Reigning UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya will be hoping that Dricus Du Plessis comes through his bout against Robert Whittaker so he can give the South African a beating himself.

Du Plessis is set to take on Whittaker on the main card of UFC 290 in just under a months time. The winner is slated to challenge Adesanya for his 185lb title in headlining slot of the UFC 293 card in Sydney, Australia.

Whittaker has already faced ‘Stylebender’ twice, falling short on both occasions and on paper, will likely face him for a third time with ‘The Reaper’ being a sizeable favrioute. However, Adesanya is looking for fresh blood and following a bitter back-and-forth with Du Plessis, the champion want to get his hands on the rising contender.

Israel Adesanya to ‘manifest’ du Plessis victory

Adesanya and Du Plessis have recently been involved in a feud, which took an ugly turn towards race, identity and background. Adesanya has seemed to take this beef personally, labelling du Plessis as a ‘cracker’ and now seems desperate to fight him.

Talking to TheMMAHour, Adesanya explained that he would be ‘manifesting’ a Du Plessis victory in order to face him later this year

“I’m going to manifest [Du Plessis] winning this fight in the first round, and when he does, I’m going to be right there in the cage so he can turn around in September,” Adesanya said. “No bulls**t, no ‘I’m hurt,’ this and that, nope. We’re going to fight in Sydney in September. Because Rob is Rob, whatever, I’ve already got a plan for Rob if it’s Rob. But I really, really, really hope it’s DDP, because I will show him who the f**k I am.”

Adesanya would continue, doubling down on the comments, but acknowledged how much of a test Whittaker will present.

“It’s going to be first round, Dricus, f**ks him up, somehow, by some magic, some juju,” said Adesanya. “We’ll make it happen. It’s a hard ask, but again, Player 1, you can make things happen. Really, I’ll pray on this and make it happen.” (H/T MMAFighting)

Undisputed middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya has revealed he previously sparred with arch-rival, Dricus du Plessis years ago – claiming that when it came to striking exchanges between the two, he “messed up” the South African.

Adesanya, the current and two-time undisputed middleweight champion, most recently headlined UFC 287 back in April of this year, successfully reclaiming the divisional crown with a stunning second round KO win over Alex Pereira in the pair’s UFC rematch.

As for du Plessis, the Pethora native most recently improved to 6-0 since his transition to the UFC back in 2020, securing a second round corner’s stoppage TKO win over common-opponent, Derek Brunson at UFC 285 in March.

Slated to return in an official middleweight title-eliminator at UFC 290 in July during Interational Fight Week, du Plessis will take on former middleweight champion and soon-to-be common-foe, Robert Whittaker – with the victor poised to fight Adesanya for gold later this year.

Israel Adesanya reveals prior sparring session with Dricus du Plessis

Making his feelings on a potential clash with du Plessis known, Adesanya claims he bested the former during striking exchanges in a prior sparring session.

“So, you know what’s funny? What’s funny to me – I remember this, we actually sparred,” Israel Adesanya said during an appearance on IMPAULSIVE. “We actually sparred. Hey, sparring is sparring. Alsjo you know what, I’m coming from China. I was doing kickboxing over there, I had no MMA, nothing. I was just kickboxing. I had MMA already, but it wasn’t sharp. It was blunt. My Jiu-Jitsu was blunt, very blunt.”

“So, we’re sparring – I don’t know if we did two rounds or one, it’s so long ago as well,” Israel Adesanya explained. “This is 2014, so, long ago. I remember like on the grappling he had me. But on striking, I just messed him up.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Robert Whittaker plans to dismantle Dricus du Plessis he makes it a yucky fight UFC 290

Former undisputed middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker has emerged and is still sitting as a rather sizeable betting favorite to defeat South African contender, Dricus du Plessis next month at UFC 290 – as he vies for a title shot with two-time opponent, Israel Adesanya.

Whittaker, the current #2 ranked middleweight contender, has been sidelined since he co-headlined UFC Fight Night Paris last year, returning to the winner’s enclosure in a one-sided unanimous decision victory against one-time title challenger, Marvin Vettori.

As for du Plessis, the former EFC and KSW champion has enjoyed a promotional-perfect run since he landed in the Octagon in 2020, most recently defeating Derek Brunson with a second round corner’s stoppage at UFC 285, landing a stoppage win over the common-foe.

Booked to meet with du Plessis this summer at UFC 290 during International Fight Week in July, Robert Whittaker is still sitting as a comfortable -350 betting favorite to defeat du Plessis – with the Pethora native touted as a +290 betting underdog currently.

A host of sites, markets, and bookies offer wagering and betting – including https://casinozeus.net/, on a host of events including mixed martial arts, as the UFC touches down in ‘Sin City’ once more this July to host International Fight Week at UFC 290.

Touted as an official title-eliminator at the middleweight limit, Robert Whittaker, who has suffered two career losses to the above-mentioned undisputed middleweight best, Adesanya, has been welcomed as a next opponent by the latter, however, the City Kickboxing staple, who has been earmarked to fight at UFC 293 in September – has called infamously for a fight with rival, du Plessis.

Winning interim middleweight gold back in July 2017, Robert Whittaker managed to land a close, unanimous decision win over Yoel Romero, before retaining the title in an immediate title rematch win over the Cuban wrestling veteran.

Suffering a second round KO loss to Adesanya in a 2019 title unification fight, Robert Whittaker would earn a title rematch with the former back in February of last year, off the back of a trio of triumphs against Darren Till. Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum.

En route to interim championship spoils, Robert Whittaker had turned in consecutive victories against the likes of Brad Tavares, Uriah Hall, Derek Brunson, and Jacaré Souza.

19-2 as a professional, du Plessis has turned in an impressive five separate wins since landing the Octagon three years ago. The South African enjoyed an impressive run last year to boot, landing a finish over common-foe, Till – before his stoppage success over the aforenoted veteran middleweight contender, Brunson.

UFC 290 takes place on July 8. from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada – with a featherweight title unification fight between Alexander Volkanovski and interim titleholder, Yair Rodríguez slated to take main event honors.

In the night’s co-headliner, current flyweight champion, Brandon Moreno takes on surging Brazilian contender, Alexandre Pantoja in a championship rematch. Moreno suffered a prior loss to Pantoja on The Ultimate Fighter, as well as a decision defeat to the latter at UFC Fight Night Santiago in Chile back in 2018.

Dricus du Plessis lays out plan to beat Israel Adesanya there's a clear path UFC

Ahead of his incoming middleweight title-eliminator against former undisptued division champion, Robert Whittaker at UFC 290 in July, streaking contender, Dricus du Plessis has claimed there is a “clear path” to a win over current champion, Israel Adesanya.

du Plessis, the current #6 ranked middleweight contender, is slated to feature in a main card clash against former undisputed champion, Whittaker at UFC 290 in July during International Fight Week – with the victor set to fight Adesanya later this year.

In the midst of a promotional-perfect run of five consecutive victories, South African contender, du Plessis most recently turned in a second round corner stoppage TKO win over Derek Brunson at UFC 285 in March.

In December of last year, du Plessis landed a stunning third round win over former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till, submitting the now-promotional alum with a rear-naked choke at UFC 283.

Dricus du Plessis believes there is a clear path to success against Israel Adesanya

Previewing his fight with Whittaker this summer, du Plessis claimed that a matchup with Adesanya would likely prove more favorable for him – laying out a path to victory against the City Kickboxing star.

“It’s not going to be, ‘Oh, if i get him to the floor it’s over,’” Dricus du Plessis told Submission Radio. “Will I scramble? No. He can do everything so I think both of them are really good in their own right. As far as preparation goes with (Israel) Adesanya there’s more of a blueprint to beating Adesanya, I believe. Even though he is so good and so hard to implement that blueprint. In think there is a clear path to victory versus Adesanya. He is just so good at not giving opponents their way.”

“Where with Whittaker, the path to victory is not that simple,” Dricus du Plessis explained. “You have to catch him, that’s at the end fo the day what it’s going to be, you have to catch Robert Whittaker, or to outwork him is hard, to make him tired is hard, to get him to quit is nearly impossible. So, I think Whittaker [is] is the harder fight, where Adesanya [is] a lot more technical [than Robert Whittaker].”

Dricus du Plessis stokes rivalry with Israel Adesanya he's referred to himself as a Kiwi, Chinese, and Nigerian

UFC middleweight contender, Dricus Du Plessis continues to poke fun at Israel Adesanya over his nationality.

Reigning 185lb UFC champion, Adesnanya has recently taken a real personal disliking to surging contender, Du Plessis. The dispute has taken an uncomfortable and racial turn following comments made by Du Plessis, stating that he wanted to be the first African champion in the UFC.

While the UFC has had several African born champions – Francis Ngannnou, Kamaru Usman and Adesanya, all three of which live and train outside the continent, either in America or New Zealand and this seems to be where the confusion has begun. While the initial soundbite may not read well, Du Plessis clarified that he meant the first champion to be born and also fight out of African, but the damage had already been done.

Both Adesanya and Usman would express their distaste for the comments, the latter would explain it in an odd metaphor which awkwardly danced around the topic of skin.‘Stylebender’ on the other hand, stated he wanted his next fight to be Du Plessis next while referring to the South African as a ‘cracker’.

Dricus Du Plessis doubles down on comments

Talking to Submission Radio, Dricus Du Plessis touched on the situation and was adamant that he meant no disrespect with his comments and was only stating ‘facts’.

I have never said the words ‘more African’ in my life. I didn’t say they were not African, I stated facts,” Du Plessis said. “I am the only one in title contention, ever, who was born in Africa, lives in Africa, and trains here every single day, I never backpedalled. I’m sticking with that because that is the facts. I don’t care how it came across.

It seems to have struck a nerve with Israel Adesanya. He likes to be whatever fits him best in terms of nationality,” continued ‘Stillknocks’. “He’s referred to himself as a Kiwi, he’s referred to himself as Chinese, he’s referred to himself as a Nigerian. At the end of the day, he was born In Africa, he is African, but he does not reside here. That is the fact. That’s what makes me and him different. My success is coming out of Africa.” (H/T MMA News)

Du Plessis is set to take on former champion, Robert Whittaker on the UFC 290 card in July, with the winner to take on Adesanya for the middleweight title.

Israel Adesanya hits out at Dricus du Plessis ahead of UFC 290

Making his feelings known about his interest in fighting du Plessis in his first attempted title defense as part of his second middleweight title reign next, Adesanya fired multiple barbs in the direction of the Pethora native.

“He’s (Dricus du Plessis) created division,” Israel Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. “This is not the time for that sh*t. You could have definitely got the fight without talking all that sh*t. Well, be careful what you wish for. You got what you want. He’s next. I’m going to f*cking beat him until he’s black.”

“I’m going to f*cking take him to school, in the Octagon, and on history,” Israel Adesanya explained. “What he’s doing is creating divide. You can’t not know your history – I have never questioned him as an African, because yeah, you were born in Africa. South Africa. Of course, you’re an African. I have never questioned that. But who the f*ck is this cracker to tell me who the f*ck I am? Who the f*ck Kamaru (Usman) is, who the f*ck (Francis) Ngannou is? I’m like, are you dumb? As a product of colonization, you’re trying to tell me who the f*ck I am. You can take the boy out of Africa, but you can never take Africa out of the boy.”
