Daniel Cormier details a cool story of the reaction of his daughter to seeing Derrick Lewis in the moment of defeat.

Over the weekend at the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, Cormier was able to successfully retain his title over Lewis. This fight served as the main event of the show that went down at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan, New York City.

The UFC heavyweight champion went on record by telling MMAjunkie Radio co-host Brian “Goze” Garcia a cool story about his daughter. More specifically, her reaction to seeing a defeated Lewis after UFC 230.

“I think my kids love the fights. They love the excitement of the arena. They’ve been to the last three. They love that, but they also don’t love the other side. Like, my daughter doesn’t love the other side, man.”

Cormier continued by bringing up how his family was at the post-fight conference and waiting for him to take the stage. At this point, she noticed Lewis dealing with the loss at the show.

“She was in the press conference area waiting for me to go. Derrick went in there, and he was in the same area of my kids. And my wife said she saw him, looking over there, my little girl. Derrick was kind of standing there with his head down.”

The UFC heavyweight champ recalled how his family knows the ups and downs of the sport after he lost to Jon Jones at UFC 214. Thus, they knew what Lewis was dealing with.

“(My daughter) goes, ‘Mom.’ And my wife goes, ‘What?’ She goes, ‘I feel really bad for Derrick. He looks sad.’ So, like, they got to see the other side. And I don’t think my daughter likes that, man. She’s very sensitive. I don’t think they’ll be calling for Dad to even fight again. Because they also saw me on the other side when I lost to Jones. So they know the ups and downs of the fight game.”

Quote: Brock Lesnar Will Be Tougher Fight For Daniel Cormier Than Lewis

Daniel Cormier has booked himself in a fight that could be the toughest contest of his pro-MMA career.

Brock Lesnar will be a tougher fight for Daniel Cormier than his latest bout against Derrick Lewis, according to one former UFC star. DC continues to add more achievements to his legacy that will be looked upon once he steps away from the sport of MMA.

Over the weekend at the UFC 230 pay-per-view event, Cormier was able to successfully retain his title over Lewis. It’s been established that Cormier would like to make his next title defense against Lesnar at the UFC 233 event.

Brendan Schaub recently gave some high praise to Cormier following UFC 230.

“What makes DC great is yes, obviously he’s athletic. He’s gifted with some abilities a lot of other guys aren’t, but Daniel Cormier’s brain, his cerebral game is so much better than everybody else that’s ever fought,” Schaub said recently on his Below the Belt podcast.

Brock Lesnar More Threating To The King?

The former UFC heavyweight star continued by stating that Cormier has a better mental game than Jon Jones or even Alexander Gustafsson.

“He’s way better at the mental aspect of facing adversity, sticking to a game plan with what he has. Is he more athletic than Jon Jones? No. Is he more athletic than Gustafsson? No. His mental game is so much better than these guys. He’s the most intelligent fighter to ever fight in the UFC. I truly believe that.”

The former MMA fighter turned podcaster and comedian brought up how Lesnar is an athletically freak. He also thinks that Lesnar doesn’t get talked about enough for this.

“[With Lesnar] you’re talking a complete freak,” said Schaub (H/T to MMAFighting). “Athletically, is he the biggest freak to ever do it? He’s f**king up there, man. We don’t talk about it enough. A guy at his age and with his background. He’s not even a part time mixed martial artist.”

At the end of the day, Schaub sees Cormier fighting Lesnar as a tougher fight than against Derrick Lewis.

“He’s f**king tough to deal with. No one goes in there and is like, ‘Ah this is a gimme fight.’ Even DC’s not like that. I promise you Brock Lesnar will be a tougher fight for DC than Derrick Lewis was. We don’t give that man enough props.”

Daniel Cormier Responds To Derrick Lewis’ ‘Scared Of Jon Jones’ Comment

Daniel Cormier has reacted to the latest comments made by his next challenger.

The post Daniel Cormier Responds To Derrick Lewis’ ‘Scared Of Jon Jones’ Comment appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Daniel Cormier responds to the latest comments made by Derrick Lewis just days before they meet inside of the Octagon.

DC will make his first UFC heavyweight title defense against the hard-hitting heavyweight. This bout will serve as the headliner of the UFC 230 pay-per-view event.

Lewis stated on Wednesday that he thinks the only reason he got this fight is out of fear. That fear is Cormier being scared to face Jon Jones a third time. Once Cormier responded, he made it known that Lewis is known for saying outlandish things. Also, the UFC never offered him a fight against Jones.

“I was never offered the fight against Jon Jones,” Daniel told reporters, including following his UFC 230 open workout (via MMA Junkie). “Nobody told me to fight Jon Jones. I think Derrick has said it, himself, openly that some of the things (he says) you take with a grain of salt, some of the things you believe what he’s saying. He’s just bull(expletive) on that one.”

Daniel Cormier Well Prepared

Despite all of this, it hasn’t got him off his focus and goal. He understands what Lewis brings to the table when fighting him under the bright lights.

“In learning about Derrick Lewis, it didn’t make me think, ‘This is going to be an easier fight,’” Cormier said. “It’s going to be tougher than the general public may believe. It made me understand him knocking out Alexander Volkov (at UFC 229) wasn’t the exception.”

Cormier is well aware of the challenge that he’s facing and knows what kind of difficulties he must overcome to be victorious.

“It was his expectation because he has fought from the very pits of hell, and he scraped his way back up to who he is today.”

The UFC champ is determined to prove to Lewis that there are levels to the MMA game he’s never even seen yet.

“I’m going to try to rip Derrick Lewis apart,” Cormier said. “There are levels to this fight game. I’ve said that before. I’ve competed at a level above most people for a long time.”
