It’s not every day that we see someone finish an opponent twice in the same fight, but that appeared to be what we saw during the UFC Tampa prelims in Joel Álvarez’s win over Drakkar Klose.
The Spaniard landed a strong combination that stumbled Klose backward toward the fence. Alvarez then appeared to slump Klose with a jumping knee.
The flashy striker seemed to be nearing a guillotine choke as he landed follow-up shots on Klose, who was evidently already out. The referee then jumped in to declare Álvarez the winner.
After UFC Tampa, Álvarez has now won three straight and is 7-2 in the Octagon, with one of his losses coming against upcoming lightweight title challenger Arman Tsarukyan. He last fought in August, defeating Elves Brener.
Klose, meanwhile, sees a four-fight win streak snapped with this loss. He had most recently been in action at UFC 301 earlier this year, defeating Joaquim Silva.

Drakkar Klose knocked his UFC Austin opponent Joe Solecki out cold with a brutal slam in the opening round.
Things looked rough for Klose in the early going of the bout as Solecki landed an early takedown. With Klose looking to fight his way back up, Solecki was able to snatch Klose’s arm, teasing a potential armbar. In an attempt to escape, Klose went old school by muscling Solecki up off the ground and slamming him back down directly onto the side of his face.
The impact immediately rendered Solecki unconscious, forcing the referee to step in and call for the stoppage in what will undoubtedly become an immediate contender for Knockout of the Year.
Official Result: Drakkar Close def. Joe Solecki via KO (slam) at 1:41 of Round 1.

Former Olympian turned mixed martial artist Mark O. Madsen called out Paddy Pimblett following the Liverpudlian’s second-round submission of Jordan Leavitt at UFC London but instead got the attention of Drakkar Close.
Following Pimblett’s entertaining return to the O2 Arena, the Olympian attempted to capitalize on the moment, calling out ‘The Baddy’ on Twitter.
“Great performance by the Paddy the Fatty #UFCLondon Pick any date and I’m ready #weak #chin #weak #wrestling @AliAbdelaziz00”
Madsen’s tweet gained some attention, but it wasn’t from Paddy Pimblett. It was from fellow wrestler Drakkar Klose who questioned why Madsen was calling out Paddy Pimblett when Klose had called out ‘The Olympian’ twice with seemingly no response.
“Why you trying to fight a kid. I called you out twice but got [crickets]”
‘The Olympian’ Responds to Klose Following Callout of Paddy Pimblett
Madsen was quick to reply to Klose’s claim saying that he accepted the fight, but Klose opted to face Rafa Garcia at UFC 277 on Saturday.
“Why are you fighting Garcia. I accepted the fight @drakkarklose and you pulled out!”
“if you accepted the fight, where was the contract? I’m the one on the card. Next time make Denmark proud and don’t duck call-outs, be a man. #thatstwice”
Madsen again responded to Klose, inviting the Michigan native to stop by the gym anytime.
“You’re 5 min away. Stop by the gym anytime. Or are you too afraid of my coaches. @TinoDeFranco @allinmma @HenryCejudo @CPTdasAmericas
Madsen last appeared at UFC 273 in April. He defeated Vinc Pichel to earn his fourth straight win under the UFC banner and his 12th straight victory overall to remain undefeated in his mixed martial arts career. Madsen earned an Olympic silver medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Beijing while competing in the Greco-Roman 75kg class.

After an extended layout, UFC lightweight Drakkar Klose has returned in an emphatic fashion. The UFC 155lb veteran finished Brandon Jenkins in the second round after a two year UFC layoff.
Drakkar Klose had been put out of action for an extended period of time after suffering an injury after being shoved by Jeremy Stephens during the weigh-in for their scheduled fight. However, he proved he was back with bad intentions, with one of the most clinical performances in his UFC career to date.
Klose dominated Jenkins in round one, coming close to finishing his opponents in multiple occasions. Credit to Jenkins’ toughness as he managed to make it to the second. However, Klose came out with a vengeance, landing a brutal uppercut that had Jenkins staggering. Klose quickly finished the job, landing brutal ground and pound to seal the deal.
Klose went on to call out Mark Madsen in his post fight interview.

Former UFC fighter Jeremy Stephens wants to put his controversial shove of Drakkar Klose to rest as he gets ready for his PFL debut.
Stephens is set to make his debut in the PFL after a long tenure with the UFC. He’ll face a tough test in his first PFL outing against Clay Collard, who defeated former UFC champion Anthony Pettis in last year’s opener.
Stephens was supposed to face Klose in a lightweight matchup in April 2021 before Stephens shoved him during a weigh-in staredown. The shove resulted in Klose suffering a significant neck injury that he recently said he still suffers effects from to this day.
Stephens hasn’t talked about the incident that much recently, and he’d like to keep it that way. He has no remorse or regret after the incident that could’ve ended Klose’s MMA career.
“I’m done talking about him, brother,” Stephens said. “I don’t want to hear his name no more. S**t’s popping up. You know what, everybody can just eat it. I don’t care. It is what it is. That guy got knocked out right before I fought him. Is what it is, move on.”
Following the shove, the fight between Stephens and Klose was canceled due to Klose’s injury. Klose will return to the Octagon for the first time since that incident tonight against Brandon Jenkins at UFC Vegas 51.
As Stephens begins this new chapter in his professional MMA career, he wants to put arguably his most controversial moment behind him. He’ll look to get back in the win column in his new MMA destination following a five-fight losing streak.
