Jamahal Hill

Jamahal Hill is tired of being disrespected and decided to briefly take out his frustrations on sideline reporter Megan Olivi.

Hill’s journey to the light heavyweight championship was far from ordinary. After former titleholder, Jiri Prochazka vacated the 205-pound crown to focus on recovering from shoulder surgery, ‘Sweet Dreams’ was promoted to the UFC 283 main event, squaring off with Glover Teixeira for the opportunity to become the new light heavyweight king. Hill delivered a brilliant performance over 25 minutes to capture the title while simultaneously sending Teixeira into retirement.

On Saturday night, a new potential contender emerged as division standout Johnny Walker scored a unanimous decision victory over perennial contender Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith at UFC Charlotte. Following his victory, Walker spoke with Megan Olivi about a potential rematch with Jamahal Hill, this time with UFC gold on the line. During their conversation, Olivi mistakenly called ‘Sweet Dreams’ the division’s interim champion, a comment that quickly got the attention of Hill.

Interim Champ? @MeganOlivi that’s how you feel?” Hill wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

However, Jamahal Hill appeared to overlook the fact that Megan Olivi quickly corrected herself on the broadcast.

I immediately corrected myself! I’m so sorry, you know I have nothing but respect for you!” Olivi tweeted in response.

It didn’t take long for fans to chime in on the situation, prompting Jamahal Hill to confirm that he didn’t hear the entire interview and that everything was all good between the two.

Y’all chill on @MeganOlivi I was getting on a plane a didn’t listen close enough to the clip!!! She made a mistake and immediately corrected herself!! It’s always been nothing but love and respect between us!!!” Hill said.

It’s far from the first time that a fighter has criticized a member of the UFC broadcast, but it was a rare occasion to see a fighter issue an apology for making a snap judgment. Unfortunately, the situation probably didn’t do much in the way of earning Jamahal Hill respect among his skeptics even though his run to the light heavyweight title and his overblown spat with Megan Olivi have little to do with one another.

Jamahal Hill Likes His Chances Against Jiri Prochazka in Potential Title Tilt

Recent reports suggested that Jamahal Hill would make his first defense of the 205-pound title against Jiri Prochazka in August when the promotion returns to Boston for UFC 292. Unfortunately, ‘Denisa’ revealed that the proposed August date will be too soon for his return after undergoing shoulder surgery.

“August is still early for me because, and I keep saying this, I don’t want to just come there healthy in the cage and go fight right away,” said Procházka on the Fair Play Thinker podcast. “I want to come into the cage with the fact that I’ve broken down my style and taken a step and I’m a step ahead in my fighting style, my career, my mindset, everything.”

Jamahal Hill hopes that the pair can reschedule the contest soon as he clearly likes his chances against the heavy-hitting Czech.

“I feel like my skill level vastly surpasses that of his own,” Hill told MMA Junkie. “I feel like he’s a very physical dude. He’s strong, he has some natural, physical attributes, but the skill and the certain understanding on the level that I understand this sh*t? He’s not there. I was just watching his fights the other day,” . “He’s not that guy. I can’t wait to get him in there. I truly can’t wait to get him in there so he can really see what it’s like. It’s going to be funny. I’m going to beat the dog sh*t out of that man.”

Jiri Prochazka confirms UFC 292 title fight with Jamahal Hill is unlikely August is too early

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has all but ruled himself from a tentatively earmarked UFC 292 title fight with division champion, Jamahal Hill on August 19. in Boston, Massachusetts – confirming the timeline is likely too early for him, as he recovers from shoulder surgery.

Prochazka, the current #1 ranked light heavyweight challenger, has been sidelined from the Octagon since headlining UFC 275 back in June of last year in Singapore, where he captured the undisputed crown with a stunning fifth round rallying rear-naked choke submission win over common-foe, Glover Teixeira.

The Czech Republic native was scheduled to headline UFC 282 in December of last year against Teixeira in a title rematch with the Brazilian, however, was forced from the bout after suffering a catastrophic shoulder injury just weeks out from the fight. Prochazka elected to relinquish his light heavyweight title to boot.

As for Hill, the Illinois native minted himself as the light heavyweight title at the turn of the year in Brazil at UFC 283, defeating common-foe, Teixeira in a one-sided unanimous decision success.

Predicting a victory over Prochazka in an eventual fight, Dana White’s Contender Series product, Hill offered to fight the former as soon as August – at a planned UFC 292 pay-per-view event.

Jiri Prochazka confirms potential UFC 292 title fight is unlikely

However, despite initially outlining a potential August or September comeback, Jiri Prochazka has now revealed August would come too early for him to return to the Octagon.

“August is still early for me because, and I keep saying this, I don’t want to just come there healthy in the cage and go fight right away,” Jiri Prochazka said on the Fair Play Thinker podcast. I want to come into the cage with the fact that I’ve broken down my style and taken a step and I’m a step ahead in my fighting style, my career, my mindset, everything.” (H/T MMA Shorties)

Landing the Octagon back in 2020, Prochazka debuted with a knockout win over Volkan Oezdemir, before taking out multiple-time title challenger, Dominick Reyes with a stunning spinning back elbow KO in the pair’s championship-eliminator.

Jiri Prochazka unlikely to return at UFC 292 in August title fight with Jamahal Hill

Targeting a September return to the Octagon following a devastating shoulder injury suffered in December of last year, former undisputed light heavyweight is unlikely to appear before that targeted date, despite reports linking the Czech Republic native to an August 19. return at UFC 292 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Prochazka, the current #1 ranked light heavyweight contender, has been sidelined since he headlined UFC 275 back in June of last year, scooping the undisputed division title with a stunning fifth round rear-naked choke submission win over former champion, Glover Teixeira.

And ahead of a slated UFC 282 title rematch with the Brazilian, Jiri Prochazka suffered a catastrophic shoulder injury, forcing him from the T-Mobile Arena headliner in December.

Electing to vacate his light heavyweight crown to boot, Jiri Prochazka now sees the championship belt held by Dana White’s Contender Series product, Jamahal Hill, with the Illinois native capturing gold back in January of this year at UFC 283 in Brazil with a one-sided unanimous decision win over common-foe, Teixeira.

Jamahal Hill predicted a one-sided beating of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 292 in August

And despite targeting a Boston clash with Prochazka before the close of this summer, the Czech Republic native is reportedly expected to miss out on a planned UFC 292 card in August.

“For all the talks swirling around Jamahal Hill vs. Jiri Prochazka on August 19th in Boston, Jiri’s team has told Ariel Helwani that Jiri won’t be ready for August,” Meni Mayer tweeted. “Via The Ringer MMA Show.”

In the midst of a stunning three-fight winning run since his move to the UFC back in 2020, Prochazka, a former Rizin FF light heavyweight champion to boot, landed in the Octagon with a second round KO of Volkan Oezdemir, before finishing former title challenger, Dominick Reyes with a spectacular spinning back-elbow knockout prior to capturing gold against Teixeira.

Jamahal Hill warns Alex Pereira light heavyweight move there's an ass whooping waiting for you here

Undisputed UFC light heavyweight champion, Jamahal Hill has issued a stark and frank warning to former middleweight gold holder, Alex Pereira ahead of the Brazilian’s impending climb to the 205lbs division.

Hill, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, became the first fighter from the format to land Octagon gold back in January of this year in the main event of UFC 283, landing a one-sided unanimous decision victory over former champion and Pereira’s training partner, Glover Teixeira.

As for Pereira, the Sao Paulo native headlined UFC 287 back in April against arch-rival, Israel Adesanya suffering his first loss in the pair’s four-fight professional combat sports series, in the form of a spectacular second round one-punch knockout loss in Miami, Florida.

And in the immediate aftermath of his loss to Adesanya, Pereira, a former two-weight champion during his tenure with GLORY Kickboxing, confirmed his intentions to move to the light heavyweight limit for his next Octagon walk.

Alex Pereira sent a prior warning to Jamahal Hill ahead of his light heavyweight climb

And weighing up fights against former title challenger, Magomed Ankalaev, former champion, Jan Blachowicz, and the above-mentioned gold holder, Hill in his landing at 205lbs, Pereira has been issued a warning by the Illinois native.

“If I’m looking at it as far as fair for everybody else in the division, yeah, I would say he (Alex Pereira) has to win a fight [at light heavyweight] in order to get a title shot,” Jamahal Hill told MMA Junkie during a recent interview. “But his name brings some value, so there’s that factor.

“I’m not dumb to the fact that that could play a factor in somebody getting a fight,” Jamahal Hill explained. “I don’t care, bro. I really don’t care. When you get to this fight, it’s not going to be what you think it is. It’s an ass whooping waiting for you here. So whenever you decide to get that, it is what it is.”

Ahead of his Octagon return this weekend on the main card of UFC Fight Night Charlotte, Brazilian light heavyweight contender, Johnny Walker claims he’s “100 percent” ready for his first shot at divisional gold during his tenure with the UFC.

Walker, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, is slated to return to the Octagon for the second time this year, co-headlining UFC on ABC 4 in a matchup against one-time title challenger and perennial contender, Anthony Smith.

Johnny Walker rides a two-fight winning run into his UFC return this weekend

Last time out on home soil in Rio de Janiero at UFC 283 in Brazil at the beginning of this year, Johnny Walker, the current #7 ranked division contender turned in his second consecutive victory with a first round elbow strikes stoppage of Paul Craig.

Back in September of last year at UFC 279, Walker turned in the first submission triumph of his Octagon run, stopping Ion Cutelaba with an opening round rear-naked choke.

And ahead of his high-profile co-headliner with Smith this weekend in North Carolina, Straight Blast Gym Ireland staple, Walker claimed he was “ready” to challenge for light heavyweight gold off the back of a sought-after win against Smith.

“One hundred percent, I’m ready, but I’m going to keep training every day, and I’m going to develop my skills,” Johnny Walker told assembled media at UFC Charlotte media day on Wednesday. “You can get better every time you train, every camp you train, but depending on the performance that I’m going to put on, it’s going to tell me and everybody else if I’m ready or not.”

Currently, the light heavyweight pack is led by fellow Dana White’s Contender Series product, Jamahal Hill, with the Illinois native capturing gold on the same card as Walker’s stoppage of Craig – landing the vacant light heavyweight crown with a unanimous decision win over the former’s compatriot, former champion, Glover Teixeira.

Jamahal Hill eyes UFC 292 fight with Jiri Prochazka in Boston I'm gonna beat the dog sh*t out him

Expected to attempt his first defense of the undisputed light heavyweight championship later this summer in a long-awaited with former division champion, Jiri Prochazka, defending gold holder, Jamahal Hill now has a date in mind for their expected showdown.

Hill, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series, became the first feature from the format to strike gold under the UFC banner, securing a unanimous decision victory over common-foe and former undisputed champion, Glover Teixeira in their vacant title offing at UFC 283 in Brazi in January.

As for Czech Republic native, Prochazka, the former Rizin FF champion headlined UFC 275 back in June of last year against the above-mentioned, Teixeira, submitting the Minas Gerais native with a stunning, fifth round rear-naked choke – sans hooks in Singapore.

Suffering a debilitating shoulder injury ahead of a scheduled title defense and rematch with Teixeira back in December of last year, Prochazka elected to vacate his championship, in order to allow the division to carry on in his absence.

Jiri Prochazka eyes immediate title clash with Jamahal Hill in his UFC return

However, eyeing a return and immediate title fight with Hill in that comeback, Prochazka has been challenged to make an August 19. date by the Illinois native, who targets a UFC 292 return in Boston, Massachusetts.

“I don’t feel like it has to be a war,” Jamahal Hill said of a fight with Jiri Prochazka during an interview with MMA Junkie. “I feel like my skill level is vastly past that of his own. I feel like he’s a very physical dude. He’s strong, he’s got some natural physical attributes, but the skill and understanding on the level that I understand this sh*t? He’s not there.”
