I think that’s the reason for them fighting a third time.

“I just hope it’s a good fight. I hope both of them are safe, because both of those guys are older than me, and at their age. I know I’d probably be doing other things like fishing. But those guys, they love the sport, and more power to them.”

Jackson will fight Wanderlei Silva at Bellator 206. This event is set to take place on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. The preliminary card will air online at 7:00 pm EST while the main card will air on DAZN and Paramount Network at 9:00 PM EST.

Ortiz continues to hype this fight.

Tito Ortiz has bold expectations for a fight that will likely go down later this year against fellow former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell. This has been a fight that has been in the works for years. All signs point to it actually happening despite both fighters being out of the prime.

Their History

Oscar De La Hoya has gone on record by stating that the fight is slated to take place on the November 25 weekend. It will likely go down on Nov. 24 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Tito Ortiz Has Bold Expectations

Ortiz stated in a recent interview that his expectations are that it will be a huge pay-per-view event and should enormous.

“It’s going to be a huge pay-per-view,” he said. “It’s going be enormous. People want to see either see me get my *** kicked, or Chuck get his *** kicked. My mind is right,” said Ortiz to MMAJunkie. “I don’t have the UFC flying me out two weeks before the fight doing the Latino ESPYs to present an award I never presented, getting sick on the way back. I’m not doing a bunch of PR for them right before the fight. Many things.

“This fight resembles the fight against Chael Sonnen, someone who I don’t like because he showed his true loyalties. He showed how a friendship shouldn’t be. I have an opportunity to smash him,” Ortiz said. “He’s not my friend. I’m not doing this for money. I’m doing this for my legacy, to show not just my fans, but myself, that I’m better than him. On even terms, I’m better than him, and I know it.”

Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz 3 looks to be actually happening and we even have a date for the trilogy fight thanks in large part to Oscar De La Hoya.

After months of both fighters talking about this fight and taking shots at each other, the terms of a contract for a third fight has been agreed upon.

This fight won’t be promoted by the UFC or Bellator MMA but rather under the banner of Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. Over the past months, both Ortiz and Liddell have already gone on record by stating that they would be coming out of retirement to fight once again.

Their History

Liddell and Ortiz have fought twice throughout their legendary careers, with “The Iceman” knocking out Ortiz at UFC 47 in 2004 and UFC 66 in 2006.

Since that second fight, however, Liddell has lost five of his six bouts with four of those losses coming via stoppage. He then retired in 2010 and hasn’t competed in nearly eight years.

Ortiz, meanwhile, last competed at Bellator 170 in January 2017, scoring a first-round submission victory over Chael Sonnen. Prior to that, he had won two of his three previous fights.

Chuck Liddell vs Tito Ortiz 3 Possible Date

We do know that his fight will air on pay-per-view and mark Golden Boy’s first MMA event. The latest update on this fight was the fact that Oscar De La Hoya filed an application last month with the California State Athletic Commission.

The reason for it was to hold an event on Nov. 24 at The Forum in Inglewood, California. The main event listed on the application is Chuck Liddell vs. Tito Ortiz 3. De La Hoya told Fight Hub TV earlier this week that the fight is slated to take place on the November 25 weekend.

“I’m looking forward to getting into the MMA world. Making sure these fighters are being compensated well,” De La Hoya said (transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “We risk our lives in the ring, so fighter should be compensated extremely well.”
