Daniel Cormier doesn’t believe that former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor deserved to be attacked following the UFC 229.

However, that doesn’t mean that the blame is all on the shoulders of Khabib Nurmagomedov, who made his first successful title defense as UFC lightweight champion. He did just that in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 229 pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It Was Personal

The UFC light heavyweight and heavyweight champion went on record by tweeting after this event that Nurmagomedov’s win over McGregor was “really personal” for the Russian champ. Thus, he had a lot of emotions heading into this fight.

Backstory

It should be noted that Cormier is a Nurmagomedov teammate at American Kickboxing Academy and needs to be taken into consideration when reading and understanding the words of DC. According to Cormier, he thinks that several factors played a part in the highly-anticipated lightweight title fight. Thus, the reason why Khabib was so upset after the fight and why things were so heated even afterward.

The Brawl

In case anyone missed it, Nurmagomedov jumped over the cage and attacked McGregor teammate Dillon Danis. This allowed two teammates of Khabib’s getting into the cage where they punched McGregor. This is when all chaos ensued.

Daniel Cormier Doesn’t Believe

“Two wrongs don’t make it right,” Cormier wrote. “Conor didn’t deserve that. No one did. But some things aren’t for fight promotion. Religion, family, country. Throwing stuff in Brooklyn. For Khabib it wasn’t fight promotion, it was really personal. Diff culture man. Sucks.”

Cormier is slated to make his first title defense as UFC heavyweight champion against former champ Brock Lesnar in January of 2019. Although DC has gone on record in the past by stating that he plans to retire in March of next year, he has expressed interest in defending the light heavyweight title again. In fact, now that his arch-rival Jon Jones has been cleared to fight, DC wants to fight Jones for the third time. Time will tell if that fight is booked.

Conor McGregor wants a rematch against UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov following their fight at UFC 229. The former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion also issued brief statements about the loss.

As seen in the main event of Saturday’s UFC 229 pay-per-view event at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nurmagomedov beat McGregor by fourth-round neck crank. The UFC has released the official statistics regarding the fight that noted that McGregor was taken down a total of three out of seven attempts from Khabib.

Also, the UFC champ landed 70 significant strikes and 104 total strikes. As a result of this win, Khabib improved his winning ways as he moves to a pro-MMA record of 27-0 and kept his lightweight title in the process.

John Kavanagh Speaks

McGregor’s longtime coach, John Kavanagh, also issued a statement by writing the following statement on Twitter:

“Another historical night. Amazing atmosphere, technical fight with excitement all the way thru. All that makes MMA a great sport. Shame about the ending. On to the next one.”

The problem with McGregor’s request is the fact that this is not like his first fight against Nate Diaz, which saw him lose. Obviously, McGregor wants to run it back just like he did against Diaz. This is not the same case due to the actions made by Khabib following the fight. It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out.

Khabib Nurmagomedov sends the final warning to his opponent, Conor McGregor, before they step inside of the Octagon to fight for the UFC lightweight title. Khabib will make his first title defense as UFC lightweight champ against the former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ.

Straight To It

The fighters made weight on Friday morning and took part in the ceremonial weigh-ins that evening in front of a large crowd and thousands watching at home on FOX Sports 1/online.

The expectation was for them to have a heated staredown and that turned out to be true as it lived up to the hype. Once they faced off, McGregor slapped down at Nurmagomedov’s outstretched fist. This led to them being separated and McGregor threw a kick right past UFC President Dana White who was between them.

Time To Talk

Following this incident, longtime UFC color commentator Joe Rogan interviewed both men where McGregor spoke first. He told Rogan to interact with Nurmagomedov.

“Don’t let that smelly rat put that hat on your head, Joe,” McGregor said (H/T to MMAFighting). “The smell of that f**king thing. Don’t ever let him put that hat on your head. It’s good to be back. UFC fans, it’s good to be f**king back. The king is home.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov Sends Final Warning

This led to Khabib being next to be interviewed where he sent a final message to McGregor while trying to over talk the crowd, who were booing him.

“Tomorrow night, I’m going to smash your boy, guys. I’m going to smash your boy,” Nurmagomedov said. “And I want to say thank you all Irish fans, all fans around the world. Because of you guys, this fight is happening. Thank you guys and tomorrow night, inshallah, and still.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is set to take place on tonight (Saturday, October 6, 2018) at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Dana White Praises Khabib For ‘Perfectly Played’ Strategy To McGregor’s ‘Mind Games’

White had nothing but positive things to say about the UFC lightweight champion.

The post Dana White Praises Khabib For ‘Perfectly Played’ Strategy To McGregor’s ‘Mind Games’ appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Dana White praises Khabib Nurmagomedov for his actions when he took the stage for what was supposed to be the final exchange with Conor McGregor before they fight. This was being hyped as the last time that they would trade words in a public setting before getting inside of the Octagon.

Nurmagomedov will attempt to make his first successful title defense as lightweight champ against the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion. Things didn’t go according to plan.

Nurmagomedov was left sitting around and waiting for McGregor to get to the press conference. This is not what Khabib wanted as he started the hard cut to make weight as he was most likely starving and miserable during the final day of his weight cut.

Thus, he decided to have different plans as he bailed on the conference before McGregor could arrive due to him always being late to these media events. The UFC President took notice of this move and thought it was a great move on the part of the UFC champ.

Mind Games

“These are all mind games leading up until tomorrow,” White told ESPN (H/T to MMAMania). “If you really look at what happened in New York, I think Conor McGregor absolutely got in his head, got in his manager’s head, rattled and shook them all in New York.”

Dana White Praises Khabib

White continued by stating that he thought it was a perfect counter-punch by the champ and handled it like a pro.

“I thought [Thursday] was the perfect counter-punch by Khabib. Khabib went out there at three o’clock, said, ‘I’m a professional, I’m here, I’m here to answer questions, and then I’m going to leave.’ I thought it was played perfectly by Khabib.”

The UFC 229 pay-per-view event is set to take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Khabib Nurmagomedov says the grandfather of former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor killed the Irish.

Bad Blood

The build for this fight is no doubt personal going into their lightweight title fight in the headliner of the UFC 229 pay-per-view event. From the harsh talk to the bus incident to the arrest of the former champ and now this.

The open workouts for this event were quite the show as there were several big name fighters who had a lot to say to those fans who attended. That includes Nurmagomedov, who made a bold statement.

Khabib Nurmagomedov Says

After doing a quick workout where he received boos by fans of McGregor, the UFC lightweight champion took the microphone where he took some shots of his own not only at McGregor but his Irish fans.

“In three days, you’re gonna like me. You’re gonna like me in three days. I have question for Ireland. What about your language? What about Irish language? Where is your language right now? What’s wrong with your language? You guys change it? What about your language? Please someone can give me answer? You guys with England right now?”

McGregor’s Grandfather

This is when the UFC lightweight champion talked about Conor’s grandfather and made some interesting claims.

“This guy talks (about) them fighting against English but his grandfather, Christopher McGregor was with the English navy. And he killed your people. And now you guys support him (H/To to Bloody Elbow). I’m gonna change this Saturday night.”
