Saturday was a good night for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for his brother Marsellos.

Wilder retained his WBC title following an emphatic seventh-round knockout of Luis Ortiz in their rematch. However, the American was getting outboxed for majority of the seven rounds. Until his fight-ending punch, he seemed to be unable to hit the trigger as some questioned if the night’s previous events were playing a role.

That’s because his brother Marsellos was brutally knocked out by Dustin Long in their cruiserweight bout earlier on the undercard. After taking control for most of the fight, the younger Wilder hit the canvas in the fourth round.

You can watch the knock out below:

It puts Marsellos at a 5-2 professional boxing record with both of his losses coming in the form of knockouts.

Luckily for the Wilder family, Deontay came away with the win later in the night as he remains undefeated with a 42-0-1 record. His next fight looks set to be another rematch against Tyson Fury slated for February.

Wilder also stated that once that’s done, he is targeting a title unification clash with the winner of the upcoming Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Anthony Joshua fight next month.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan had nothing but praise for WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder following the latter’s latest win.

Wilder retained his title following an emphatic seventh-round come-from-behind knockout of Luis Ortiz in their rematch on Saturday night. In the process, the American further consolidated his claim as one of the heaviest hitters in the sport’s history, especially given how he was being dominated for much of the fight.

Rogan heaped praise on “The Bronze Bomber” following the fight as he struggled to think of a harder puncher:

“My god what a puncher! @bronzebomber might be the biggest heavyweight puncher in the history of the sport. Beautifully set up, perfect execution and otherworldly power. What a great time for the heavyweight division.”

In a second post, Rogan posted a video of the knockout:

“I mean, seriously… who the f*ck has EVER punched harder than @bronzebomber? Couldn’t be a nicer guy, too. Just amazing.”

It’s hard to think of a harder puncher as Wilder has knocked down each and every one of his opponents. Of course, the only man to survive his power is lineal heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.

That looks set to be the next fight for both men as well.

Is Wilder the biggest puncher in heavyweight boxing history?

WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has a good idea of what his next two fights will be.

Wilder retained his title following a seventh-round knockout of Luis Ortiz in their rematch last night. It was all the more impressive considering the American was getting outclassed for majority of the fight until he landed a straight right than floored Ortiz with seconds remaining in the round.

He now has his sights set on another rematch with Tyson Fury. The unbeaten heavyweights fought in December last year in what was eventually ruled a controversial split decision draw. However, it now looks like everything is leading to a sequel in February.

After that, Wilder wants to unify the belts with the winner of Andy Ruiz vs. Anthony Joshua:

“Well my next (opponent), of course, we have Tyson Fury in a rematch next,” Wilder said after the fight (via BJ Penn). “When it’s settled, it’s set to be done in February. So we’ll see how that goes.

“And then after that, I’m looking for a unification bout. I want one champion, one face, one name, and he goes by the name of Deontay Wilder. The heavyweight division is too small to have so many belts lingering around. There should be just one champion. It’s too confusing for the fans, you know? And I think I’m the perfect man for that job.”

Wilder had been campaigning for a title unification fight for a while when Joshua was the unified champion. Maybe we could finally see it happen in 2020?

What did you think of Wilder’s performance last night? Do you think he’ll get through Fury?

The combat sports world has been left in awe of WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder’s power yet again.

Last night (Sat. November 23, 2019), Wilder put his strap up for grabs against Luis Ortiz in a heavyweight main event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a rematch of their initial bout from March of 2018, where Wilder, who battled through adversity and was nearly finished himself, pulled off a late TKO win in the 10th round.

In the rematch last night in Vegas, Wilder – although taking some crips shots from the Cuban – fought a much more calculated fight, picking his shots carefully. The gameplan paid off, as Wilder landed a clean right hand down the middle that planted Ortiz down to the floor. Ortiz, who was seemingly rendered unconscious for several seconds, was unable to get to his feet before the 10 count.

Wilder was declared the winner via knockout with seconds left to go in the seventh round. It was yet another amazing display of his once-in-a-lifetime power, and laid the groundwork for an eventual rematch with Tyson Fury in 2020. Wilder’s performance got the combat sports world buzzing, as they took to Twitter to react to the finish.

Here’s what they had to say.

What did you make of Wilder’s big knockout win over Ortiz?

Deontay Wilder has done it again. Wilder, the WBC heavyweight champion, rematched one of the toughest challenges of his boxing career tonight (Sat. November 23, 2019) in Las Vegas.

Wilder initially defeated Ortiz back in March of 2018 via 10th round TKO. However, this time around, in a very calculated fight from “The Bronze Bomber,” where he took his fair share of shots from Ortiz as well, Wilder again finished the fight. With seconds winding down in the seventh round, Wilder connected with a beautiful straight right hand down the pipe.

The shot immediately dropped Ortiz to the canvas, who was legitimately out cold for several seconds, before failing to get to his feet before the 10 count. It was an amazing finish from Wilder yet again, who continues to prove he is one of the most dangerous punchers boxing has ever seen.

Check out his spectacular finish of Ortiz here below.

What did you think about the Wilder knockout over Ortiz?
