UFC lightweight contender, Dan Hooker has pointed a serious accusation against division champion, Islam Makhachev following his successful title defense against teammate, Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 on Saturday – claiming the Russian utilized an IV (intravenous) drip in order to aid his rehydration following Friday’s weigh-ins.

Makhachev, the current undisputed lightweight champion, successfully made weight for his UFC 284 lightweight title fight with featherweight titleholder, Volkanovski during Friday’s official weigh-ins in Perth, Australia, before headlining UFC 284 the following night.

Securing a unanimous decision victory in a hard-fought main event clash against Volkanovski at the RAC Arena, Makhachev managed to land his staggering twelfth consecutive victory, and landed his first title defense since defeating Charles Oliveira back in October of last year.

However, according to Auckland native, Hooker, a training partner of Volkanovski, Makhachev had hired a nurse in Australia, and utilized an intravenous drip to aid in his rehydration process following his UFC 284 weigh-ins – labelling the Russian a “cheating dog”.

“Dumb c*nt thinks he (Islam Makhachev) can fly to Australia hire a nurse to give him an I.V and we won’t find out.” Dan Hooker tweeted. “Cheating dog.”

Hooker then claimed that anti-doping agency USADA were “doing f*ck all” in relation to maintaining a clean sport, with fighters facing a minimum two-year suspension if they utilize intravenous drips to rehydrate following weigh-ins.

“USADA doing f*ck all,” Dan Hooker tweeted.

“Prove me wrong,” Dan Hooker tweeted. “Bet cha (sic) can’t.”

Hooker then claimed that if Makhachev allegedly didn’t “cheat’ during his rehydration process ahead of UFC 284, he simply would not have defeated teammate, Volkanovski.

“He (Islam Makhachev) doesn’t cheat, he doesn’t win,” Dan Hooker tweeted.

When questioned on social media as to who he was referring to, Hooker named Makhachev, labelling him as a “cheat” once more.

“Islam is a cheat,” Dan Hooker tweeted

Himself facing Makhachev back in October 2021 at UFC 267 in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Hooker, the current #11 ranked contender suffered a one-sided first round kimura submission loss to the current lightweight champion.

Headlining at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia – featherweight champion, Volkanovski unsuccessfully attempted to land the undisputed lightweight crown, dropping a close, unanimous decision loss to Makhachev over the course of five rounds.

Suffering four successful takedown attempts from American Kickboxing Academy staple, Makhachev, Volkanovski managed to outstrike the former in regards to total strikes – and even managed to land a fifth round knockdown with a single minute remaining in the fight.

And despite suffering his first Octagon loss, Volkanovski was praised for his performance against Makhachev by his training partner, Cormier – with the former undisputed light heavyweight and heavyweight kingpin claiming the Australian made Makhachev appear human over the course of 25 minutes.

“He (Alexander Volkanovski) was the first person since – even (Adriano) Martins, right – he didn’t make Islam (Makhachev) human, he just knocked him out,” Daniel Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “Alexander Volkanovski was the first person to make Islam Makhachev look human. Granted, he made him look human, but he still didn’t win the fight.”

“All in all, great fight – this was a tremendous fight,” Daniel Cormier said. “And to be this early in the year, this one has potential – because of who they are to still be in the mix for Fight of the Year by the end of the year, which is amazing. The people that were closest to Makhachev expected a very tough fight, this did not surprise him. But he won that fight, three rounds to two.”

It seems Conor McGregor believes Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski have left much to be desired by their performances at UFC 284.

In a highly competitive war, both Makhachev and Volkanovski put it all on the line inside the octagon. Volkanovski moved up to 155lbs for the title fight for the chance to become a prestigious double champion. Makhachev would not be having it, and he endured what was arguably his toughest battle in order to retain his lightweight championship.

While media, fans, and fellow fighters believed the fight was a thrilling brawl, Conor McGregor seemed to think otherwise. Unimpressed; he let his emotions be known in a now-deleted tweet.

Conor McGregor scoffs at the efforts of Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski

“Pound for pound wafflers,” McGregor’s now-deleted Tweet said. Clearly, the ‘Notorious’ wasn’t too keen on the events that transpired at UFC 284. However, he also wasn’t too keen on it beforehand, either. In another Tweet before the event, McGregor posted a picture of both fighters, titles on their arms. “My two old belts. On two little ticks. This fight does 10 buys.”

While once a true double champ in his own right, the years haven’t been kind to Conor McGregor. After failing to defeat Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229, it’s been a ‘Notorious’ downward spiral ever since. He came back for an easy win against Donald Cerrone in a very obvious “gimme fight” and has since lost twice to Dustin Poirier. Now, he’s looking to return from his injury suffered in the trilogy bout with Poirier against Michael Chandler.

The two fighters are allegedly coaching on opposite sides of one another on the UFC’s latest upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter, where they will square up and throw down in a no doubt gigantic PPV set to take place soon after the entirety of the season airs.

Are you looking forward to Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC?
