Gable Steveson could well be the next Olympic star to transition to MMA.

The 21-year-old recently claimed wrestling gold at the Tokyo Olympics. Steveson looked dominant in his first three matches before pulling off a last-second win in the Olympic final.

Since then, Steveson has excited MMA fans with his social media activity that seemed to signal a potential move into the sport.

In an interview with MMA Fighting, Steveson revealed he is seriously contemplating competing in MMA.

“Most definitely, I’m a fight fan,” Steveson said. “Who wouldn’t want to be the baddest man on the planet? Who wouldn’t want to hold that UFC championship belt? I’m holding the gold medal and I’m the baddest wrestler on the planet. Why wouldn’t I want to go out there and be the baddest UFC heavyweight champion?

“I sent that tweet out to Dana. I’m sure he saw it, I’m sure someone from his desk got a hold of him. But like I said, all options will be open.”

Ben Askren believes Steveson would have an easy transition from wrestling to MMA. The former Bellator and ONE Championship titlist even suggested that the 21-year-old would be unbeatable with just 18 months of MMA training.

“I saw the tweet from Ben Askren and I do believe that, too,” Steveson said. “I do believe that with my wrestling skills and me putting on some striking skills, I can be the champion in less than 18 months. I can go out there and dominate my way through the heavyweight field.”

MMA is not the only option for the Olympic gold medallist who is also weighing up a possible move to the WWE.

“Most definitely I’m going to explore the WWE,” Steveson said. “Vince McMahon is a great dude, Triple H is a great person also. For me not to explore WWE would be fairly stupid on my part.

“But I’m going to go out there and me and Triple H are going to have face-to-face talks, me and Vince will, me and Dana will, me and Joe Rogan will and I’m going go out there and like I said explore.”

As far as Ben Askren and Henry Cejudo are concerned, Gable Steveson is destined for greatness.

Steveson recently won a gold medal in wrestling at the Olympics after a remarkable late comeback saw him make headlines across the combat sports world.

And although Steveson looks likely to head to the WWE — having also notably wrestled with Brock Lesnar in the past — Askren feels with less than two years of training in MMA, the 21-year-old could be unstoppable.

“18 months training MMA and tell me who on earth is beating him? Freaking NO ONE”

Cejudo echoed those feelings as he believes Steveson can excel no matter where he goes.

“Welcome to Olympic Champion Mountain. Since the first time I saw you wrestle at the trials I knew you were special. The impossible is nothing for what ever you decide to do after wrestling. Whether it’s Wrestling, NFL, WWE, or UFC. @GableSteveson”

Steveson certainly has a bright future.
