Igor Severino is set to make his MMA return after serving a nine-month suspension due to a disqualification loss in the UFC. The Brazilian earned his spot on the roster via last year’s season of the Contender Series where he improved to 8-0.

At just 21-years old with all eight wins coming by way of finish, Severino looked to be an exciting addition to the flyweight division but that all came crumbling down in his Octagon debut. At the UFC Fight Night event that was headlined by Amanda Ribas vs. Rose Namajunas at the Apex on March 23, he was disqualified for biting André Lima in the second round.

Lima complained to the referee and with visible bite marks on his arm, there was no denying what had just happened. As a result, Severino was cut from the UFC, fined by the Nevada Athletic Commission and suspended until the 23rd of December.

He’s now set to make his debut for European promotion OKTAGON on their end of year card, OKTAGON 65, which takes place at the O2 Arena in Praha on December 29. He will move up a weight class to face the promotion’s former bantamweight champion, Jonas Mågård, who previously lost the title to Felipe Lima who has since earned a debut win inside the Octagon.

Lima was very honest in the aftermath of his disqualification loss and the consequences that came with his actions. He now has the opportunity to put this behind him by moving on with his career. In a video posted by OKTAGON on social media, he announced his arrival.

“Hey guys, Igor here. I will make my debut in OKTAGON MMA against Jonas Mågård. I’m very excited for the fight, I can’t wait to go there and put on a show for everybody. Jonas, I see you soon, I’m ready. December 29th, let’s go.”

UFC commentator and podcaster Joe Rogan compared former UFC fighter Igor Severino to an animal.

Severino has one fight in the UFC and in the second round, he got disqualified for biting Andre Lima. It was something that was very rare to see. After the fight, Lima got a tattoo of the bite mark and Dana White gave him a $50k bonus for being bit.

Speaking on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience with Action Bronson, Rogan explained the incident and compared Severino to an animal.

“A dude recently bit a dude in the UFC and so the dude got a tattoo of the guy’s bit on his arm, which is hilarious,” Rogan said (via BloodyElbow). “Well, they disqualified the guy he was fighting, and he got the win bonus. I think the dude was trying to take him down, and he couldn’t take him down, and he bit his arm from behind, which is like f***ing so animal! That’s so crazy that people get to that state where they’re aaah f***ing just f***ing like [immitates biting].”

Action Bronson, meanwhile, was concerned about the bite and how deep it was after seeing the photo. But, luckily, Lima was alright.

Dana White Released Igor Severino From UFC

Following the event, and Igor Severino biting Andre Lima in his UFC debut, Dana White immediately released him from the promotion.

“Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters,” White said to KevinIole.com. “If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing you can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the NSAC.”

Igor Severino has not been paid for his UFC Vegas 89 scrap with Andre Lima.

Per a report from MMA Fighting, an anonymous source revealed that Severino’s fight purse has been withheld by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after biting Lima in the second round of their preliminary-card bout inside The APEX. There is no word on the amount as the NSAC does not publicly disclose salaries.

Immediately following Severino’s disqualification, Dana White revealed in a text message to combat sports journalist Kevin Iole that the Brazilian newcomer had been released by the promotion and likely faced serious consequences with the NSAC who oversaw Saturday’s event in Las Vegas. No word on what those repercussions will be, but a fine and potential suspension are likely.

Andre Lima cashes in on Igor Severino’s big bite

Lima, who was in good spirits despite brandishing a hellish-looking bite mark on his left bicep, later received the first ever “I got f*cking bit” bonus from the UFC CEO, who revealed that ‘Mascote’ would get an extra $25,000 for his trouble. However, White later doubled it to 50k after Lima hilariously had the bite mark tattooed on his arm.

In just a few short hours, André Lima got his first win inside the Octagon, a new tattoo, and $50,000.

Making his promotional debut at UFC Vegas 89 on Saturday night, Lima went toe-to-toe with highly touted prospect Igor Severino. After an entertaining opening round and an equally exciting couple of minutes in the second, things took an unusual turn when Severino appeared to bite Lima on the bicep during a clinch against the cage wall. Lima immediately protested which prompted referee Chris Tognoni to pause the action and take a look at the replay.

However, Lima had all the evidence they needed on his arm. Brandishing a nasty-looking bite mark, the bout was immediately called off with Severino being disqualified near the halfway point of the round.

In a hilarious twist to the story, Lima commemorated the incident by tattooing Severino’s bite mark on his arm which immediately earned him an extra 25k from White.
