Dan Hooker returned to action a lot earlier this expected.

After breaking his arm while preparing for a scrap with Bobby Green last month, the tenured UFC fan favorite has kept busy by making the rounds on various podcasts and radio shows. In one particular instance, ‘The Hangman’ decided to flex his submission skills.

During an appearance on The Morning Rumble, the UFC lightweight contender was asked to execute a triangle choke on Mitch Farr, one of the show’s producers.

Things went exactly as you would expect.

In the clip, Hooker forces a tap out of Farr twice before really digging in on the third try. Despite Farr repeatedly tapping out, he was briefly put to sleep.

Clearly disoriented, but brandishing a smile on his face once regaining consciousness, Farr commented on the grappling exchange saying, “I’m good.”

After dropping four out of five fights, Dan Hooker bounced back with back-to-back wins over Claudio Puelles and Jalin Turner. ‘The Hangman’ was hoping to get one more win to close out his 2023, but an unfortunate injury ended his year early. 13-8 under the UFC banner and 23-12 overall, Hooker will now focus on healing up so that he can carry his momentum into the new year.

Fresh off his shocking upset knockout win over Grant Dawson at the beginning of October, veteran lightweight favorite, Bobby Green has booked another five round clash – this time in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night Austin on December 2. against fellow division staple, New Zealand striker, Dan Hooker. The event is slated to take place from the Moody Center on December 2. from Austin, Texas.

Green, the current number twelve ranked lightweight contender, earned his spot within the promotional top-15 at the beginning of last month, recording his second straight stoppage win with a blistering opening round knockout win over Dawson in his second headlining fight, landing a 33-second KO victory. The win also secured Green a post-fight Performance of the Night Bonus.

As for Hooker, the long-time City Kickboxing trainee has been sidelined since landing his second straight win since his lightweight return back in July, going the distance over three rounds with the highly-touted, Jalin Turner en route to a close, split decision win. News of Bobby Green’s return against Dan Hooker was first announced by UFC CEO, Dana White overnight

Prior to his win over Dawson at the beginning of last month, San Bernardino native Green had stopped former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson back in July at UFC 291, wrapping up a rare submission win in the form of a third round arm-triangle choke.

Landing the number nine rank at lightweight with his judging win over Turner, Kiwi lightweight contender, Hooker had snapped a disappointing run of two consecutive losses with a dominant finish of the highly-touted Peruvian grappler, Claudio Puelles back in November of last year, with a second round body kick KO win.

Atop that UFC Fight Night Austin card in December, lightweight contenders, Beneil Dariush and Arman Tsarukyan take main event honors over the course of five rounds – as Dariush looks to rebound from a June knockout loss to former champion, Charles Oliveira. As for the highly-touted, Tsarukan, the Armenian has been sidelined since a June knockout win over Joaquim Silva.

Turning in a blistering first round knockout win over Grant Dawson in last night’s UFC Vegas 80 headliner, veteran lightweight staple, Bobby Green has welcomed the opportunity to fight Dan Hooker in his next Octagon appearance – which he hopes occurs as soon as December.

Green, who made a headlining walk for just the second time in his lengthy Octagon stay last night at the UFC Apex facility, made good on his sophomore main event appearance, stopping the highly-rated Dawson with a stunning 33-second knockout win, to extend his winning spree to two straight fights.

Earlier this year, San Bernardino veteran, Green submitted former interim lightweight champion, Tony Ferguson with a third round arm-triangle submission win at UFC 291 – handing the Oxnard native his sixth successive Octagon loss.

And despite remaining coy on his next Octagon walk following his stunning upset knockout win over Dawson, Green admitted his team want him to pursue a fight with the above-mentioned New Zealand striker, Hooker, as he prepares for a potential end-of-year return in December.

“My coach has been putting names in my ear, they said (Dan) Hooker,” Bobby Green told assembled media after UFC Vegas 80. “They want me to fight Hooker and I’m like, ‘Okay, if Hooker is down, I’m down,’”

“I’m down to even headline the prelims,” Bobby Green explained. “I know that the [December] cards are so stacked up. I just got to go check out my hand a little bit.”

And in an almost immediate response to Green, City Kickboxing striker, Hooker welcomed the chance to fight Green next – before taking aim at fellow lightweight contender, Renato Moicano.

“Let’s boogie @BobbyKGreen,” Dan Hooker posted on his official X account. “Moicano can suck it.”

After an insane battle with Jalin Turner at UFC 290, Dan Hooker has now revealed the true extent of the damage he suffered, and clarified if he did truly “break his arm”.

After the split-decision victory, ‘The Hangman’ was interviewed by Joe Rogan inside the octagon. Hooker made for quite a sight, as his hair was stained red from all the blood spilled during the fight. “He’s (Jalin Turner) a tough kid,” Hooker chuckled. “Scrappy… I wanted my hair pink (with blood) from the fight and I got it.”

Rogan would ask Dan Hooker if he broke his arm during the fight and the fighter grinned and said: “Just a scratch, but, we’ll have to see.” This would prompt Hooker and Rogan to begin laughing, and later on ‘The Hangman’ would indeed go to the hospital where x-rays would show he broke his wrist during the insane battle.

Later on that night, Hooker would tweet a photo of the x-ray of his broken wrist. An injury that is not the end of the world, but, definitely will keep him sidelined for a while and impact his daily life for quite some time.

At the post-fight press conference, Dana White himself would reveal that Hooker broke his wrist in the second round of the fight. Dan Hooker’s spirits seemed to be high though, as ‘The Hangman’ would later on post a picture of him and Jalin Turner side-by-side in the hospital.

While the pair would not end up winning the “Fight of The Night” bonus, Hooker would, in fact, receive 20% of Jalin Turner’s fight purse due to ‘The Tarantula’ missing weight leading into the fight.

Dan Hooker scored a split decision victory on Saturday night following an incredible three-round war with Jalin Turner at UFC 290.

The opening round was reminiscent of a chess match with each fighter taking their time, keeping their distance, and plotting their next few moves in advance. Turner appeared as the faster fighter, landing multiple combinations in response to Hooker’s repeated kicks to the legs, body, and head.

While the opening round was relatively close, the second round saw all hell break loose beginning with a lightning-fast head kick from Turner that landed clean on Hooker. Smelling blood in the water, Turner moved in and unloaded a flurry of strikes, but Hooker was able to endure the onslaught and eventually turn the tables. Hooker somehow recovered from the brutal blow and stormed back, pushing Turner to the fence, and unloading a series of strikes that sent Turner to the canvas. Hooker jumped on Turner’s back and managed to lock in a rear-naked choke, but Turner was saved by the bell.

The third round saw Turner attempt to mount a comeback, but his gas tank was clearly depleted. Hooker pushed the pace and scored his first takedown of the fight, maintaining top position for the majority of the round. With mere seconds remaining, Turner was able to muster the strength to get back to his feet, but by then there was no time left to mount any additional offense.
