Dana White had another fiery response to a subject that has been a hot topic over the last few months since an interesting pairing was announced.

It’s well known that Rachael Ostovich is slated to fight Paige VanZant. Greg Hardy is slated to make his UFC debut when he meets Allen Crowder in a heavyweight showdown. Both of these fights will go down at the upcoming UFC on ESPN + 1 event.

Since these bookings were set, White has been frustrated with the media over being questioned about the decision to put Hardy and Ostovich on the same card. While doing a recent interview with TMZ, White talked about this criticism, which most recently came from ESPN Reporter Ariel Helwani.

“I don’t give a sh*t what Ariel Helwani thinks,” White said (via MMAMania.com). Who the f*ck is Ariel Helwani to question anything we do? I think we’ve done a pretty good job in 20 years, I could give a sh*t what he thinks, or anybody else for that matter. If you’re that type of douchey … whatever you want to call him, you can make something out of anything. He’s on the roster, she’s on the roster. They’re eventually gonna line up on a card sometime. If you’re that type of reporter, you’d have something to say about it.”

Ostovich is a recent victim of an alleged assault and domestic abuse. Hardy, on the other hand, has a history of domestic violence in 2014.

Much has been made of controversial figure Greg Hardy heading into this weekend’s UFC on ESPN+ 1 card but the former NFL football player handled his critics with class at yesterday’s (Jan. 17, 2019) media day.

Hardy’s past is well-documented. The ex-NFL star was involved in an ugly domestic violence case in which he was accused of heinous acts. Be that as it may, both he and UFC President Dana White would love for people to “move on”.

ESPN’s own Ariel Helwani has been one of Hardy’s most outspoken critics. Helwani has stated that he doesn’t think Hardy deserves a high profile opportunity on such an important card. Furthermore, the award-winning journalist has called the UFC’s decision to book Hardy on the same card as Rachael Ostovich “tone-deaf.” However, Helwani had the courage and the decency to approach Hardy and clear the air with the former footballer.

Here’s what Hardy had to say to his detractors. (via Ariel Helwani’s Twitter):

Hardy To His Critics

“I would say two things, it’s a two-fold answer. One, you would not be where you are now if you were shooting for low-level journalism. The only way to get there is to shoot for the stars. So I encourage everybody out there to shoot for the stars,” said Hardy.

“Opportunities come and you have to take them. That’s the only thing that I am doing. And the other answer is, God bless you, brother. I would be just like everybody you’re talking about that wants to hate me or throw me away as a human being and devalue me and act like I don’t have worth if I sat here and said I’m upset with you because you have an opinion.”

“You are allowed to have an opinion and that should not affect how I feel about you because you have done no wrong to me man. You’re awesome,” he concluded.

Hardy went on to say that he hopes a time will come when he won’t have to answer for his past above all else. For now, however, Hardy must focus on Saturday night as he will be fighting Allen Crowder in the co-main event.

A lot has been made of Greg Hardy being on the same card as Rachael Ostovich at UFC on ESPN+1 this weekend (Sat., January 19, 2019).

Ostovich was recently a victim of domestic abuse at the hands of her husband. Hardy has a history of domestic abuse himself. There has been quite the media backlash towards the UFC for the decision, but Ostovich has come out herself saying it doesn’t bother her. In fact, she has gotten the opportunity to meet and speak to Hardy.

Speaking to TSN recently, Ostovich detailed how her conversation with the debuting UFC heavyweight went (via MMAjunkie):

“Ever since the article started blowing up, I knew, ‘I have to meet him,’” Ostovich said. “This is a fight. We’re going into a fight Saturday, and we need to make sure we’re not emotionally drained. I just want to make sure my boxes are X’d out, and I’m good to go on Saturday night.

“Speaking with him, I told him, ‘There’s no negative with me and toward you. I know the media can blow things out of proportion, but just to let you know, that’s not my character. I don’t care. I’m actually happy you’re here, and I’m happy you’re making a comeback, and I hope that me and you can work together on different sides and use it for good.’

“Show people that, no matter what, you can turn a bad situation into a good one.”

Ostovich will be competing against Paige VanZant this weekend at UFC on ESPN+ 1 from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

As for Hardy, after several appearances on UFC President Dana White’s “Tuesday Night Contender Series,” and a few amateur fights, he will be making his UFC debut.

The ex-NFL defensive lineman will face Allen Crowder.
