Former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz thinks Daniel Cormier doesn’t prepare correctly when he calls UFC fight cards.

Cruz is slated to face Pedro Munhoz in a very important bantamweight matchup at UFC 269, but he’s also become one of the most prominent commentators in the UFC. In addition to being a broadcast analyst, he also helps with ESPN programming and fight breakdowns for the network.

Cruz has never been one to give his full, honest opinions about his fighting and broadcast colleagues. For Cruz, friendship doesn’t mean that you’re the exception to criticism.

That includes Cormier, who will be on the call with Joe Rogan and Jon Anik this weekend. During his UFC 269 pre-fight press conference, Cruz took shots at Cormier’s commentary and admitted that he tries to tune it out.

“When it comes to DC, I usually mute it,” Cruz said. “I love DC, he’s my friend, but to me, from my experience, he doesn’t do the homework. He wants to get in and out, get the job done, make his money. And I think he cares about us, but it’s just different. He doesn’t do the preparation from my experience. He might now. I’m hoping he watches some film this time on my fight so he knows what I’m doing and why I’m doing it. But I’m not gonna hold my breath on that, that’s for sure.”

Dominick Cruz Looks To Prove He Belongs In The Bantamweight Title Picture

Cruz later admitted that while he isn’t perfect, he and Bisping put in the work necessary to bring their full perspective to the table.

It’ll be interesting to hear what Cormier has to say in response to Cruz. The two of them seem to have a cordial relationship, but surely Cormier can’t be too pleased to hear such takes.

Dominick Cruz believes that suffering defeat is a part of the sport and anyone who has managed to retire without suffering a loss probably hasn’t pushed themselves hard enough.

During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Cruz questioned if anyone who leaves the sport with an undefeated record is actually that or just someone who hasn’t truly tested themselves, he said.

“Any athlete who left the sport undefeated, I question: ‘Are you really undefeated, or did you not challenge yourself as hard as you could have? And if you did, what would it look like on the other side?’”

Dominick Cruz Appears To Be Talking About Khabib Nurmagomedov

Cruz wouldn’t mention him by name, but it seems obvious that he is talking about Khabib Nurmagomedov.

‘The Eagle’ made three successful defences of his lightweight title before retiring at the age of 32 with a perfect 29-0 record.

“I get it, you’re undefeated — but like, are you undefeated, or could you have just pushed a little harder to get that next level and get that loss? And then come back and reclaim the loss with a win and see what your next level, your next evolution in life is? It’s not all about just winning and losing and being perfect. Nothing in life is that.”

“You can’t dodge loss. You can’t dodge pain. You can’t dodge any of it. So what’s the point? You might as well just go right through it. The question is, when it does happen, what are you going to do with it? Are you going to just give up and say I’m retired and quit, or are you going to get back on the horse and see what else you can be?”

Cruz appreciates the fact he’s had to overcome so much including losses to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

“I was fortunate enough to have that experience, and I’m still on that ride, and let’s see what comes next,” Cruz said.

Do you agree with Dominick Cruz? Do you question fighters who walk away from MMA with an undefeated record?

‘Suga’ Sean O’Malley has come out and claimed that Dominick Cruz turned down the potential fight that could have happened at UFC 269.

The rumors between the two possibly meeting up were flying before both fighters took fights against different fighters on the same card. Dominick Cruz will be fighting against Pedro Munhoz, while O’Malley will be fighting Raulian Paiva. There’s only one big difference between the two fights. O’Malley will be fighting on the main card while Cruz will be fighting on the prelims.

“I want to address the Dominick Cruz stuff first and I don’t want to be mean because he’s clearly slowing down,” O’Malley said (h/t Sportskeeda). “Not physically maybe, but mentally he said he doesn’t want that fight because he wants to fight someone higher up, so therefore he turned the fight down. I asked for that fight, we asked for that fight for a while. We asked Sean Shelby, he turned it down. I didn’t listen to the interview but it’s just a weird thing to say. He said something to where I’m like, ‘Dude, you need to learn from the daddy’ because I’m above you on the card.”

O’Malley makes a compelling case that Cruz may have lost out on a much bigger fight with ‘Suga’, but the risk may not have been worth it in ‘The Dominators’ eyes. O’Malley does have some of the best striking in the entire bantamweight division. O’Malley is coming off a record-breaking night against Khris Moutinho who filled in on a week’s notice. Cruz is also coming off a split decision win against Casey Kenney. It was Cruz’s first win since 2016.

Do you think we’ll ever see Sean O’Malley vs. Dominick Cruz?

Sean O’Malley believes Dominick Cruz needs to learn from him about how to approach taking fights.

After O’Malley’s UFC 264 TKO win over Kris Moutinho, he called out several fighters, including Cruz. The hope was the fight would come to fruition, but according to “Suga,” the former bantamweight champ turned him down and opted to fight Pedro Munhoz instead due to the fact that he is higher ranked.

However, for O’Malley, he says Cruz needs to learn something from him because he is now on the pay-per-view at UFC 269 while Cruz is on the prelims.

“I want to address the Dominick Cruz stuff first and I don’t want to be mean because he’s clearly slowing down,” O’Malley said on his YouTube channel (via Sportskeeda). “Not physically maybe, but mentally… he said he doesn’t want that fight because he wants to fight someone higher up, so therefore he turned the fight down. I asked that fight, we asked for that fight for a while. We asked Sean Shelby, he turned it down… I didn’t listen to the interview but it’s just a weird thing to say. At UFC 269, O’Malley will face Raulian Paiva, who is in the rankings. Paiva is a former flyweight who has moved up to bantamweight and coming off a win over Kyler Phillips, who is O’Malley’s teammate.

O’Malley is currently on a two-fight winning streak as prior to beating Moutinho, he knocked out Thomas Almeida. In the fight before, the fan-favorite suffered a first-round TKO loss to Marlon Vera in a fight he hurt his ankle in.

What do you make of Sean O’Malley’s advice to Dominick Cruz after the UFC 269 bout order was revealed?

Cruz Doesn’t Understand Why The Media Promotes “Troll” Cejudo

Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz doesn’t understand why the media is entertaining Henry Cejudo’s hints at a return to the Octagon.

Cejudo is widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the promotion’s history. After back-to-back losses to Joseph Benavidez and Demetrious Johnson in 2016, “Triple C” built a memorable six-fight win streak that included championship crownings at both flyweight and bantamweight.

After dethroning “Mighty Mouse” in their rematch at UFC 227, Cejudo went on to defend the 125-pound belt against former 135-pound king TJ Dillashaw, become a simultaneous two-division champ with a TKO victory over Marlon Moraes, and defend his bantamweight gold against Cruz, who’s in the conversation for the division’s greatest of all time.

To the surprise of most, Cejudo chose to hang up his gloves following his win against “The Dominator” last May. Not even two years later, having consistently teased a return ever since UFC 249, talks of a Cejudo comeback have intensified. In the aftermath of Alexander Volkanovski’s title defense against Brian Ortega at UFC 266, “The Messenger” exchanged words with the champ over social media, and suggested he could come out of retirement in an attempt to become the first fighter to have won championships in three UFC divisions.

With Volkanovski seemingly willing to face Cejudo, and Ali Abdelaziz’s admission that the 34-year-old wants to commit to more than just a one-and-done return, it seems more likely than ever that we’ll see “Triple C” back in action.

Despite that, Dominick Cruz doesn’t believe Cejudo’s words should be covered until his comeback is set in stone. Speaking during a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour, the former bantamweight champ accused publications like ESPN of promoting the comments and opinions of a retired “troll” who can’t be held accountable for what he says.

“I think that, if I’m being honest, the fact that we’re even talking about somebody who’s retired, ESPN’s promoting people who’ve retired, I don’t understand it. It makes no sense to me. You’re retired… Is he in the testing pool? So he’s retired. One, if he’s not in the testing pool, who knows what that means, right. Two, if you’re retired, then there’s no vulnerability, you can say whatever you want and not be held accountable, ever. There’s no accountability held because you retired.

“So, you can run around being all these retired athletes, I don’t even need to say their names, and say how great you are and say all this because there’s nothing, there’s no way to make you pay for your words, you’re basically a troll… you’re a keyboard warrior now.”

Despite acknowledging Cejudo’s achievements in the sport prior to his retirement, Cruz suggested that if the former double champion speaks ill of other fighters and doesn’t return, it’s simply for the purpose of building a clout, which he sees as “weakness.”

“I hear that you did amazing things while you were in the sport, I respect that, okay. I’m not here to botch what you’ve already done. But you’re done. When you get back in the testing pool, then I believe ESPN and all these people should be talking to these athletes. But why are we promoting people who have nothing, there’s nothing that they’re gonna pay for for what they say… it’s not fair.

“If I talk, I gotta pay for it. They’re gonna put me against so and so, they’re gonna botch my pay or they’re gonna, who knows what, right. But when they talk, when these retired athletes talk about other fighters, what are they doing? They’re only building their clout off the back of active athletes who are putting themselves on the line. That’s weakness at it’s finest.”

Despite showing respect to each other when they clashed last year, it seems Cejudo’s recent antics haven’t been in line with the type of conduct Cruz agrees with.

Since his loss to “Triple C,” Cruz has looked to make his way back up the bantamweight ladder. That conquest began against Casey Kenney at UFC 259. Having got past him via a split decision, Cruz will fight further up the rankings in his next outing. He’s set to meet entertaining contender Pedro Munhoz at UFC 269 on December 11.

If Cruz continues his run of form and Cejudo re-enters the fray, perhaps a rematch between the pair will go down later down the line, one without Keith Petersen refereeing if Cruz has any input on the matter…

Do you agree with Dominick Cruz? Should Henry Cejudo’s interactions with active fighters be covered while he’s retired?

Dominick Cruz Sean O'Malley

Dominick Cruz vs. Sean O’Malley had previously been rumored as the next targeted fight for both men at 135 pounds, but both fighters ended up booking different opponents. O’Malley hinted at a potential fight with Cruz earlier this summer, but negotiations never materialized.

Now, Cruz completely doubts that O’Malley was being genuine when he hinted at wanting a fight with him.

Cruz is in the middle of preparation for his UFC return later this year, against Pedro Munhoz at UFC 269. Coincidentally, O’Malley will be on the same exact card to end the year against Raulian Paiva.

The bantamweight division continues to be one of the most exciting in the UFC, but Cruz doesn’t think that an O’Malley fight could be in the cards anytime soon.

UFC bantamweights Dominick Cruz and Sean O’Malley, once rumored to be targeted opponents, will both return at UFC 269

“I have had a couple of talks with [Sean] Shelby about why is this [a fight with Sean O’Malley] is being thrown out there but I think it was just O’Malley throwing it out to media to see what could be stirred up and made,” Cruz said during a recent interview with Ariel Helwani. I know it’s as simple as sitting in front of Sean Shelby man-to-man, eye-to-eye, being clear, being concise, telling him what you want and he’ll probably give it to you. It’s not that hard to get through to Sean Shelby.”

“I don’t think Shelby would have had a problem with giving him me if O’Malley would have asked him for it.”

O’Malley has been criticized during his young UFC career for not taking fights with ranked opponents, ever since he fell to the 14th-ranked contender Marlon Vera at UFC 252.

O’Malley defeated Kris Moutinho at UFC 264 earlier this year, while Cruz got back in the win column against Casey Kenney at UFC 259. The two could potentially be on a collision course if both keeping moving up the bantamweight ranks.

Do you think we’ll ever see a Dominick Cruz vs. Sean O’Malley fight?
