TORONTO – Not yet halfway through its first UFC Fan Expo in Canada, the promotion was ready to spring loose the early details on its next fan event.
UFC president Dana White announced Friday during a question-and-answer session with fans at the Toronto UFC Fan Expo that Houston will host one on Oct. 7-8. The promotion had not previously made any announcement for its next fan event.
The UFC has not yet made official a fight card for that weekend in Houston. Sources with the promotion could not yet confirm on Friday to MMA Fighting that the weekend will also play host to a pay-per-view. But all the other UFC Fan Expos have been lead-ins for pay-per-views, and the belief is that the Houston Fan Expo will be no different – possibly UFC 136.
The buzz word around the UFC for years, especially from president Dana White, has been “global.”
With its first stadium show, UFC 129 in Toronto on April 30, the promotion may have hit that word harder than it ever has before.
UFC 129 will shatter North American mixed martial arts gate and attendance records with an expected 55,000 fans at the Rogers Centre for a gate of more than $10 million. And the UFC Fan Expo being held in conjunction with the fight card has opened the doors for more fans at one MMA event than any other in history.
But Tom Wright, the UFC’s director of Canadian operations, said Tuesday that for UFC 129, “global” will be more than just a buzz word. It will be quite literal.

For the seventh straight event, the UFC will once again utilize Facebook to bring free fights to fans.
Though not yet announced by the promotion, sources close to the UFC told MMA Fighting on Tuesday the company plans to stream at least two preliminary card fights live on its Facebook fan page during the historic UFC 129 card in Toronto on April 30.
The current plan is for the bantamweight fight between Ivan Menjivar and Charlie Valencia and the welterweight bout between Claude Patrick and Daniel Roberts to be streamed on the UFC’s Facebook page, though the precise fights – and number of fights – could change.
