Heavyweight legend George Foreman believes Deontay Wilder vs. Tyson Fury II could be one of the greatest fights in boxing history.

The heavyweight duo fought to a controversial draw in December 2018 and are now set to fight again in February 2020.

Fury out-boxed Wilder for most of the fight and seemed on his way to a routine decision victory. However Wilder managed to drop his man in the 9th round. He then almost knocked Fury out cold in the 12th round. The Englishman somehow rose to his feet and looked unfazed. Both fighters made it to the final bell and it the fight went to the judges, who controversially scored the fight a split decision draw.

The first fight was one of the best of 2018 and the rematch now has the backing from an all-time great to be even better. Speaking to TMZ Sports George Foreman claimed Wilder vs. Fury II could be one of the best fights in boxing history. (H/T TMZ Sports)

“I think that Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury (2) would be one of the greatest fights of all time. Not just today, but of all time. If I see that fight, I would say that Deontay Wilder is moved up in status and whoever wins that fight will probably be one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.”

The heavyweight legend is right to expect an all-time great clash. Both fighters are at the peak of their powers and should provide fireworks in this eagerly anticipated rematch.

Whoever wins will be widely regarded as the top heavyweight in boxing. They will then look to unify the heavyweight titles with the winner of Andy Ruiz vs Anthony Joshua II.

Who do you think wins the rematch between Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury?

The highly-anticipated rematch between WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury has an official date — February 22.

According to ESPN, the rematch was signed months ago, but required both fighters to get past their respective opponents. Fury survived a huge cut near his eye to get past Otto Wallin in September while Wilder delivered an emphatic knockout on Luis Ortiz this past weekend.

As a result, the sequel is all but official with both sides confirming to ESPN that it will take place February 22 with the likely venue being the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

“We’re going to have an announcement before Christmas, but the fight is happening Feb. 22. You can go to sleep on that,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said.

Arum added that the pay-per-view event will be a joint-venture between ESPN and Fox.

“It will all get worked out in early December as far as the site, but the 22nd is the date,” Wilder’s manager Shelley Finkel said. “The site is not 100 percent set, but I’m not concerned about getting the site done. We’ll meet about that and about when to make the official announcement, when to have a press conference. These are things that still need to get done.”

Wilder and Fury notably met for the first time in December last year. Despite Fury outboxing the American for majority of the 12 rounds, Wilder’s two knockdowns during the fight eventually led to a controversial split decision draw.

In February, they can finally settle things once and for all.

Lineal boxing heavyweight champion Tyson Fury was not impressed by Deontay Wilder’s performance against Luis Ortiz.

Wilder retained his WBC heavyweight title following a seventh-round knockout of Ortiz in their rematch on Saturday night. However, the American was struggling for most of the fight as Ortiz was outboxing him throughout until the decisive punch.

It led many to once again wonder how Fury was able to get up from the shots he took from Wilder when they first met in December last year. Luckily, that seems to be the next fight for both fighters as Wilder is targeting a rematch with Fury in February.

However, “The Gypsy King” remains confident of getting the victory, especially based on his and Ortiz’s showing against Wilder:

“Wilder has nothing more than a punchers chance vs me, I’m gonna school even more than the first fight. ???????? #BUMCITY” Fury wrote on Sunday.

Similar to Ortiz, Fury outboxed Wilder for virtually 12 rounds in their WBC title fight last year. Wilder did land two knockdowns during the fight, but even then, many expected the Briton to come away with the win.

In the end, the bout was controversially scored a split decision draw. Hopefully, we get a more decisive result in 2020.
