Corey Sandhagen will no longer be taking part at UFC Raleigh on January 25.

Sandhagen was originally booked to welcome Frankie Edgar into the bantamweight division in a co-main event spot. However, Edgar stepped in on short notice to face The Korean Zombie at UFC Busan this past weekend.

“The Answer” was initially hoping to still face Sandhagen next month, but it was always unlikely — especially following Zombie’s dominant first-round TKO win over Edgar.

Sandhagen was notably upset at Edgar taking the fight but was still hoping to compete at UFC Raleigh. But that’s no longer the case according to MMA DNA.

Sandhagen now hopes to fight in March or April. He previously expressed an interest in facing former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and he remains in his radar.

However, he is also targeting former title challenger Marlon Moraes who is coming off a contested split decision win over Jose Aldo at UFC 245 earlier this month.

It will be interesting to see how things transpire in what is becoming a shark tank of a bantamweight division with so many top contenders. Sandhagen is certainly one of them as he remains undefeated in the UFC with a 5-0 record.

Cory Sandhagen did not have the best last couple of days.

After being scheduled to face Frankie Edgar in the co-main event of UFC Raleigh next month, the fight is now seemingly off. That’s because Edgar is stepping in to face the Korean Zombie in the UFC Busan headliner on December 21.

There is talk of him competing against Sandhagen regardless, even though UFC Raleigh takes place January 25. In reality, it is unlikely so for now, Sandhagen is without a fight.

The young prospect feels he has done enough to get a big fight next. Given the circumstances, he feels he should still face Edgar or at the very least, former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz:

“I think I’ve kind of earned my spot in being able to be like, there’s a couple of guys who I want to fight,” Sandhagen told MMA Junkie (via BJ Penn). “(No. 2-ranked bantamweight) Aljamain Sterling’s out right now so I’m not even going to bother calling Aljamain out because he just had surgery so it doesn’t make any sense.

“In my head, it’s gotta be either Frankie or Cruz. I think that’s what I’ve earned at this point, taking tough fights. So that’s what I feel like I’ve earned. If it’s Frankie at a later date, okay. If it’s Cruz at a later date, okay. It doesn’t matter to me, that’s just what I would like.”

Sandhagen has certainly earned it. He is 5-0 with the promotion and coming off big wins over John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao.

In a perfect world, Edgar comes out unscathed from UFC Busan and fights him next. But again, it’s highly unlikely:

“I’m not sure,” Sandhagen added of fighting Edgar next month. “I just can’t imagine a scenario where Frankie is going to come out (of the Jung fight) unscathed and I don’t want to be holding my breath for that amount of time, so I don’t know.

“We’ll work it out with the agent, but I don’t know.”
