Following what seemed to be a strange retirement statement from Conor McGregor on Tuesday afternoon, where he declared that he was “retiring young” before saying “thanks for the cheese” and “catch ya later,” his scheduled opponent for the upcoming landmark UFC 200 event, Nate Diaz, has followed suit.

“I guess my work here is done I’m retiring too,” wrote Diaz soon after the McGregor tweet.

For what it’s worth, MMAFighting.com journalist Ariel Helwani insists that there is more to the McGregor tweet than some may think.

“Multiple sources are adamant at this time that McGregor’s tweet isn’t a joke, troll job or hoax of any kind,” wrote Helwani on Twitter. “Reason(s) behind it is unclear.”

Unless things change, as it stands now, McGregor and Diaz are scheduled to meet in an immediate 170-pound rematch in the main event of UFC 200 at the brand new T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, July 9, 2016.

It looks like talks between Georges St-Pierre and the UFC are about to get “more serious,” that is according to GSP himself, who spoke about a potential Octagon return with Ariel Helwani on Monday’s edition of “The MMA Hour” at MMAFighting.com.

St-Pierre told Helwani that he will soon be taking part in a “test training camp” before making the final decision as to whether or not he is fully prepared to make his highly-anticipated Octagon return.

“If I feel good, I’ll give the thumbs up to my manager,” St-Pierre said. “They’ve been talking with UFC, but now they’re going to talk more seriously to see what’s gonna happen.”

GSP also noted that one sticking point in the negotiations could be the Reebok sponsorship deal, as it was not part of his contract with the UFC when he was an active competitor.

“It changed a lot of things in my contract,” GSP said. “We need to renegotiate maybe a new contract. I’m not allowed to wear my sponsors anymore, and I lose money. It depends how it’s gonna go down with the UFC. We’ll see what’s gonna happen.”

Georges St-Pierre (25-2) last fought at UFC 167 back in November of 2013, defeating Johny Hendricks via decision. GSP is currently riding a 12-fight winning streak inside the Octagon.

UFC President Dana White appeared on ESPN’s “Beadle and Shelburne Show” on Sunday evening and dropped a bombshell regarding the highly-anticipated Octagon return of Ronda Rousey.

According to White, the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion who has been on the sidelines since losing the title to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last November in Australia, is “definitely part of the discussion” to fight on the UFC’s debut event at Madison Square Garden in New York City on November 12th.

Not only did he drop that bombshell, he also announced that Rousey will likely be challenging for the title in her first fight back.

“[Rousey] is definitely part of the discussion [to fight on Nov. 12 in New York] and she will fight whoever has that belt,” White said. “I think Miesha, she’s fighting at [UFC 200], she might fight again before that. She wants to fight. We’ll see what happens. Miesha has been the No. 2 baddest woman in the world for years. For her to stay active right now, makes sense.

White continued, “What’s cool about that 135-pound division is that everybody is fighting right now. The only one not fighting is Holly. Miesha, depending on how she fights Nunes — who is very, very tough — if anything crazy happens and she comes out of that fight with a quick win, 100 percent healthy, she could turn around and fight again and then fight Ronda.”

Regarding Holm, White reiterated his belief that she “went out like a gangster” against Tate at UFC 196.

“She hung in there [against Tate],” White said. “For people who know a lot about jiu-jitsu, she did everything right to defend that choke. Miesha just wasn’t letting go of that neck, man. [Holm] went out like a gangster.”

UFC 205 is scheduled for Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York.

This weekend, the opponent for MMA legend Fedor Emelianenko’s next fight was announced.

Brazilian MMA media outlet Combate confirmed the news recently that Fedor Emelianenko will return to fight under the “Fight Nights” banner on June 17th, as he collides with former UFC veteran Fabio Maldonado.

Emelianenko (35-4, 1 NC) last competed at the Rizin FF event on New Year’s Eve in Japan, defeating Jaideep Singh in just three minutes in his first MMA fight in years.

Meanwhile Maldonado (22-9), a fan favorite in the UFC for his ability to endure punishment, scored two quick knockouts in boxing matches. Prior to the Fedor fight on 6/17, Maldonado is scheduled to fight against Felipe Dantas in a light heavyweight bout on May 6th in Brazil.
