It looks like Floyd Mayweather Jr. won’t be able to weasel his way out of all of the charges that have been levied against him the past year.

Mayweather, 34, pleaded guilty today to reduced battery domestic violence and harassment charges in Las Vegas and was sentenced to 90 days in jail, 100 hours of community service and was given a $2,500 fine. He will begin serving his sentence on January 6 and will likely be released after serving 30 days if he behaves while behind bars.

Officially, he was given a six-month sentence, but the second half of the term will be suspended if he serves the first.

Thanks to the plea deal, the charges were reduced from felony counts of assault and threatening stemming from a 2010 incident where the boxing champ allegedly attacked his former girlfriend in front of their children before stealing all of their cell phones so they couldn’t call police prior to taking off from the home.

Prosecutor Lisa Luzaich urged the judge in the case to impose a sentence that would deter Mayweather from getting in trouble for some time as he seems to often avoid punishment for skirting the law.

“He just continually gets himself into trouble and he is able to get himself out of it as well,” she said. “Essentially it is because he is who he is and is able to get away with everything. The only thing that’s going to get this man’s attention is incarceration.

According to the judge, one of the deciding factors in handing down the sentence was the fact that “Money” admitted to the assault and that it took place in front of his terrified children who ran for help. Mayweather did not deny hitting and twisting the arm of the victim. The court heard that he also told her that he would make her “disappear.”

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is reporting that Mayweather is also expected to face the music next week for putting his hands on a security guard back in November 2010 in the gated community where he lives for ticketing some of his vehicles that were parked on the street even though he had been warned not to park them there several times in the past. Mayweather allegedly poked the officer repeatedly in the face while berating him for refusing to tear up the tickets.

Sources say he will plead “no contest” to charges of misdemeanor battery, but it’s unclear what kind of deal he has worked out with prosecutors in the case. The victim will likely get a settlement or launch a civil suit if he hasn’t already.

Brett Rogers Gets 60 Days in Jail for Assaulting Wife; Will Only Serve 14

(Sam’s Club will have to wait, since Rogers’ fighting services are still surprisingly in demand)

It looks like Brett Rogers got off easy for beating the shit out of assaulting his wife last summer.

According to TwinCities.com, the former Strikeforce heavyweight, who proclaimed his innocence and said he was confident he would be found innocent a few months back was sentenced to 60 days in jail for beating his wife, Tiuana back on June 28. During the argument that spilled out on the side lawn of their Apple Valley, MN home as shocked neighbors looked on,  he knocked out Tiuana’s tooth and choked her unconscious in between  barrages of vicious ground and pound that left her face bruised and battered.

Rogers will get credit for his 26 days served prior to his sentencing, even though some of those days were tacked on as a result of a breach of a court order that explicably stated that he was not to have contact with his family or to set foot in their residence. He will have to serve an additional 14 days, which, combined with the 26 already served, will account for 2/3 of his actual sentence.

The report goes on to say that “The Grim” is scheduled to fight on December 31, which means we could see him on DREAM’s annual NYE card. Yay.

According to sources we’ve spoken to, Rogers is also negotiating to rematch Fedor Emelianenko in Canada, possibly under the Impact MMA banner. We’re not sure why, since he still has very little chance of beating Fedor, but whatever. Maybe “The Last Emperor” can get some revenge for Tiuana. Now that’s something we’ll all watch.

Rogers Pleads Guilty to Assault and Has Other Charges Dropped As Part of Plea Deal in Domestic Abuse Case

(Brett “Crisco” Rogers. Ain’t nothin’ sticks to him.)

Well, as expected, Brett Rogers isn’t going to have to answer for the crimes he committed against his wife back in July.

The former Strikeforce heavyweight today reached a plea deal in his domestic assault case stemming from an incident that occurred in the summer in which neighbors and Rogers’ nine and 10-year-old daughters witnessed the hulking former Sam’s Club employee ground and pounding his wife in the backyard of their Apple Valley home. During the attack, his wife, Tiuana was momentarily rendered unconscious, had one of her teeth knocked out and was left bloodied and battered and with cauliflower ear as she fled the scene. Following the incident, Rogers was charged with felony third-degree assault, felony domestic assault by strangulation, and felony stalking as well as one gross misdemeanor count of endangerment of a child.

According to the Apple Valley Patch, as a result of the plea deal his attourney was able to strike with prosecutors, Rogers pled guilty today to a simple charge of third-degree assault — which is not a felony — and the rest of the charges were dropped.

Although it is possible that he could be sentenced to jail, his lawyer, Murad Mohammed doesn’t think his client will do time behind bars because of his clean criminal record and because Rogers “is owning up to what he did,” which is pretty much the opposite of what he did on Inside MMA two weeks ago when he told host Ron Kruck that the media was making a mountain out of a molehill.

“The situation that occurred, it happened and it was more of a misunderstanding when I look at it. The papers can write whatever but we still going through the legal process,” Rogers told Kruck with a straight face. “I’m confident that things are going to dropped, squared away and then we can move forward like we said. We’re a married couple, we have our ups and down just like everyone else.”

“Overall, Brett and I are pleased with the outcome,” said Mohammed. “I think it’s important for everyone, especially Brett’s wife and family, to know that Brett has taken ownership for everything that’s happened. It’s an unfortunate situation for the family and the end result is Brett not having a felony conviction resulting in him returning to his family and continuing to fight.”

A pre-sentence investigation will be take place prior to a scheduled November 30 sentencing hearing. In the meantime, Rogers remains free on his own recognizance and the $100,000 bond he posted back in July. His first fight since the incident and his subsequent firing by Strikeforce is scheduled for September 23 when he takes on UFC veteran Eddie Sanchez in the main event of Titan Fighting Championship 20 at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas.

Brett Rogers Will Be In Court Today to Try to Prove That His Wife, Neighbor and Kids Are All Lying About Him Being a Piece of Sh*t

(If you didn’t hit her, explain what happened to her eyebrows then, smart guy.)

Brett Rogers will appear in Dakota County District court today in Minnesota where he will attempt to explain to the jury in the case that everyone who saw him drunkenly beating the shit out of his wife is full of BS.

You may recall that “The Grim” was picked up at his Apple Valley home and charged with multiple domestic assault-related  felonies back in July after a neighbor called police after witnessing the heavy-handed former Strikeforce heavyweight using his wife’s face as a focus mitt.

According to the police report, the witness stated that he looked out his window and saw Rogers standing over top of his wife in their backyard punching her in the head repeatedly. After the attack, the neighbor says he saw the victim get up and that she was bleeding and missing a tooth. Rogers nine and 10-year-old daughters told another neightbor and officers who attended the scene that they witnessed the assault, which they said wasn’t a one-time occurrence, and their account of the attack matched the other witness’. When officers located Mrs. Rogers a short time later she denied the attack at first, but soon admitted what had happened.

When officers located Mrs. Rogers a short time later she denied the attack at first, but soon admitted what had happened.

Here is the account that she gave officers while being transported to a local hospital:

“Tiuana Rogers advised that she and her husband had been arguing that night. He became angry and grabbed her with both hands around her neck and squeezed. She was able to get away and went into the back yard. Her husband followed her and got her on the ground and began hitting her about her head and face, causing her to “black out.” By the time she arrived at the hospital, her ear had swollen and had a “cauliflower ear” look. Mrs. Rogers stated she did not want her husband charged with assault because she did not want to cause him trouble with his job.”

The report went on to state that Rogers’ daughters told the neighbor who was looking after them while their mother was in the hospital and their father was in jail that they were afraid to go home and that he had choked them too in the past. The day after the incident the investigating officer contacted the victim to meet with her to take photos of her injuries and was told that she would not comply with the request and that the assault was all her fault.

Rogers denied addressed the charges with a straight face a la Ike Turner during a recent episode of Inside MMA, referring to the altercation as a “misunderstanding” that was blown out of proportion by the media.

Does Tiuana look scared to talk to anyone else?

Here’s the transcription of the interview (courtesy of Fight Opinion):

MURAD MOHAMMAD (ATTORNEY): “He’s facing a 3rd degree assault charge. He’s facing a terroristic threats charge, as well as a harassment and stalking charge. These allegations are serious allegations and we take them very seriously but we’re looking forward to addressing them in court.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I was told not to go into details.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “We’d just rather move forward and be positive.”

BRETT ROGERS: “The situation that occurred, it happened and it was more of a misunderstanding when I look at it. The papers can write whatever but we still going through the legal process.”

RON KRUCK: “Has there ever been a violence between you two?”

BRETT ROGERS: “Never. Our records are clean.”

*Editor’s note: Translation – She’s never told on me yet.

RON KRUCK: “After six years of marriage and three children together, Brett & Tiuana are committed to working together through their problems.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I’m confident that things are going to dropped, squared away and then we can move forward like we said. We’re a married couple, we have our ups and down just like everyone else.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “He’s a family man and a lot of people don’t see that with MMA fighters. They’re so quick to judge.”

MURAD MOHAMMAD (ATTORNEY): “The State is going to have some significant proof issues. The alleged victim is Brett’s wife and this is a family that’s been together for a long time, they love each other, and Miss Rogers at this point appears not willing to testify against Brett.”

*Editor’s note: If Tiuana changes her story, she can be charged with perjury. If she chooses not to testify, the testimony of officers on the scene whom she admitted the assault to and witnesses can be used as evidence.

RON KRUCK: “Looking to put their legal issues behind them, the Rogers are focusing on the future.”

BRETT ROGERS: “I want to get back in there and fight and move forward from all the BS that’s been going on in my life.”

TIUANA ROGERS: “We just enjoy being around each other and we just going to continue loving each other, loving our family, and just focus on moving forward and being positive.”

BRETT ROGERS: “You know, it’s just a lesson learned. Life is a roller coaster and it’s definitely a lesson learned.”

Seriously, Brett? Nobody is going to buy that bullshit. Be a man for once and admit you fucked up and quit trying to make excuses for your behavior.

Rogers’ trial was set for Tuesday of this week, but a scheduling conflict with his attorney led to a warrant mistakenly being issued for his arrest for not attending court. The warrant was puled when Rogers’ lawyer contacted the Dakota County Sheriff’s Department to clear up the misunderstanding.

We’ll have more as the story develops today.

And Now He’s Fired and Nobody is Complaining…Brett Rogers

(“What do you mean this is the judge and jury?)

Well, it didn’t take long for the other shoe to drop for Brett Rogers.

Hours after being arrested on multiple felonious domestic assault-related charges, former tire-changer Brett Rogers may have to go back to Sam’s Club to beg for his job back after he gets out of jail as Zuffa has terminated his Strikeforce contract.

According to MMAJunkie, UFC president Dana White announced the firing following today’s UFC 132 press conference. Usually when charges like this are laid, we wait to pass judgment until the facts of the case come out, but considering the fact that Rogers kids have told police that he hit them as well and that they witnessed the entire assault on their mother, knowing that young children rarely lie to authority figures to GET their parents into trouble, the case seems pretty cut and dry.

Good on the UFC for cutting him loose. The promotion’s zero tolerance stance on domestic violence should be applauded.

While in school for Public Relations,  I devised a mock nation-wide campaign to be instituted by Zuffa in which fighters would make TV, radio and public service announcements in the vein of the “Got Milk” campaign, speaking out against bullying and domestic violence. Maybe now is the time to start such an initiative.

In the meantime, maybe they can put “The Grim Wife Beater” in a cell with War Machine for a few hours wearing a straight jacket so he can get his just desserts.
