Everyone is excited about the return of Conor McGregor later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020), who takes on Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the main event of UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV).

Even UFC middleweight contender Darren Till is excited for the matchup, as he recently took to Twitter to offer his thoughts on the matchup. Till broke the fight down before predicting an early TKO win for “The Notorious One” when it’s all said and done.

“I can not fu*king wait for Conor X Cowboy next week. Feels like the old Conor is back. Both are right up for this. Cowboy’s camp have more to be concerned with than just Conor’s left hand though. As a southpaw it’s not the left hand. It’s the set ups from the left hand, the spinning kicks, the faints, angles, etc… It all draws you onto that left hand. Also that’s just not what he brings!

“You don’t beat who he beat by just having a left hand. If I would have taken my own advice above against [Jorge] Masvidal rather than just coming out to try to stream roll him. But he done me fair and good! Anyways a fu*king tear up next week! I’ve got Conor 1st round TKO, feel like the occasion might be too much for Cowboy! But that’s just my opinion, Cowboy’s been around a lot longer than me and knows a hell of a lot more.”

McGregor and Cerrone will fight at 170 pounds, however, UFC president Dana White has made it clear that, should McGregor win, he’ll likely challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title in a rematch from their initial fight in October of 2018. White has described the matchup as a lightweight fight in which neither man is cutting weight.

What do you think about Till predicting an early TKO win for McGregor? Do you agree?

Justin Gaethje Praying ‘Cowboy’ Knocks Out Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is set to make his Octagon return later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020) against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone in the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) main event, and Justin Gaethje is hoping to see the Irishman fall.

Speaking on “MMA Tonight” on Sirius XM recently, Gaethje was asked for a prediction for McGregor vs. Cerrone. While Gaethje is leaning towards picking McGregor, he noted he’s praying that it’s Cerrone who comes out on top with a knockout win. (H/T BJPenn.com)

“I’m sure I would lean towards Conor, you know distance management and timing are super, super valuable, and that’s what I think was the big key to my success in that fight [my last fight against Cowboy] and I think that’s going to be a factor in this fight. But I will pray many times over that Cowboy knocks him out.”

If McGregor does defeat Cerrone, however, he’ll likely get the next shot at the 155-pound title. Of course, he’ll have to wait for Khabib Nurmagomedov to defend his lightweight strap against Tony Ferguson on April 18. Because of this, whether McGregor wins or loses, Gaethje doesn’t think McGregor’s next fight will be for the title.

“Dude, there’s so much that can happen between now and then,” Gaethje said. “If Conor McGregor beats Cowboy Cerrone, he’s not going to get a title shot off that. He’s going to probably try and fight Jorge Masvidal and if he beats Jorge Masvidal, then he might be able to get the title shot at 155, but his next fight after Cowboy is not going to be the 155-pound title shot because that’s happening April 18.”

What do you think about Gaethje’s hope that McGregor gets knocked out by Cerrone?

Jorge Masvidal’s Manager Calls Conor McGregor Fight ‘No-Brainer’ If McGregor Beats ‘Cowboy’

Ever since Jorge Masvidal established himself as one of the UFC’s biggest stars in 2019, a potential fight with Conor McGregor has been whispered about amongst the mixed martial arts (MMA) community.

The time for such a fight could not be more perfect. Currently, McGregor is set to face Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246 in the pay-per-view’s (PPV) main event. Should McGregor win the contest, which will take place at 170 pounds, it opens the door for a massive money fight between “Notorious” and “Gamebred.”

Masvidal has made it clear in the past that he truly believes he’d run through McGregor inside the Octagon. Masvidal’s manager, Abe Kawa, tells BJPenn.com that, if McGregor does beat Cerrone on January 18, a fight between the Irishman and his client is a “no-brainer.”

“I’d say, for him, after this fight with Nate, he’s really good in terms of finances right now,” Kawa said. “But one thing that’s not gonna change about him is that he’s a prize fighter. He’s a guy that wants the biggest prizes that he can possibly get. You’ve heard him in many, many interviews: I would think that, just based what’s out there right now, we’ve got to wait to see if Conor [McGregor] wins.

“If Conor wins, I think that’s a fight that would be interesting. I’m more curious to see what Conor’s body looks like at 170 over anything else because, let’s face it, if Conor goes up to fight ‘Cowboy’ and it’s a terrible fight — and I don’t foresee that happening at all, Conor’s never been in a terrible fight — but if it is a terrible fight, would Conor really be what we want next?

“I don’t know. If Conor goes out there and does what Conor does than I think that’s a no-brainer. If Conor loses, that’s where I think things get interesting.”

Masvidal comes off a spectacular 2019 run, recording three victories by way of finish, scoring the fastest knockout in UFC history at five seconds, and being dubbed the UFC’s BMF Champion. The latter accomplishment seems to have enticed McGregor enough to want to fight Masvidal if everything falls into place in 2020.

What do you think about a potential fight between Masvidal and McGregor down the road?

Donald Cerrone Coach: Conor McGregor Only Has A Left Hand

Donald Cerrone will welcome Conor McGregor back to the Octagon later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020) in the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) main event. Donald Cerrone will welcome Conor McGregor back to the Octagon later this month (Sat. January 18, 2020) in the UFC 246 pay-per-view (PPV) main event. The action goes down from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Recently, Cerrone’s head coach, Jafari Vanier, spoke on Cerrone’s documentary-series “More than a Cowboy” to preview the upcoming matchup. During the conversation, Vanier offered his take on McGregor’s skillset inside the Octagon. Vanier says McGregor only really has a left hand in his arsenal that can put fighters down, as we don’t see McGregor do too much damage on the ground or with jiu-jitsu. (H/T MMA Junkie)

“If I were to look at the two, he’s got a lot more to worry about than we do,” said Vanier. “We’ve got multiple submission victories, head-kick knockout victories, we’ve got decisions. He just has a left hand. You don’t see Conor submitting anybody, you don’t even see the guy going on the ground – very rare, right? Not saying we’re going to force the fight to the ground, but what I’m saying is he’s got a lot more to worry about than we do.”

As far as the left-hand goes, Vanier believes Cerrone only needs to worry about it for about a round and a half. After that, Vanier believes McGregor tends to fade in his fights, and not too much pop is left in that left-hand shot.

“We just have to worry about a left hand in that first round – him coming out on fire,” Vanier said. “You’ve never really seen ‘Cowboy’ ever gas. After the first round and a half for Conor, (he) fades. There’s not a lot of pop in that left hand any more, footwork goes down, his hands are heavy.

“So I mean these are all things that you watch and see, so these are no secrets to what’s going on. So for us, it’s just a matter of capitalizing on those things, making sure we’re very aware, eyes open in that first round, stay away from that left hand. We stay away from that left hand, it’s going to be a short night.”

What do you make of Cerrone’s coach’s assessment of McGregor? Who are you picking to win the UFC 246 main event?

Conor McGregor’s return to the Octagon is nearing, and as always, longtime head coach John Kavanagh will be in his corner.

As training camp winds down and fight night inches closer, Kavanagh recently took to Twitter to provide an update on his fighter. Kavanagh claims he’s traveling to Vegas with McGregor soon after wrapping up their last day of sparring, and also threw in that “Notorious” looks to be the “best I’ve seen him.” Something he didn’t think possible six months ago.

“Jan 1st, last heavy spar today before going to Vegas. Can honestly say this is the best i’ve seen him and i wasn’t sure that was possible to do 6 months ago. You guys are in for a real treat, i’m just glad to have a good seat!”

McGregor will headline UFC 246 on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 18. There, he jumps up to welterweight yet again to face off against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

UFC president Dana White has described the contest as a lightweight fight in which neither man is cutting weight. If McGregor emerges victorious, the UFC boss has heavily pushed that McGregor is next in line for the 155-pound title, setting up a rematch with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

What are you expecting from McGregor in his return later this month?
