Georges St-Pierre has officially declared his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) – again.

But his longtime coach Firas Zahabi believes there’s still a window of opportunity for a return. Speaking on “Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show,” Zahabi said he believes an “incredible opportunity” might be enough to lure the Canadian legend out of retirement (via Chamatkar Sandhu):

“He retired on Thursday and Friday morning he was there for practice. … I believe there’s a fire in Georges. I believe that one day there will be an incredible opportunity for a fight and he might come back.”

“GSP” was attempting to land a super fight with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. However, when the promotion opted not to go that route, “Rush” decided it was time to hang up his gloves. He walks away with a record of 26-2. St-Pierre is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, welterweight champions of all time.

He is also one of few fighters to have ever won two titles in different weight classes. In his last outing, St-Pierre defeated Michael Bisping to win the UFC middleweight title. After being unable to chase the third, we may have seen the last of the 37-year-old inside the cage.

Firas Zahabi reacts to the latest insults thrown his way by former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion Conor McGregor.

Zahabi gave his thoughts about a potential rematch between McGregor and UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway. This led to Zahabi picking Holloway to beat the former champion. Obviously, that didn’t sit well with McGregor as he fired some shots at the coach through social media.

The coach had another Ask Me Anything session where he responded to McGregor once he stated that he has studied his game a ton. Thus, he thinks that he’s the one of the best fighters out there.

“There was nothing personal,” Zahabi said (H/T to Bloody Elbow). “The reason why I didn’t respond to McGregor (on twitter) is he got personal, and I don’t do that. I kind of glanced over, then I realized it was about me, and realized he’s insulting me,” he said. “I thought to myself, ‘hey the double champ watches my podcast! That’s amazing! How great is that? I’m gonna give Conor McGregor a shoutout on my podcast.’

“Then somebody pointed out to me, ‘no, it was regards to an article that came out… about me picking Max Holloway over Conor McGregor’ That’s why Conor got upset and went to twitter. So I thought to myself, ‘Oh, he doesn’t listen to my podcast. Too bad.’

Avoiding Issues

Zahabi continued by stating that if McGregor had listened to what he said rather than read transcripts then things might have been different.

“But then I realized, ‘hey, he talked about the dorms. That article doesn’t talk about the dorms!’” he continued. “If he knows about the dorms, he’s listened to this podcast. So I want to give a shoutout to Conor. Thank you for supporting this channel. I really appreciate you listening to this, and I want to let you know it was nothing personal.”

Conor McGregor fires back Tristar Gym coach Firas Zahabi after some of the comments he made during an ‘Ask me Anything’ session. It all started when Zahabi gave his thoughts about a potential rematch between McGregor and UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway.

McGregor beat Holloway back in 2013. However, since then, Holloway has transformed into the fighter he is today by getting better. Since then Holloway has gone on an impressive 13 fight win streak.

Zahbi ended up picking Holloway to beat the former UFC lightweight and featherweight champion in a potential second fight. Well, that didn’t sit well with McGregor, who responded with a series of tweets.

Hey firaz. Young man afraid to get in and fight, himself. Stop talking about me like you know me, you twerp. You are what age? Why are not in there yourself? Are you not up to it? You rent dorms and hit a clock for a living. Shut your pie, kid.”

He also fired a tweet that he has since deleted that read, “All these young mouthy clock hitters. Stay ready.”
