Following the recent clash for the Flyweight title between Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno resulting in a draw, would be Flyweight title contender, and former Bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has set his sight elsewhere calling for a bout with former two-division champion Henry Cejudo.

Initially booked to face Figueiredo at UFC 255, Garbrandt has been teasing a move down in weight for some time, however, due to COVID issues he was unable to compete in that scheduled bout, and since the UFC moved on to match up Figueiredo with the number one contender in the division.

Garbrandt, however, appears eager to get back out in the octagon requesting a bout against Cejudo on March 6th, however, the former champion was not specific on the weight class, leaving that decision to Cejudo.

Back in May Cejudo competed for what appears to have been his last time, defending his Bantamweight title against former champion Dominick Cruz. After winning this fight via stoppage Cejudo announced he would be retiring from the sport and has since stated the only fight he would return for is a Featherweight title shot against Alexander Volkanovski.

Garbranndt most recently competed at UFC 250 securing a stunning knockout of Raphael Assuncao in the co-main event. Following this, he announced his move to Flyweight. Previous to this Garbrandt had been coming off back to back losses since claiming the Bantamweight title off Dominick Cruz.

Flyweight looks to be the new home for Garbrandt even suggesting that he get his shot at both Figueiredo and Moreno.

With their bout resulting in a draw it looks likely the UFC will move to rebook the fight which has been spoken of by many as a fight of the year contender and praised by Dana White as the best fight in the history of the Flyweight division.

Former dual weight UFC champion Henry Cejudo got into it last night with one-time bantamweight king Cody Garbrandt about who is next in line for a shot at Deiveson Figueiredo.

In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani of ESPN, the current flyweight champion expressed his desire to “shut up” Cejudo by fighting him next if he manages to get by Brandon Moreno at UFC 256 this coming weekend.

‘Triple C’ took this as an opportunity to take shots at Garbrandt who was supposed to face Figueiredo at UFC 255 before being forced out of the bout due to catching COVID-19 and suffering several long-term issues due to the virus.

“Hey Cody Garbrandt wait in line! Looks like the #rentschamp still misses me more. Deiveson Figueiredo if you can tell me in English I may consider it. But until then, go get hooked on phonics.”

‘No Love’ was clearly irked by Cejudo’s taunts and immedialey called for a fight, he wrote.

“Why do we need to wait March 6th, I gave you the date you pick the weight. I don’t give a fuck about the title, if you proclaim yourself the king then don’t be a coward. Don’t run away when you are in your prime, the biggest fights lay ahead.”

“My legacy is written and will never be broken,” Cejudo responded. “You are what I call a appetizer before the main course. You simply have no juice for me playboy. Stay up, keep that chin nice and strong for me.”

Cejudo retired from the sport earlier this year after successfully defending his bantamweight title against 135lb legend Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. ‘Triple C’ has stayed in the limelight by calling for a fight with featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and seems destined to make a comeback in 2021.

Garbrandt snapped a three-fight losing streak last time out. The former bantamweight champion scored a knockout of the year contender against Raphael Assuncao before announcing his move to 125lbs where he was granted an immediate title shot.

The former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt has revealed that he is currently battling several health issues related to contracting COVID-19 back in August.

Garbrandt was originally supposed to face off against flyweight champion Deiveson Figueiredo at UFC 255 which took place last night. In October ‘No Love’ was forced out of the bout due to a torn bicep. Alex Perez replaced him and was quickly dispatched of by the 125lb king at the UFC Apex last night. Prior to that Garbrandt was reported to have contracted the coronavirus but it was not believed to be an ongoing issue, rather one he had managed to quickly shake off like many other MMA fighters.

Garbrandt took to social media last night to explain that he is still experiencing some severe issues, such as blood clots, pneumonia, and mental fog which are all are all symptoms of the post-COVID syndrome.

“Disclaimer from my last post, I was positive for COVID Aug 29th,” Garbrandt wrote on Instagram. “Since then I have been battling vertigo, tore my vein in my bicep which resulted in finding out I have blood clots, pneumonia and mental fog, these are the symptoms I’ve had and been dealing with and this is the reason I pulled out of the fight. I haven’t done any media, but I’d like to address it on my own terms.” (Transcribed by MMA Mania)

Despite these ongoing issues, Garbrandt told Brett Okamoto that he will be ready to square off against Figueiredo in March.

“Spoke briefly to Cody Garbrandt (@Cody_Nolove),” Okamoto wrote on Twitter. ““Alex Perez was just someone they gave Figueiredo to build up our fight more. I knock that guy (Figueiredo) out in the first or second round. I’ll be ready by March.””

Do you think Cody Garbrandt will be able to recover from his health issues and return to fighting in the next few months?

It’s fair to say Cody Garbrandt wasn’t impressed with Deiveson Figueiredo’s latest win.

Figueiredo successfully defended his flyweight title for the first time following a first-round submission win over Alex Perez in the UFC 255 headliner on Saturday night. The Brazilian was able to sink in the guillotine choke after a mistake from Perez which ultimately led to the tap.

Of course, Perez wasn’t Figueiredo’s original opponent. Instead, it was former bantamweight champion Garbrandt who was initially booked to face Figueiredo only to pull out through injury.

And it seems like “No Love” is still gunning for a flyweight title shot with a March date in mind.

“Alex Perez was just someone they gave Figueiredo to build up our fight more,” Garbrandt told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto. “I knock that guy (Figueiredo) out in the first or second round. I’ll be ready by March.”

However, with the UFC planning for Brandon Moreno to challenge Figueiredo as soon as next month, it looks like Garbrandt will have to wait for the next crack.

Of course, if Figueiredo is booked against Moreno in December and comes out on top relatively unscathed, the timeline could still work for him to face Garbrandt in March.

For now, we’ll just have to see how things play out.

Who do you think should get the next crack?
