UFC bantamweight contender, Song Yadong has revealed he has been experiencing triple vision ever since suffering his fourth round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to Cory Sandhagen at UFC Vegas 60 earlier this month. And is set to undergo a surgical procedure to address an orbital fracture.

Headlining for the first time under the UFC banner earlier this month, Yadong, who currently holds the #9 rank in the official bantamweight rankings, suffered an eventual fourth round doctor’s stoppage TKO loss to perennial contender, Sandhagen, who had sliced him open with a series of elbows

Song Yadong is set to go under the knife to address a fractured orbital

Seeing his impressive run of three victories halted, Song Yadong, who had only previously suffered a unanimous decision defeat to Kyler Philips in his Octagon tenure, revealed he suffered a fractured orbital in his headliner with Sandhagen, and had been experiencing triple vision.

“Since round two, I was seeing triple vision because of this orbital fracture,” Song Yadong posted on his Twitter account, accompanied by an x-ray image of his injury. “I was facing Cory (Sandhagen) in front of me. A titanium piece will put in for me next week, will come back tougher with the metal (closed fist emoji) (cat emoji).”

Following the impressive victory for Sandhagen, which snapped a two-fight losing skid for the one-time interim title challenger, the former praised the toughness of Yadong throughout their main event clash.

“Song (Yadong) is a hell of a fighter,” Cory Sandhagen said. “I knew that he was going to be super tough. The guy hits really hard and he defended the takedowns really well. I think I was starting to figure him out as the fight was going on, so I was really looking forward to a fifth round.”

Prior to his loss to Colorado technician, Sandhagen, Yadong had chalked up victories over Julio Arce, Casey Kenney, Vince Morales, Marlon Vera, and former title chaser, Marlon Moraes to name a few.

Cory Sandhagen snapped a two-fight losing skid with a fourth-round stoppage over Song Yadong at UFC Vegas 60 on Saturday night.

It was a bit win for ‘The Sandman’ after dropping back-to-back fights against T.J. Dillashaw and Petr Yan. The fight was stopped following the conclusion of the fourth round at the suggestion of the ringside doctor due to a large cut that had opened over the eye of Song earlier in the contest.

Following his win, Cory Sandhagen discussed his next potential bout during the post-fight press conference. There, Sandhagen called out two fighters, Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera and Merab Dvalishvili.

“Chito and Merab are the obvious names. Both of them pose very different challenges, two completely opposite fighters almost. I don’t really care man. Give me one of them for Christmas.”

During an appearance on Submission Radio, Vera was asked about his thoughts on Cory Sandhagen’s callout.

“Really, nothing. I’m like, you want it, f*ck, come and get it you know? Simple as that. I feel like he was, in my opinion, he was kind of like wasting a little bit of energy and crying about like, ‘Oh, I got left over. Blah, blah, blah. I’m fighting low in the rankings.’ I did the same thing my last fight. I didn’t complain, you know?”

‘Chito’ Vera Will Be Prepared for Cory Sandhagen

With Cory Sandhagen sitting in the No. 4 spot and ‘Chito’ Vera one spot up at No. 5, a fight between the two top-five contenders would make a lot of sense. Should the UFC deem that to be the next fight to make, ‘Chito’ will be more than prepared for ‘The Sandman’.

“Petr Yan got offered the same fight on the same day, August 13th and he declined it. They were like, ‘Yan declined the fight, do you want to fight Cruz?’ I said, ‘Sure, send the contract.’ Why waste time on, ‘Oh, I got left over and I want to fight for the belt. I want to fight ahead.’ We all want to fight ahead, but sometimes it is what it is. What is available. So, yeah, you know, if you want it, you can [come] get some. And if you don’t get it, somebody else [will] get it. It doesn’t matter. I’ll be prepared if it’s for him or somebody else, it’s on.

In August, Vera scored a highlight-reel head kick knockout of former two-time UFC champion Dominick Cruz in August. That extended Vera’s win streak to four, with victories over Davey Grant, Frankie Edgar, and Rob Font. ‘Chita’ is also the only man to defeat fan favorite Sean O’Malley, earning a first-round TKO over ‘Sugar’ at UFC 252.

Song Yadong has taken to social media following his TKO loss to Cory Sandhagen in the main event of UFC Vegas 60.

In what was a back-and-forth affair, Cory Sandhagen was able to emerge victorious over Song Yadong in the bantamweight matchup. Sandhagen himself will be looking to return to the octagon before the end of the year following his impressive victory to snap his two-fight losing streak. Yadong on the other hand will be looking to take the necessary time away to heal before making his return to the octagon.

Speaking on his social media the 24-year-old prospect gave credit to his opponent for his performance but promised his fanbase that he will be returning soon enough.

‘So basically couldn’t see anything after the cut. Props to @corysandhagen land that elbow. It wasn’t my night but a good fight. I will be back soon. @ufc #UFCVegas60’

Being at such a young age the Yadong still has plenty of time to develop himself as a fighter and eventually return to continue pushing forward with his title ambitions.

Who should Song Yadong face upon his return?

Whilst Sandhagen has made it clear he is interested in taking on any contenders above him, making special reference to Marlon Vera and Merab Dvalishvili, let us look at what matchups would make sense for the ‘Kung Fu Kid’ to take when he does return.

One potential opponent that Yadong could face upon his return is currently 7th ranked bantamweight Rob Font. Both men will be entering their next bouts coming off the back of defeats and if paired up would provide a very entertaining and fan-friendly matchup.

However, if an opponent who is currently ranked above him is not available then let us entertain the idea that Song Yadong could take on the 12th-ranked veteran Frankie Edgar who is looking for one final matchup before his retirement. A great name for Yadong to potentially add to his resume.

It is unclear just how long Yadong will be side-lined for following his loss, however, fight fans will be excited to see him step back inside the octagon whenever that may be.
