Alex Pereira

It may be tough to get a smile out of Alex Pereira, but a good old-fashioned prank on his friend and fellow former champion Glover Teixeira always seems to do the trick.

Pereira and Teixeira (hey, that rhymes) have emerged as one of the more popular duos in mixed martial arts over the last year. Sadly, Teixeira retired from the sport in January after coming up short against Jamahal Hill at UFC 283, but fans can still see the former light heavyweight king in the corner every time Alex Pereira steps inside the Octagon.

On occasion, we also get a behind-the-scenes look at their friendship outside of the UFC. Most of the time, that involves ‘Poatan’ pulling off some kind of prank on the legendary scrapper, as is the case with Pereira’s most recent clip shared on social media. In the video, which you can see below, Pereira convinces Teixeira that a restaurant napkin is actually something edible.

Look at the prank I’m going to do to Glover. It’s a napkin to clean hands, and I’ll tell him it’s to eat,” Pereira says in Portuguese, grinning.

Good, huh?” Teixeira responds in Portuguese after getting handed the dish. “F*ck, man. Damn.”

Come on, ‘Poatan!’” Teixeira adds after eating it. “F*ck you, man!

Alex Pereira Looks to Become a Two-Division UFC Champion in November

Alex Pereira will be back in action come November 11 when he looks to capture his second UFC title in as many weight classes. After conquering the middleweight division, ‘Poatan’ has found a new home at light heavyweight and in just his second fight in the division, will challenge ex-titleholder Jiri Prochazka for the vacant crown in the UFC 295 co-main event emanating from the world’s most famous arena, Madison Square Garden.

Pereira earned his title opportunity after securing a split-decision victory over Jan Blachowicz at UFC 291 in July.

As for Prochazka, the bout will be his first fight since capturing the 205-pound title in a Fight of the Year contender with Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 last year. However, ‘Denisa’ was forced to vacate the belt after sustaining a shoulder injury that required him to undergo corrective surgery. More than a year later, Prochazka will attempt to reclaim the crown against Teixeira’s successor and protege.

UFC CEO Dana White shows off his crazy body transformation over the last six years

UFC CEO Dana White is looking fit as a fiddle.

The face that runs the place decided to show off his newly shredded physique on social media, comparing it to a shot of a much more plump-looking version of himself from just a few short years ago.

“Left is March 17th 2017. Right is September 18th 2023. F*CK*N NUTS!!!”

You Too Can Look Like Dana White… As Long as You Have Six Figures to Spare

Dana White’s admittedly impressive transformation comes courtesy of Gary Brecka, a self-proclaimed “bio-hacker” who claims he can get you back into the best shape of your life. All he needs is 38 minutes of your time and $133,561. All major credit cards are accepted.

White began to take his health much more seriously after Brecka’s company, 10x Health Systems, informed the UFC CEO that he would be dead within 10.4 years following a series of blood and DNA tests.

“They know when you’re gonna die and they’re right within a month,” White explained. “He said, ‘You do exactly what I tell you to do for 10 weeks and I’ll change your life.’ You have to understand, I don’t fall for all this hippie bullsh*t, I don’t do any of this sh*t. I’m like average Joe, real guy. This guy has changed my life in 10 weeks.”

Kudos to Dana White for finding a way to improve his health and get into the best shape of his life. Unfortunately, for most average Joe’s, that kind of coin is quite tough to come up with.

White likes to show off his body transformation on a fairly regular basis, leading one to suspect that he has some kind of deal with Brecka’s company, but you can’t deny that whatever White is doing seems to be working so, carpe diem.

‘Sugar’ Sean O’Malley got so high that Bryce Mitchell’s ridiculous flat Earth theory started to make sense.

Mitchell’s over-the-top claims about gravity and the Earth being flat are certainly no secret, but the Arkansas-born featherweight has been making headlines after calling for a debate on the subject with the UFC’s reigning bantamweight world champion, Sean O’Malley.

“Here’s my business proposal for ya. Have me on your podcast – I’ll tell ya how the Earth is flat, and I’ll tell ya all the proof of it,” Mitchell said in a video. “And you won’t be able to beat me in an actual argument, like a debate with facts. ‘Cause I’ve done a lot of research, and my attempt is to persuade you and get you closer to Jesus.”

O’Malley is yet to accept the offer, but it appears that ‘Sugar’ inadvertently found out just how high one has to get for Bryce Mitchell’s conspiracy theories to start making some sense.

“Hey brother, I’ve been thinking,” O’Malley said in a video posted on X. “I think you’re onto something about that flat Earth.”

Will Sean O’Malley Accept Bryce Mitchell’s Offer?

Clearly, Sean O’Malley is baked like a cake in the short, but amusing clip. The real question is, what kind of good-good was ‘Sugar’ on, and more importantly, where can we all get some of it?

Bryce Mitchell scored his seventh win inside the Octagon on September 23 earning a unanimous decision victory over Dan Ige. Despite landing the biggest W of his career thus far, much of the attention was focused on Mitchell’s pre-fight and post-fight antics. Moments before their scrap, ‘Thug Nasty’ brought a bible into the Octagon, raised it above his head, and yelled “Freedom” as if he had just finished watching Braveheart on Netflix.

Following the victory, Mitchell suggested that the horrific wildfires in Maui were manmade and tried to get his opponent to lead everyone in a group prayer before being cut off by Michael Bisping.

Video: UFC champ Alexander Volkanovski attempts to submit 6’4? NBA star Jamal Murray in 60 seconds

Who had a budding friendship between UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski and NBA star Jamal Murray on their 2023 bingo card?

Volkanovski and Murray hooked up last year when the latter visited Australia and gave the MMA star some tips on how to improve his jump shot on the basketball court. In exchange, ‘The Great’ offered to show Murray a thing our two in the world of kickboxing. Since then, Volkanovski and Murray have been spotted together on multiple occasions. The 6’4″ NBA star even arrived with Volkanovski at UFC 290 for his featherweight title unification clash against Yair Rodriguez earlier this year.

Recently, Volkanovski and Murray created another viral moment together when the 145-pound king attempted to submit Murray in under 60 seconds during a training session.

Jamal Murray may have no formal martial arts training, but his size, strength, and agility helped him survive a minute-long onslaught from one of the greatest mixed martial arts in the world today. You can’t help, but be a bit impressed.

What’s Next for Alexander Volkanovski?

After securing a big win over Yair Rodriguez in his last outing, Volkanovski has a few options as to what will come next inside the Octagon. The likeliest scenario will see him once again putting his featherweight title on the line against streaking standout Ilia Topuria as early as January, but a rematch with current lightweight champion Islam Makhachev continues to loom large over the No. 1 ranked pound-for-pound fighter in the world.

In February, ‘The Great’ came up short in his bid to become a two-division world champion, but gave Islam Makhachev the fight of his life and in many opinions, did more than enough to secure a decision victory. Given the close and critically acclaimed nature of their scrap, everyone, including Volkanovski and the ‘Dagestani Destroyer’ seem intent on making their rematch a reality.

As for Jamal Murray, the 26 year old will begin his seventh year as a player for the Denver Nuggets when the NBA’s regular season gets underway in October.

Deiveson Figueiredo

Two-time flyweight world champion Deiveson Figueiredo believes he has three more years of fighting before hanging up his gloves for good.

Figueiredo, 35, will return to the Octagon for the first time this December, 11 months after completing his epic quadrilogy with Brandon Moreno. ‘Deus da Guerra’ ultimately lost the series and the flyweight world title in their final meeting, but Figueiredo is ready to begin what will be the final chapter of his illustrious career in the incredibly competitive bantamweight division.

Appearing on MMA Fighting’s Portuguese-language podcast Trocação Franca, Figueiredo revealed that he plans on calling it a career after three more years of delivering fight fans the style of scraps they’ve come to know and love him for.

“I have three more years ahead of me before retiring,” Figueiredo said. “In the name of Jesus, I want to always, always, always put on great fights for the audience for as long as I’m in action, you can be sure of that.”

With more than a decade of his life dedicated to mixed martial arts and many years working on his family’s farm as a child, Deiveson Figueiredo knows he is nearing the end of the road and is looking forward to the day when he can kick back and enjoy the fruits of his labor.

“I want to live a bit of what I haven’t yet,” Figueiredo explained. “I’m a kid that have always worked since I got involved with MMA. I wasn’t born in a wealthy family, you know? I was born in Soure, Marajo, and was raised in a farm. My father was a cowherd and always worked in a farm, and one day he realized that he was hurting us, so he took us to the city to study. I’ve studied until I was 18 but always went back to the farm to help my father and take care of animals until I found out about MMA.

“Thank God I’ve achieved a lot through MMA. Look where I am now, in the United States. A kid that left Marajo, a simple town and the farm, and is in the United States now, fighting in the world’s biggest organization, giving my best to MMA fans and changing my family’s story through fighting. And thank God I can help support my family now.”

Deiveson Figueiredo Hopes to Share the Octagon with Dominick Cruz

But before he goes off into that good night, Figueiredo plans on adding another piece of UFC gold to his collection. On December 2, ‘Deus da Guerra’ will make his bantamweight debut against division standout Rob Font. With a win, Figueiredo will likely find himself thrust into the division’s top 10, making him an instant contender.

“I hope to one day get to the title fight in this division,” Figueiredo said. “That depends a lot on what I do against them.”

Before scoring a potential bantamweight title opportunity, Figueiredo would admittedly love the opportunity to share the Octagon with the promotion’s first-ever 135-pound champion, Dominick Cruz.

“That would be a great name for me to fight in my second fight in the division,” Figueiredo said. “It was going to be Dominick now but he’s injured. He’s a former champion and it would be a dream for me to fight a guy that once was a champion.”

Deiveson Figueiredo goes into his Fight Night headliner with Rob Font carrying a 10-3-1 record inside the Octagon. It will also be the first time ‘Deus da Guerra’ has fought someone not named Brandon Moreno in more than three years.

Timeline revealed for ex-UFC star Cain Velasquez’s attempted murder trial

Cain Velasquez

Ex-UFC heavyweight world champion Cain Velasquez is expected to face trial this January following a sixth and final trial setting date scheduled for December 6.

During a pre-trial hearing at the Santa Clara County Hall of Justice in California, Judge Daniel T. Nishagaya heard from both the prosecution and defense before setting the early December return date with the trial expected to get underway in mid-to-late January 2024.

“I am willing to give this another setting date with the understanding I will be intending to set a trial date in the middle-to-later part of January, on Dec. 6,” Nishagaya said (h/t MMA Junkie).

Velasquez, 40, has already pleaded not guilty to a slew of charges, the most serious being attempted murder after the former MMA fighter allegedly led a vehicle carrying three individuals on a high-speed chase in February 2022. Velasquez reportedly fired multiple shots into the automobile, striking the driver in the process.

If Found Guilty, Cain Velasquez Could Face Life in Prison

The individual Cain Velasquez is said to have been targeting in the incident is Harry Goularte, a man accused of molesting Velasquez’s then-four-year-old son at a daycare owned and operated by his mother, Patricia Goularte. Paul Bender, Goularte’s stepfather, was the one driving during the alleged incident and sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by one of the bullets.

Goularte had been arrested prior to the alleged incident with Velasquez and will return to court on November 15 for his own trial setting where he faces a single charge of lewd acts with a minor under the age of 14.

Velasquez spent eight months behind bars before being released in November 2022.

“Thank you to everybody who (supported me),” Velasquez said upon his release. “I love all of you. (I want to) just always continue to be better as a person, always do good things, just make something positive of this terrible situation. My family and I are going to do that. We’ll do something good.”

If found guilty, Cain Velasquez could face a minimum of 20 years to life in prison.
