Dana White didn’t see anything wrong with Israel Adesanya’s racially-charged rant during his face-to-face with Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 290.

Du Plessis scored the biggest win of his mixed martial arts career on Saturday night, besting former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker via a second-round TKO. The victory put ‘Stillknocks’ in pole position for a shot at the 185-pound crown currently held by two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya. Following Du Plessis’ win inside T-Mobile Arena, ‘Stylebender’ stormed the Octagon and delivered a series of racial remarks that had even his most loyal fans second-guessing their status as Adesanya supporters.

“This is my African brother right here, let’s go n*gga, what’s up b*tch?” Adesanya yelled during their UFC 290 face-off. “Let’s go n*gga, here n*gga. Wassup n*gga? Yeah, my African brother!”

While fight fans were either critical or just completely confused by Adesanya’s ridiculous tirade, UFC President Dana White couldn’t possibly care any less. Asked about the repeated use of the N-word while addressing Du Plessis during the pay-per-view, White said:

“He’s black. Who gives a sh*t? I could care less, this is the fight business,” White said at the UFC 290 post-fight press event. “Israel Adesanya can say whatever he wants to say” (h/t Aaron Bronsteter).

When Can Fans Expect Israel Adesanya vs. Dricus Du Plessis?

As for when fans can expect Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis to scrap inside the Octagon, the likeliest scenario has them headlining the promotion’s return to Australia for UFC 293 on September 10. With that being a mere two months away, ‘Stillknocks’ would be making a fairly quick turnaround for what is undoubtedly the biggest fight of his career.

Speaking at the post-fight press event, White did state that he would be giving Du Plessis and newly minted flyweight world champion Alexandre Pantoja some time with their families before approaching them about their next fight.

All in all, UFC 290 was a fantastic way to cap off International Fight Week. Fans saw a new world champion crowned and a P4P great who continued his legendary reign over the featherweight division. We bore witness to the rise of a new middleweight contender and said goodbye to one of the most exciting fighters in the history of the sport. Four different competitors scored highlight-reel knockouts less than 60 seconds into their respective bouts, setting an event record that may never be broken.

Dricus Du Plessis has punched his ticket for a middleweight world title fight with reigning champion Israel Adesanya.

‘Stillknocks’ shocked fans inside T-Mobile Arena on Saturday night after scoring a second-round TKO over perennial contender Robert Whittaker, booking himself his first UFC title opportunity. Dricus Du Plessis was understandably elated, but it didn’t take long for the scene to turn ugly once two-time titleholder Israel Adesanya stepped inside the Octagon for one of the most awkward face-offs in recent memory.

Many fans on social media were quick to condemn Adesanya’s racially-charged comments with many accusing him of being downright racist toward Du Plessis.

“This is my African brother right here, let’s go n*gga, what’s up b*tch?” Adesanya yelled during their UFC 290 face-off. “Let’s go n*gga, here n*gga. Wassup n*gga? Yeah, my African brother!”

“I’m African but I ain’t no brother of yours, son,” Du Plessis responded.

Israel Adesanya and Dricus Du Plessis Expected to Scrap at UFC 293 in September

‘The Last Stylebender’ and Dricus Du Plessis have been at odds with one another in recent months after DDP called into question Adesany’s status as a true African. Adesanya was born in Nigeria but lives and trains in New Zealand while Du Plessis was born in South Africa and has resided there his entire life. That fact led Du Plessis to suggest that he is the true African middleweight, a comment that did not sit well with the ‘Stylebender.’

“Easy fight, that’s what it is, it’s easy money,” Adesanya said. “I manifested this, I said I was going to have this moment, and I know I’m going to have this moment. Look at me. Come here. Just feel me.”

Fortunately, fans won’t have to wait long to see Israel Adesanya square off with Dricus Du Plessis inside the Octagon. ‘Stylebender’ is currently slated for a return on September 10 when the promotion heads back to Australia for UFC 293. That gives ‘Stillknocks’ roughly nine weeks to prepare for the biggest fight of his career.

Improving to 6-0 since his Octagon debut back in 2020, South African contender, Dricus du Plessis has set up his first championship outing under the UFC banner tonight — stopping former middleweight champion, Robert Whittaker with a second round TKO on the main card of UFC 290.

Turning in his second stoppage win of the year, Pethora native, du Plessis, who had landed a prior March stoppage win over Derek Brunson, secured the most high-profile win of his professional career win to date, defeating former titleholder, Whittaker with a second round barrage.

Entering tonight’s UFC 290 clash as the number five ranked middleweight contender, du Plessis changed the tide of the fight in the latter stages of the first round, bloodying Whittaker and landing some heavy ground strikes.

And in the second frame, du Plessis managed to drop the former champion with a counter left hand, before following up and dropping Whittaker for the second time, before forcing a TKO stoppage over the latter — setting up a championship battle with Israel Adesanya, conceivably for later this year.

Former undisputed welterweight champion, Robbie Lawler has been branded an “absolute legend” ahead of his final outing in professional mixed martial arts this weekend on the preliminary card of UFC 290 on Saturday.

Lawler, a former undisputed welterweight champion under the banner of the UFC, is slated to land in the featured preliminary card of UFC 290 this Saturday during International Fight Week, taking on division staple, Niko Price in his billed retirement fight.

Most recently featuring during July of last year, San Diego veteran, Lawler suffered an eventual third round standing TKO loss to Bryan Barberena.

Without a victory since September of the prior year, Robbie Lawler avenged a previous loss to former WEC and Strikeforce champion, Nick Diaz, stopping the Stockton veteran with a fourth round TKO via retirement.

Dricus du Plessis heaps praise on ex-champion, Robbie Lawler

And slated to feature this weekend at UFC 290 in his retirement outing, Lawler, who shares the card with main card star, Dricus du Plessis, has been showered with praise and branded as an “absolute legend” by the South African.

“The fact that the man, in all of his (Robbie Lawler fights, didn’t go for a submission once, that is the coolest thing ever,” Dricus du Plessis told MMA Junkie. “And that is so bad ass. He has all my respect, and he’s an absolute legend.”

Landing undisputed welterweight gold back in 2014 with a rematch decision win over Johny Hendricks, Lawler would land consecutive decision title defenses in Fight of the Year clashes with both Rory MacDonald, and Carlos Condit in 2015, and 2016, respectively.

And ahead of his UFC 290 outing, Lawler and MacDonald were both officially inducted into the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame for their efforts in their memorable UFC 194 title rematch battle in 2015.

Across his spectacular career, storied striker, Lawler landed notable career wins over the likes of Chris Lytle, Frank Trigg, Murilo Rua, Melvin Manhoef, Matt Lindland, Josh Koscheck, Rory MacDonald, Jake Ellenberger, Matt Brown, Johny Hendricks, Carlos Condit, Donald Cerrone, and Nick Diaz.

Dricus du Plessis denies striking with Israel Adesanya while sparring UFC

Ahead of his pivotal championship-eliminator next month on the main card of UFC 290 next month, Dricus du Plessis has denied claims he was on the underhand of striking exchanges with current champion, Israel Adesanya – during a host of prior sparring sessions.

du Plessis, the current number four ranked middleweight contender, is slated to feature on the main card of UFC 290 next month during International Fight Week – taking on former titleholder and soon-to-be common-foe, Robert Whittaker in an official title eliminator clash.

In the midst of a five fight winning run since his UFC landing, in two recent victories, South African finisher, Dricus du Plessis submitted former welterweight title challenger, Darren Till, before defeating perennial contender, Derek Brunson at UFC 285 back in March.

And off the back of his stunning second round KO win over Brazilian rival, Alex Pereira in his championship reclamation win, Adesanya called for an immediate title defense with Pethora native, du Plessis.

Offering to fight the latter later this year in preference of a trilogy with Whittaker, Adesanya claimed the South African was dominated by him in prior sparring matches.

“So, you know what’s funny? What’s funny to me – I remember this, we actually sparred,” Israel Adesanya said. “We actually sparred. Hey, sparring is sparring. Alsjo you know what, I’m coming from China. I was doing kickboxing over there, I had no MMA, nothing. I was just kickboxing. I had MMA already, but it wasn’t sharp. It was blunt. My Jiu-Jitsu was blunt, very blunt.”

“So, we’re sparring – I don’t know if we did two rounds or one, it’s so long ago as well,” Israel Adesanya explained. “This is 2014, so, long ago. I remember like on the grappling he had me. But on striking, I just messed him up.”

Dricus du Plessis denies ever striking with Israel Adesanya while sparring

However, according to du Plessis, the contender claimed they never actually shared any standup rounds against each other in the past.

“Yeah, we trained in Thailand together,” Dricus du Plessis said during an interview with The Schmo. “He had quite a record in MMA already back then. I was 3-0, I think, when we trained together. He said I beat him in the grappling exchanges – he is one hundred percent correct in that. I did manhandle him in the grappling and wrestling exchanges.”

“But we did not do a single round of striking together, not one,” Dricus du Plessis explained. “That was his way of saving himself, saying, ‘No, but I beat him in the striking.’ We never did striking together. When we sparred, we grappled and we wrestled. We never did one single round of striking together, not as far as I know and that’s something you would remember.” (Transcribed by MMA News)

Reigning UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya will be hoping that Dricus Du Plessis comes through his bout against Robert Whittaker so he can give the South African a beating himself.

Du Plessis is set to take on Whittaker on the main card of UFC 290 in just under a months time. The winner is slated to challenge Adesanya for his 185lb title in headlining slot of the UFC 293 card in Sydney, Australia.

Whittaker has already faced ‘Stylebender’ twice, falling short on both occasions and on paper, will likely face him for a third time with ‘The Reaper’ being a sizeable favrioute. However, Adesanya is looking for fresh blood and following a bitter back-and-forth with Du Plessis, the champion want to get his hands on the rising contender.

Israel Adesanya to ‘manifest’ du Plessis victory

Adesanya and Du Plessis have recently been involved in a feud, which took an ugly turn towards race, identity and background. Adesanya has seemed to take this beef personally, labelling du Plessis as a ‘cracker’ and now seems desperate to fight him.

Talking to TheMMAHour, Adesanya explained that he would be ‘manifesting’ a Du Plessis victory in order to face him later this year

“I’m going to manifest [Du Plessis] winning this fight in the first round, and when he does, I’m going to be right there in the cage so he can turn around in September,” Adesanya said. “No bulls**t, no ‘I’m hurt,’ this and that, nope. We’re going to fight in Sydney in September. Because Rob is Rob, whatever, I’ve already got a plan for Rob if it’s Rob. But I really, really, really hope it’s DDP, because I will show him who the f**k I am.”

Adesanya would continue, doubling down on the comments, but acknowledged how much of a test Whittaker will present.

“It’s going to be first round, Dricus, f**ks him up, somehow, by some magic, some juju,” said Adesanya. “We’ll make it happen. It’s a hard ask, but again, Player 1, you can make things happen. Really, I’ll pray on this and make it happen.” (H/T MMAFighting)
