The headline fight for Bellator 189 will be the women’s featherweight title fight where current featherweight champion, Julia Budd, will be faced with the challenge that contender, Arlene Blencowe, will throw at her.

Apart from Cris Cyborg who fights in the UFC, these two women who will headline Bellator 189 are widely renowned as two of the best fighters in the weight division. The pair have come up against each other, and this can be thought of almost as a rematch. Their last encounter ended with Julia Budd clinching the victory in a closely competed fight that ended in a difficult to make unanimous decision after three rounds. Julia Budd will either put the doubters to rest with a second victory against Blencowe, or Blencowe will show what she is made of.

In terms of recent form, Julia Budd is really soaring high and is on a 8 – fight winning streak. This has also included defeating the likes of strong competitors such as Charmaine Tweet and Gabby Holloway who are both amongst the top ten rankings in the featherweight division.

Budd is now 34 years old and won the title in March after she took out MarloesCoenen. Blencowe gets her chance to dethrone Budd. Currently sitting ranked third in the division, the Australian is in pretty good form herself with four wins out of her last fight, and the sole defeat coming against Budd herself which was quite a close call and a well – matched contest. Blencowe even picked up dominant first round victories against the likes of Janay Harding and Rhiannon Thompson.

In terms of prediction – we are going to have to side with Julia Budd here, but not by much. The more experienced fighter has what it takes to come out on top, again.

The Resurrection Fighting Alliance is set to take off on January 15th when Benjamin Smith (15-3) faces off against Bojan Velickovic (12-3) in what is expected to be a close contest for the organization’s currently vacant welterweight title spot.

The venue has been announced as 1st Bank Center in Broomfield, Colorado. The fight is scheduled for the 15th of January and it will be aired on AXS TV.

The RFA president Ed Soares seemed content to kick things off in Colorado, as he said that the headline act features two of the most highly accomplished 170 pound fighters in the history of the RFA and that it was a great way to begin their 2016 campaign.

Benjamin Smith seems to be the favorite to reclaim the title that he once held. Smith was welterweight champion until he lost the spot to Gilbert Smith who then moved to Bellator and hence left the welterweight champion spot up for grabs. Smith is now 35 years old and suggested in a press conference that this may be his last chance to earn a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship before he hangs up his gloves.

Before being beaten by Gilbert Smith via submission, Benjamin Smith was on fire as he had racked up an impressive six consecutive victories including a technical knockout against Indalecio Tat Romero that won him the title.

His opponent is 27 year old Bojan Velickovic from Serbia. Velickovic now lives in Colorado and has won his past three fights prior to which he also was beaten by Gilbert Smith.

The two fighters are very evenly matched on paper and despite the 8 year age difference, it is set to be a very closely competed fight indeed and we can only wait and watch to see what unravels.

Bisping Vs Silva is a fight that is set to feature on UFC Fight Night 83 which is scheduled to take place on February 27th, 2016 at the O2 Arena in England. It will be only the fifth UFC fight to occur in the 02 Arena and the 8th in England overall.

The build-up leading to this much anticipated fight has gotten rather hostile as Michael Bisping isn’t allowing anyone to forget that Silva didn’t just fail one drug test, or even two, but a shocking three! Silva who is also known as “The Spider” returned a positive result for anabolic steroid usage and anti-anxiety pills when he was tested after his victory against Nick Diaz. When it transpired that Silva was on performance enhancing steroids, the result was overturned to a no contest and The Spider was slapped with a staggering $380,000 fine. He was also barred from the UFC for one whole year.

All eyes are going to be on “The Spider”, who is also the former middleweight champ, as he makes a return after his one year suspension and looks to put things straight with a victory against Bisping. Bisping has appealed that Silva should be rigorously drug tested prior to the fight, especially given his history with drug abuse. Not many would disagree.

Bisping said in an interview that all fighters were chasing a dream and they should all get to compete in a level playing field. He said victories should come with hard work and determination and not performance enhancing drugs.

Bisping who swore to have never touched a performance enhancing drug his whole life has a good fighting track record in general and has only lost to the likes of Cheal Sonnen, Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson, all of whom have had a reputation for using performance enhancing drugs.

DraftKings is going big for UFC 192, and I love it. MMA on DraftKings is a seriously good time if you happen to order the fight, or if you decide to watch it at your local pub. It’s almost like watching your fantasy QB go up against your own Defense. You want your QB to throw touchdowns, but would love the RB to fumble for a defensive scope-and-score. Here, lets say you decided to take Evans. Of course a first-round knockout would be clutch for any DraftKings card, but a couple of takedowns, and fiver minutes of significant strikes wouldn’t hurt anyone. With this fight card, it’s almost impossible for the avid UFC not to watch and possibly pick a DraftKings card. Other than the recent drop-out of Hendricks due to an emergency room visit, this card is still one of the best of the year.

When you’re looking at the top of the card, and after giving my prediction on a recent post, let’s quickly talk about the main event, Cormier vs. Gustafssson. Cormier is the most expensive fighter in the entire pool. It makes sense because I believe he is going to score some serious points. Now I doing think he’ll get the 100 first round stoppage points, but I do believe he’ll get the 70 points for the second round stoppage combined with takedown, and SS points. I can easily see Cormier walking away from this fight with 110+ plus points. But like I stated earlier, Cormier isn’t a cheap get. If you think Gustafsson is going to shock the world, you can pick him up for 8,400 (Cormier is 11,000) and make room for all of the other favorites. So, if I were to pick a line-up, here’s one I like;

Coming to us LIVE from the Lone Star state of Texas is a Light-Heavyweight bout you do not want to miss! Champion Daniel Cormier places his title on the line against one of the toughest men that has every graced the UFC octagon, Alexander Gustafsson. After all of the recent struggles with Jon Jones, we all knew this fight was inevitable. Notwithstanding the murmurs about Jones not being able to compete making this match nearly moot, this are two of the best fighter the UFC has to offer. Each come into the octagon with their own fighting style which gives this match the X-factor. Coming off the the tile victory over Johnson, Cormier comes into this fight with some serious confidence. Gustafson on the other hand knows he is the closest person to defeating Jon Jones and taking that title away from him. Both these guy have what it takes to be champion, and this is how I think it’ll play out…

Alexander Gustafsson #2 – Contender

Whatever word the fighting world has come up that is the opposite of a glass-jaw, we should also place a picture of Gustafsson next to it. This guy stood in the octagon with Jon Jones for five-rounds and took it on the chin the entire round. He can basically do anything you need him to do. He’s a lean, and long striker with the ability to submit his opponents if needed. Gustafsson is going to want to stay on his fight and engage in a striking war with Cormier because thats the way he can win. My advice is just that. Stay on your feet and you win this fight. Cormier can strike but not with Gustafsson. Work on that take down defense, and move around and make Cormier chase you, then strike.

Daniel Cormier – Champion

Cormier is the Champion, I don’t care what anyone says about Jon Jones. Cormier has followed the rules and paid his dues to be called a champion of the UFC. This is going to be one of the toughest fights of his life though. I stated earlier that Cormier doesn’t want to get into a brawl-like match but that need to be with an asterisk. If Cormier can get Gustafson to the mat, he needs to just pound away, thats how he is going to win. He knows he can stand or match up with lean strikers, and thats a epitome of what he is going to have. He needs top come in with a plan of how to get Gustafsson to the ground. I don’t see just taking shots at the legs working as well as it would against a less formidable opponent. Cormier needs to grapple, slam this guy to the ground, and finish him off as fast as possible.

Prediction –

The championship belt isn’t going to be changing hands in UFC 192. Cormier is going to weather the storm at the beginning, slam Gustafsson to the ground and just beat him. This is going to be a referee stoppage in the third round. Cormier is going to maintain the belt and stand on top of the 205-pound class.
