UFC president Dana White has fired back at those who have a problem with Conor McGregor being booked to fight despite a couple of sexual assault accusations coming out of Ireland.

McGregor will headline the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, January 18, 2020. The Irishman returns at 170 pounds against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone. Speaking in an interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Kevin Iole, White was asked about the criticism he has received for booking McGregor to fight despite the sexual assault allegations.

White said he didn’t even know there was criticism for the booking, and noted that the allegations against McGregor are only just allegations, and McGregor hasn’t been charged with anything. He won’t stop someone from making a living based solely on accusations. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I didn’t even know (about the criticism),” White said. “He hasn’t been charged with anything. You can’t accuse somebody and stop them from making a living when they haven’t even been charged of anything.

“Conor McGregor has made a lot of bad decisions in the past several years. He has paid for it. He walked into court and plead guilty to punching that guy in the face in Ireland. He paid for the slapping of the phone out of the thing. He attacked the bus and paid for that.”

White indicated he wasn’t sure where things stood in regards to the sexual assault allegations against McGregor, but noted, had he been charged with something, McGregor probably wouldn’t be fighting.

“He’s obviously done some things,” White said. “He’s been charged and paid and done everything he’s supposed to do. These other things, first of all I don’t even know. Has it said that he’s the guy that’s being accused?

“Listen, if he was being charged with something right now. It would be a different story. The New York Times have wrote those stories, but there are no other stories out there about Conor McGregor.”

What do you make of White’s response to the criticism of booking McGregor to fight despite sexual assault accusations?

Duke Roufus claims that he’ll be doing some work with Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone ahead of his highly-anticipated fight with Conor McGregor in January.

McGregor and Cerrone headline the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18. Speaking during the “Brawls Deep” segment of “The Luke Thomas Show,” Roufus divulged he’s scheduled to work with Cerrone, who’s good friends with his students Paul Felder and Anthony Pettis, later this month ahead of his fight with the Irishman. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“Kind of interesting note, I’ll switch gears, Paul Felder and Anthony [Pettis], you know they’re friends with Cowboy Cerrone, so I’m going to be getting a visit right after Christmas from Cowboy. He’s coming out to do a little training with us, and I’m pretty excited about it actually.”

McGregor and Cerrone will be matching up at 155 pounds. It’s a very interesting decision for McGregor, who has made it clear he wants to get back to the 155 pound-title and a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, some assume he’s now set on chasing a fight with Jorge Masvidal at welterweight.

If McGregor does want a fight with Nurmagomedov next, UFC president Dana White has suggested a win over Cerrone, despite it being at 170 pounds, could be enough.

What do you think about Roufus working with Cerrone ahead of his fight with McGregor?

Justin Gaethje Says McGregor Fighting At Welterweight Takes Him Out Of Lightweight Title Picture

Conor McGregor’s next fight, surprisingly, will not take place at 155 pounds. Instead, McGregor will take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at welterweight in the main event of UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18. This is good news to top-ranked 155-pound competitor Justin Gaethje, who says […]

This is good news to top-ranked 155-pound competitor Justin Gaethje, who says the welterweight aspect of the bout now takes McGregor out of the lightweight title picture, as he explained during an interview on “The Luke Thomas Show.” (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I mean, it’s a freak show man. I don’t know what to make of it,” Gaethje said. “For me, I think it’s good, it takes [McGregor] out of the picture. It kind of clears the path to what needs to happen.

“Fighting at 170… I don’t know how in his mind he can say ‘I’ll fight in 170 and then fight for the world title next.’ I’d like to think it is because he doesn’t want to fight me, but I don’t think I’m that scary. I don’t understand it.”

If McGregor wants another shot at the lightweight title, Gaethje says the Irishman needs to beat someone at 155 pounds.

“If he wants to fight for a world title, he has to get another win in the lightweight division,” Gaethje said.

“I’m sure he knows that he’s gonna put pressure on Dana [White] and the UFC to give him a title fight after… If he beats Cowboy at 170. Or maybe he’ll fight someone else at 170, I’m not sure what he’s doing.”

McGregor will be making his highly-anticipated Octagon return against the fan-favorite Cerrone, who is on a two-fight losing streak at the moment. Recently, top-ranked lightweight Tony Ferguson joined “The Ariel Helwani MMA Show” to offer his take on the matchup between McGregor and Cerrone.

Ferguson believes the matchup should be an exciting one, but is hoping for a double knockout nonetheless. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I have to say if Cerrone kicks him to the chops, McGregor is going to fall like a ton of bricks,” Ferguson said. “But, like I always say, I’m going to go for a double knockout. I think they are going to go in there guns blazing. I think it is going to be a good fight, I can’t wait to watch it.”

As for Ferguson, he is preparing to challenge for the 155-pound title. He’ll meet undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 18 from Brooklyn. The fight has been made four times before, each time the fight being scrapped due to injury. Now, hopefully, the fifth time is the charm.

Conor McGregor and Donald Cerrone will officially headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18.

The fight will be McGregor’s first since October of 2018 when he was submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov. He’ll take on Cerrone, who is on a two-fight losing streak after a pair of TKOs to Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson. However, perhaps even more interesting, is the fact that the fight will take place at welterweight instead of lightweight.

McGregor is seeking a return to the lightweight title, as he wants a rematch with Nurmagomedov. Instead, he’ll opt to face Cerrone at 170 pounds. Recently, McGregor took to Twitter to react to the news of his fight with Cerrone becoming official. Here’s what he had to say.

“Thank me, belatedly”

Cerrone then took to his Instagram account shortly after, listing out his decorated resume of accomplishments in the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA).

“Let this Soak in! This will be my 51st MMA fight and I plan to add new numbers to all these list come January 18. I hold the all-time UFC record for wins with 23. I hold the all-time UFC record for finishes with 16. I hold the all-time UFC record for post-fight bonus awards with 18. I hold the all-time UFC record in knockdowns with 20. I hold the all-time UFC record with seven knockouts via kicks.”

McGregor responded to Cerrone’s post in the comments, having this to say.

“Good man, Donald, enjoy the Christmas dinner. Happy holidays to you and the family, from the McGregor’s here in Ireland. See you in 20/20 with bullseye vision.”

While things are being kept respectful between the pair, for now, ESPN’s Ariel Helwani spoke to Cerrone’s manager recently, who said “Cowboy” is grateful to “finally” get his hands on the Irishman.

“Spoke to Donald Cerrone’s manager Josh Jones earlier. He said he got one text from Cerrone today: “Finally, I get my hands on him.””

Conor McGregor will finally make his highly-anticipated return to the UFC’s Octagon in January.

The Las Vegas-based mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion has announced that McGregor will take on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at the upcoming UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) event on January 18 from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. In an interesting twist, the fight will be taking place at welterweight, rather than McGregor’s former championship weight class of 155 pounds, a division in which he seeks a rematch with rival and current division champ Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Per BetMGM.com, McGregor is a fairly sizable favorite for the matchup, coming in at a -278 favorite, with Cerrone listed as a +200 underdog. For example, if you bet $100 on Cerrone, you’ll receive a payout of $300 should he win. A $100 wager on McGregor will result in a $136 payout.

McGregor hasn’t fought since his October 2018 loss to Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas. “The Eagle” pretty much dominated the matchup for the most part, before submitting the Irishman in the fourth round. It marked only the second loss of McGregor’s run with the UFC. He’ll look to get back on the winning track against Cerrone, who is on a two-fight losing streak after back-to-back TKO losses to Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje at lightweight.

Now, he’ll jump back up to 170 pounds to welcome back the biggest star MMA has ever seen in January.

What do you think about McGregor opening up as the betting favorite over Cerrone for January?
