Ahead of his own return to combat sports in just weeks time, Nate Diaz already has sights set on an incoming return to the UFC, in the form of a trilogy rubber match against two-time foe, Conor McGregor – ideally at The Las Vegas Sphere in September at UFC 306.

Diaz, a former undisputed lightweight title challenger and victor of The Ultimate Fighter, will return to combat sports next month in ‘Sin City’ – taking on another former UFC star, Jorge Masvidal in a rematch of their 2019 fight at Madison Square Garden.

As for McGregor, the former duel-weight champion was slated to make his comeback this weekend at UFC 303 during International Fight Week, until a fractured toe on his left foot prevented him from taking on Michael Chandler in a return to the welterweight limit.

And ahead of his scrap with Masvidal inside the squared circle, Diaz has echoed his desire to take on the former duel-weight champion – as soon as UFC 306 – claiming a third bout between the two needs to take place sooner than later.

“I want to get this [Jorge Masvida] fight out of the way before I start thinking about the future,” Nate Diaz told Give Me Sport during a recent interview. “But I would like to fight him (Conor McGregor) and I would like to fight him in a rematch in MMA. At UFC 306, it would be great, if that were an option, but if not, then in the future, in the UFC, at some point.”

“I see it as a fight that needs to happen,” Nate Diaz continued. “We got the second out of the way, and the third should have happened straight away, also. And at some point, it’s going to happen.”

Dana White offers bleak update on Conor McGregor's return to the Octagon: 'None of the above'

If you planned on seeing Conor McGregor return to the Octagon at some point over the next few months, I’m afraid we’ve got some bad news.

McGregor’s quote-unquote “greatest comeback in combat sports history” feels like a phrase that was coined a century ago. In reality, it’s only been about a year, but it seems like there’s a new piece of information to report on an almost daily basis.

Sometimes it’s McGregor himself announcing when and where he’ll return. Other times, it’s UFC CEO Dana White completely contradicting whatever ‘Mystic Mac’ said the week before.

Today, we’ve got the latter.

After withdrawing from his main event slot at UFC 303 against Michael Chandler due to a broken pinky toe, McGregor revealed in an interview with Severe MMA that a return in August or September would be optimal.

Like clockwork, White debunked everything the former two-division titleholder just said, telling Robbie Fox of Barstool Sports that McGregor’s return won’t be happening anytime this summer, nor is it on the docket for Fall 2024.

“None of the above,” White said when asked about McGregor’s comeback in August, September, or October.

And just like that, we’re back to the drawing board.

To be fair, Dana White was pretty tight-lipped about McGregor’s original return date of June 29, even after the Irishman and his opponent had already broken the news to the rest of the world.

“I don’t know right now. Our schedule is laid out. We’ll see,” White said at the UFC Saudi Arabia post-fight press conference when asked about McGregor’s next fight. “I’m not doing anything until I know that Conor is healthy. It’s not even worth talking about. What about September? What about October? He’s not ready. So why even talk about that?”

Instead of seeing McGregor vs. Chandler on Saturday night, fight fans will be treated to a light heavyweight champion rematch as Alex Pereira puts his 205-pound title on the line against Jiri Prochazka in the UFC 303 main event at T-Mobile Arena.

The fight will serve as a rematch of their November 2023 clash in Madison Square Garden. There, ‘Poatan’ secured a second-round KO of Prochazka to take the vacant light heavyweight title back home to Brazil. He’ll look to go two-up on the Czech as the pair of prolific knockout artists close out this year’s International Fight Week in Las Vegas.

Hoping to land a comeback fight at the end of the summer, potentially as soon as August – McGregor has added to his acting portfolio this week – following his recent appearance in the Roadhouse remake, starring in another video game.

Conor McGregor features as new character in Hitman video game

Landing in the Hitman universe this time around – McGregor’s likeness and voice are used as a character named ‘The Disruptor’ as part of a DLC (Downloaded Content) mission on the video game – in which he is described as a ‘multi-billionaire MMA fighter’.

“Attention, Agents,’ Hitman’s official X account posted. “The Disruptor has arriving soon, and your mission brief is ready. Featuring @TheNotoriousMMA this is a challenge like no other. Watch the trailer and prepare to execute.”

Earlier in his mixed martial arts career, McGregor featured as an antagonist in the Call of Duty series – in the Infinite Warfare video game, as a character by the name of Captain Bradley Fillion. 

Hoping to fight later this year back inside the Octagon, McGregor confirmed he is still hoping to fight Chandler in a bid to settle their differences following their coaching battle on The Ultimate Fighter 31.
