Count it five consecutive victories for middleweight mainstay, Derek Brunson who turns in a dominant UFC Vegas 36 headliner to submit Darren Till with a third round rear-naked choke — rounding out tonight’s nine-fight card.

Headlining in his third consecutive event, Brunson managed to utilise his wrestling to his advantage in each of the three rounds — scoring three successful shots over the course of the main event clash.

Attempting to mitigate the lethal boxing of Till early, the Sanford MMA staple managed to take Till down in the first, landing a series of bruising elbows and ground strikes whilst postured from half guard.

With more of the same in the second frame for the veteran contender, Brunson pressured a maybe over enthusiastic Till in the third to eventually take his back past the second minute mark.

Locking his hands under the Team Kaobon mainstay’s neck at the Octagon fence, the #5 ranked, Till managed to force an eventual tap — before calling for a championship rematch against either reigning champion, Israel Adesanya or former champion and incoming challenger, Robert Whittaker.

Below, catch the highlights from Brunson’s impressive submission success against Till.

UFC light heavyweight striker, Khalil Rountree Jr. is back in the winner’s enclosure following a two-fight skid — stopping former Cage Warriors kingpin, Modestas Bukauskas with a nasty second round technical knockout after landing a debilitating oblique kick on the main card of UFC Vegas 36.

Exploding early and often in the opening round, an uber-aggressive, Rountree Jr. closed the distance on cue and appeared to have broken the nose of Bukauskas with his boxing before the close of the first frame.

Trudging through with nasty leg kicks to the thigh of Bukauskas, the 31-year-old Californian drew a massive reaction from the Lithuanian with an oblique kick to his left knee half way through the second round, as the latter immediately reverted to the Octagon canvas as referee, Herb Dean stopped the fight.

Chikadze

Giga ‘Ninja’ Chikadze has his seventh straight victory in the UFC — comfortably outstriking Edson Barboza from the opening exchange en route to an impressive third round ground strikes knockout win to round out UFC Vegas 35.

Quite a measured approach early from both Barboza and Chikadze who both attempted to counter each other with kicks from the fence, however, the Georgian pulled away and likely stole the first round with more output in the closing minute as he eluded and rushed in with his hands.

Some good activity in the second frame for Nova Friburgo native, Barboza who appeared to be targeting the body of Chikadze, who in turn, looked to be slowing down and limiting his lateral movement ever so slightly.

Pouring on the pressure at the beginning of the third round, Chikadze clipped Barboza as the Brazilian entered, before dropping him at the fence.

Quite surprisingly, Chikadze looked to lock up a D’Arce choke, before catching and dropping Barboza for a second time as the Brazilian attempted to return to his feet, forcing referee, Jason Herzog to step in — awarding the Georgian his seventh consecutive Octagon triumph.

Below, catch Chikadze’s knockout victory over Barboza.

What a sensational way to snap a three-fight losing skid. Abdul Razak Alhassan took just 17-seconds to dismantle and fell Alessio Di Chirico — stopping the Rome native with a thunderous left high-kick in their featured preliminary bout at UFC Vegas 35.

Stalking the Italian early, Alhassan backed Di Chirico back to the Octagon fence, before launching with a huge right high kick as the latter shelled, connecting on his chin and sending him to the canvas unconscious, with referee, Herb Dean immediately calling a halt to the action.

Talented Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu player, Pat Sabatini has his second Octagon victory — in the form of a nasty opening round heel hook stoppage over Florida native, Jamall Emmers on the preliminary card of UFC Vegas 35.

The 30-year-old submission threat, Sabatini seemed to be facing some certain adversity in the opening frame, finding himself on the receiving end of a notable shot from Emmers — before uncharacteristically giving up his back on the Octagon canvas.

Defending a rear-naked choke set up attempt from Emmers, the two then scrambled into toe hold and heel hook attempts, with Sabatini prevailing with the latter technique, appearing to tear the knee of Emmers who required medical attention in the center of the Octagon as Bruce Buffer announced the official decision.

Cannonier

#3 ranked UFC middleweight contender, Jared Cannonier is back in the victor’s enclosure — lodging his fourth victory at middleweight via a very close and competitive unanimous decision triumph over former interim title challenger, Kelvin Gastelum to round out tonight’s UFC Vegas 34 card.

Cannonier gets off to a bright start in the opening round, offering up a wide array of punishing kicks, particularly to Gastelum’s outside right leg as well as switching in right kicks to the mid-section. Some decent movement from Gastelum in the first as well.

Utilizing his always-impressive boxing in that second round, Kings MMA staple, Gastelum landed a crisp left straight, resulting in a notable stumble back to the fence from Cannonier who appeared to have some trouble with the Arizonian’s striking in that frame.

Uncorking a massive check right hook, Cannonier dropped Gastelum early in the third round, before going mere millimeters wide with an immediate high-kick. Tremendous recovery from Gasteum from that shot who managed to close out the remainder of the round with some good strikes of his own.

Another very competitive round between the two with Cannonier still not appearing overly comfortable dealing with what he receives back from Gastelum ahead of the fifth and final round.

A lot of pressure in that fifth and final frame from Gastelum as has been his calling card throughout this fight, with Cannonier attempting to set up his shots from the fence whilst circling.

Catch the highlights from Cannonier’s victory over Gastelum below.
