Jan Blachowicz

And Still. Jan Blachowicz knocks back Israel Adesanya — handing the middleweight champion his first professional defeat, and preventing him from becoming a two-weight world champion held simultaneously — with a well-planned unanimous decision victory.

Patient and tentative first round from both as widely expected. Adesanya happy to remain on the outside and make his reads, however, Blachowicz is biting on almost every feint and twitch Adesanya is throwing out there. Couple of good body kicks for Adesanya as the round comes to a close.

Decent right hand finds the target for Blachowicz, followed by that left round kick to the body which he used so well against Dominick Reyes in September last. Some good clinch work for Blachowicz produces a slip from Adesanya, who partially eats a knee on his way up. Round kick from Adesanya just catches Blachowicz on the front of the cup. Brief stoppage in the action. We’re likely level, one apiece ahead of the third round here.

Another decent moment for Blachowicz in the clinch at the fence, however, Adesanya stings him with a right hook on the exit, drawing some worrying back steps from the Pole. Blachowicz again finding his target with a couple of stiff jabs from his orthodox right. Third round in the books. Anybody’s fight at this moment.

Backed to the fence, Blachowicz sprung with a counter straight right, catching Adesanya and freezing him just for a moment. Pushing through and scoring what could prove to be an important takedown, Blachowicz then assumed half guard. Moving to side-control, Blachowicz kept his pressure heavy on the top, with just under a minute remaining in the round. Fifth and final round incoming but Blachowicz definitely takes that fourth frame.

Another massive moment for Blachowicz just as it seemed Adesanya was starting to find his rhythm, the defending champion shoots with a double-leg. Success. Now moving to half-guard, Blachowicz forced a mistake from the challenger with the scramble to get back to his feet. Ending the fight with full-mount, Blachowicz again scores the round.

Below, check out the highlights from Blachowicz’s successful title defence against Adesanya.

Amanda Nunes

Untouchable. Amanda Nunes turned in a quite frankly, scary striking masterclass prior to submitting former Invicta FC champion, Megan Anderson with a dominant, unchallenged, armbar in the opening two-minutes of the first frame.

Landing with scary power in the opening exchange, Nunes marched the Australian down, uncorking a massive overhand right — which really sent Anderson’s eyes rolling in an instant. Backed up to the fence, Anderson ate another heavy right hand, before stumbling forward, almost into a double-leg of Nunes, more or less falling to her back.

Initially threatening with a rear-naked choke, Nunes rolled with Anderson, locking up first, a triangle, and then a triangle armbar — forcing a tap from the Queensland native with the latter.

Below, catch the highlights from Nunes’ dominant victory over Anderson.

Aljamain Sterling

In some of the most bizarre circumstances. Aljamain Sterling is the new undisputed UFC bantamweight champion. Suffering an illegal blow, Sterling was met with a huge illegal knee in the fourth round, resulting in a disqualification win for the Uniondale native.

A very competitive opening round between the two to get us started. Usual pressure and forward motion from Sterling, who also created some interesting scrambles — as well as landing a takedown. Yan with his biggest moment; landing a right hand, dropping Sterling for a moment, before himself scoring a takedown before the buzzer.

Another clinch heavy display from Sterling, who had Yan’s back standing for literally a split second. Parrying a lot of Sterling’s punches upstairs, Yan was getting outstruck, however, a lot those shots were either blocked or parried.

Very good third round for the defending champion, who began to piece together his striking up top. Sterling looking quite fatigued in that frame. Ray Longo encouraging Sterling to avoid laziness ahead of the championship rounds.

In a massive moment in the fourth round, Yan landed an illegal knee on Sterling, firing off with his right on a grounded opponent. Referee Mark Smith informed Sterling who was attempting to recover, that he had told Yan before the knee landed that he was grounded, which would make the foul intentional. Referee, Smith called off the fight as a result of the illegal knee — as a result, Aljamain Sterling becomes the new undisputed UFC bantamweight champion.

Below, check out the highlights from Sterling’s disqualification win over Yan.

Dominance. The only real way to describe American Kickboxing Academy product, Islam Makhachev’s arm-triangle victory over Drew Dober — extending his undefeated streak to seven straight fights.

Returning for the first time since UFC 242 in September of 2019, Makhachev returned against Elevation Fight Team mainstay, Dober — utilising his wreslting and offensive grappling, at the command of teammate and undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov.

Grabbing a single-leg in the center of the Octagon in the opening round, the Russian remained composed and patient in half-guard, before scrambling with an attempted armbar, with Dober gritting his teeth to survive to the second round.

Likely scoring a 10-8 round in the second, Makhachev scored an incredible outside trip, sending Dober to the canvas with a considerable impact at the fence. In the third — it was more of the same for the AKA trainee, With Dober forced to his back once again. Assuming half guard, Makhachev eventually secured an arm-triangle — forcing Eliot Marshall product, Dober to tap — snapping his three-fight streak.

Below, check out the highlights from Makhachev’s submission win over Dober.
