Kevin Holland seems to have his sights set on a return to middleweight to avenge a loss to former foe Derek Brunson.

Holland picked up another big win over the weekend, submitting Tim Means at UFC Austin with a D’arce choke in the second round.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Holland said he wants the UFC to green light a jump back up to middleweight for a rematch with No. 4-ranked Brunson.

“I mean, if [Dana White lets] me fight at ’85 again, you give me three months of solid camp with Mindset Mike and me and Brunson have so many DMs that’ll sell the fight itself again. So that’s the only fight I really want back. I mean, I want every fight back, but yeah, I really don’t like Blonde Brunson.”

Currently, Holland finds himself on a two-fight win streak after submitting Means. Prior to that, he TKO’d Alex Oliveira at UFC 272 in March. His fight with Oliveira marked his return to welterweight, after racking up two-straight losses at middleweight, as well as a No Contest.

As for Brunson, he recently had a five-fight win streak snapped after being knocked out by Jared Cannonier in February. Part of Brunson’s five-fight win streak was a unanimous decision win over Holland in March of 2021.

Now that Holland has gotten himself back on the winning track, it will be interesting to see if the UFC grants him his desired rematch at 185 pounds.

What do you think about Kevin Holland wanting to return to middleweight to rematch Brunson? Let us know in the comments below!

Despite recent retirement talk, UFC middleweight veteran Derek Brunson isn’t done adding milestones to his career in the Octagon.

Brunson had hinted at potentially hanging up the gloves following a TKO loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC 271. He then walked back his previous comments just weeks later and is anticipating a return to the Octagon later this year.

The veteran Brunson is looking to earn at least one more accolade before calling it quits, as he revealed in a recent tweet.

“New goal: Most wins in the history of the ufc at middleweight,” Brunson said. “Michael Bisping has 16. I have 14.”

Bisping’s 16th win came against Dan Henderson in a rematch years in the making at UFC 204 in his first title defense. He earned the title by earning a first-round knockout over Luke Rockhold at UFC 199 on just weeks’ notice.

While Brunson hasn’t earned a UFC title like Bisping, he’s been a mainstay in the UFC middleweight title picture.

Before his loss to Cannonier, Brunson had been on a roll with five-straight victories. He most recently earned main event wins over the likes of Darren Till and Kevin Holland.

Brunson made his UFC debut back at UFC 155 in a win over Chris Leben. He would go on to earn wins over Uriah Hall, Lyoto Machida, and others along with competing against the likes of Yoel Romero and Israel Adesanya.

With most of the Top 10 middleweights already booked for fights, the fourth-ranked Brunson is holding out for his next opponent. He’ll look to move one step closer to surpassing Bisping for the most wins in the division’s history.

Do you predict Derek Brunson will surpass Michael Bisping?

UFC middleweight contender Derek Brunson had a rocky experience with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) this week.

Brunson, a UFC veteran, is coming off of a second-round TKO loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC 271. Before that, he was arguably one of the hottest middleweights in the UFC with five-straight victories over the likes of Darren Till and Kevin Holland.

Brunson has been in the UFC since his debut win over Chris Leben at UFC 155. While the sport and the UFC have equally grown in big ways since he first made the walk to the Octagon, he still thinks something needs to be done when it comes to USADA and its partnership with fighters.

In a recent series of tweets, Brunson detailed an incident in which USADA notified him of a failed check-in for a drug test.

“[USADA] has to be the worst testing program out,” Brunson said. “Imagine trying to handle business outside of the octagon and having to take quick flights to check on properties, having a family and other stuff going on, etc and them giving you failures because you forgot to update the glitchy app. There’s several athletes out here taking peds but no one failing. Get your gps feature back. Giving someone a failed whereabouts isn’t the same as someone failing a ped test.”

The USADA program with the UFC began in late 2015 to ensure safety and integrity not just with the promotion, but the sport in general.

Brunson went on to provide some clarity to the incident in a later tweet and said he could be on the verge of a significant penalty.

“Just to be clear. Usada gave me a whereabouts infraction because I didn’t update my location,” Brunson said. “Stating I have 2 whereabout infractions and 1 more could result in a 2 year suspension. They use to have gps tracking, maybe get back the system that worked for fighters!”

Brunson hasn’t violated USADA’s anti-doping policies since the program’s inception. Before USADA’s arrival, Brunson never tested positive for a banned substance.

Brunson currently doesn’t have a fight lined up at the moment after delaying his earlier retirement plans. In the meantime, he’ll look to resolve the issue he had with USADA and their check-in app.

Till: If Brunson Fight Was In The Gym, I’d Have Broken His Skull

UFC middleweight Darren Till believes he wasn’t himself at UFC Vegas 36, and under different circumstances, he says he’d have laid a beating on Derek Brunson.

Last September, Till was being pointed at as a potential challenger for reigning 185-pound champion Israel Adesanya down the line. A victory over Brunson in the UFC Vegas 36 headliner was expected to move him to within touching distance of a date with “The Last Stylebender.”

But spoiling the Englishman’s plans and continuing the unbeaten streak of his blonde iteration, Brunson dominated throughout before securing a third-round submission. While he moved on to face Jared Cannonier in a title eliminator last month, Till has remained on the sidelines since his losing effort inside the UFC Apex.

But despite appearing to be outclassed on the night, Till believes a clash with Brunson would go very differently under altered circumstances.

Till: Brunson Felt “So Slow”

Following the result, Till revealed he entered his fight with Brunson with a torn ACL. While that provided some context behind his lackluster performance, “The Gorilla” has gone into more detail about his mindset and motivation heading into the September event.

During a recent interview with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto, Till claimed he could barely recognize himself on fight night. Despite insisting the better man had his hand raised, the Liverpudlian believes in a different environment, he’d have left Brunson in a significantly worse state than the veteran left the Octagon in at UFC Vegas 36.

“It was tough to take, it was real tough to take. I’m not disrespecting Derek in any way, shape, or form. Blonde Derek Brunson was doing the job,” said Till. “But when I was in there with him, I didn’t feel myself and I felt sloppy, but he just felt so slow, even his takedowns and his striking.

“For me, if this was in the gym, I’d have [MUTED] broke his skull. I know he’s gonna see this and say, ‘No…’ But under different circumstances—I just couldn’t identify myself in there,” continued Till. “But at the same time, maybe, in my opinion, that night Derek was just the better fighter. I always say this, I never try and give excuses… I don’t wanna disrespect Derek. I still wanna give him his props. He beat me fair and square. The better man, the better fighter that night (won). But it was tough for me to take.”

While Brunson fell short of securing a title shot and is now potentially looking towards retirement after one last Octagon outing, Till is working hard ahead of his comeback. To return to 100% and begin realizing his potential, “The Gorilla” has turned to the help of a fighter on the opposite end of the spectrum when it comes to form.

For the past few weeks, Till has been training alongside Khamzat Chimaev at the Allstar Training center in Stockholm, Sweden. Having found his positivity and motivation again, the 29-year-old is targeting an ascent up the middleweight ladder, starting with a successful rebound later this year.

Who would you like to see Darren Till face when he returns to the Octagon?
