Jamahal Hill is already locked in on a potential showdown with former middleweight champion Alex Pereira.

Following his second-round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, Alex Pereira is ready for a change of scenery. The Brazilian boogeyman revealed that he would be moving up to light heavyweight with eyes locked on the division’s top dog, Jamahal Hill. Welcoming the challenge that ‘Poatan’ brings to the Octagon, Hill took to Instagram, posting a short video clip with the caption, “Can’t wait to see you.”

In case it wasn’t already clear, Jamahal Hill made sure to tag Alex Pereira in the post, letting the world know exactly who he was calling out. It didn’t take long for Pereira to respond to the social media post. “I am coming and will kick your door in,” Pereira replied in the comments.

The List of Light Heavyweight Contenders Continues to Grow as Jamahal Hill Eyes First Title Defense

Jamahal Hill has no shortage of viable contenders after claiming the 205-pound crown with a dominant 25-minute performance against former champion Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in January.

With Alex Pereira already expected to make the jump to light heavyweight, it now looks like Israel Adesanya won’t be too far behind. Falling short in his bid for two-division glory at UFC 259, ‘The Last Stylebender’ is setting his sights on challenging Jamahal Hill in an effort to double up on UFC gold.

Of course, Jamahal Hill is not the type of fighter that backs down from any one man, but there does appear to be a sizable line forming near the top of the 205-pound weight class. Aside from Pereira and Adesanya, Hill still has former champion Jiri Prochazka to contend with once fully healed from shoulder surgery. You’ve also got a high-stakes light heavyweight scrap between top ten standouts Johnny Walker and Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith at UFC Fight Night on May 13 that could potentially produce a contender.

Things are certainly beginning to look a little busy at the top of 205, but the likeliest scenario will see Jamahal Hill defend his title against either Israel Adesanya or Alex Pereira. That’s where the money is and the UFC is in the business of making money. When and where that fight happens is anyone’s guess, but with Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic ruled out of International Fight Week festivities, there is an opening this summer that desperately needs to be filled fast.

Alex Pereira confirms move to light heavyweight after UFC 287 loss Israel Adesanya

Former undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Alex Pereira has confirmed plans to make a division climb to the light heavyweight limit for his next Octagon walk, following his championship loss to Israel Adesanya last weekend at UFC 287.

Taking main event status at the Miami, Florida pay-per-view event, Brazilian striker, Pereira suffered his first promotional loss in a championship rematch with arch-rival, Adesanya.

Winning the undisputed middleweight championship back in November of last year in the main event of UFC 281, Sao Paulo native, Pereira stopped Adesanya with a rallying performance at Madison Square Garden.

However, suffering his first loss to the Nigerian-Kiwi as part of their four-fight series at UFC 287 last weekend, Alex Pereira was stopped with a devastating second round KO from Adesanya in the ‘Sunshine State’ – with the latter chalking up his first victory over the now-former champion at the fourth time of trying.

Alex Pereira confirms move to light heavyweight division

Linked with an immediate move to the light heavyweight limit of 205lbs for his next Octagon walk by UFC president, Dana White, Pereira has now confirmed he will test waters currently swam best by Jamahal Hill for his next Octagon outing.

“Hi, folks, like I promised, I’ll announce you big news on my channel,” Alex Pereira said on his YouTube channel. “My next fight will be in 205[lbs] [division]. Yeah, you heard right – my next fight will be in 205[lbs]. I think I did my work in 185 and now I’m feelin’ good to go up to 205. Like I told you, when I’m feeling good, I will go up – this will be something natural. And now I think it is.”

Furthermore, Pereira claimed that if he wished to stay around at middleweight and pursue a title trilogy rubber match with Adesanya, the UFC would grant him that fight, however, he claimed the City Kickboxing native will not likely try to provoke him because he does not fight at middleweight anymore.

“… All of you saw the provocation from (Israel) Adesanya after the fight – he acts as if he has won against me three times,” Alex Pereira explained. “But it’s not like this. But I understand – or try to understand, the happiness he has. It was his dream to win one time against me. And now he did. But let’s see what will be his behavior. I’m going to light heavyweight because it’s a good option for me. But I’m sure if I stay in this division (middleweight), I can fight against him directly. Let’s see, how he behaves.”

Off the back of his middleweight title redemption at UFC 287, Adesanya was linked with a potential move to the light heavyweight limit himself, with head coach, Eugene Bareman weighing up a title outing against Jamahal Hill.

Furthermore, immediate title fight defenses against both the likes of Sean Strickland, and the surging Dricus du Plessis have also been floated since Adesanya’s championship victory last weekend.

Israel Adesanya set to pursue Jamahal Hill title fight next UFC 287

While ruling out the possibility of an immediate championship trilogy rubber match against Alex Pereira next, newly crowned division champion, Israel Adesanya has been linked to a light heavyweight move of his own against division titleholder, Jamahal Hill, by head coach, Eugene Bareman

Headlining UFC 287 over the course of last weekend, Adesanya reclaimed his undisputed middleweight title with a devastating second round KO win over Pereira in Miami, Florida.

Adesanya, who scored his first victory over the Brazilian as part of their infamous four-fight series, dropped his middleweight crown against the Sao Paulo striker back in November of last year at UFC 281 in Madison Square Garden in a fifth round TKO loss.

Israel Adesanya touted to pursue Jamahal Hill title fight in UFC return

Ruling out the possibility of fighting Pereira in a title trilogy rubber match himself following his redemption in the ‘Sunshine State’, Israel Adesanya has been touted to potentially pursue a light heavyweight title again, this time against recently minted champion, Hill.

“Let’s do it,” Eugene Bareman said of a fight between Israel Adesanya and Jamahal Hill during an interview with Submission Radio. “Let’s do it. And honestly, it doesn’t matter, it doesn’t matter [about whether we match up well with the current champion]. Like every fighter that you fight will have flaws. And that’s up to the opponent and the team to take advantage of them. So, Jamahal Hill, I’m not being disrespectful. I haven’t seen him fight yet. I don’t think. But i don’t watch the fights.”

“…If you’re a world champion, you’re the best of the best,” Eugene Bareman explained. “I’m sure. He is a very tough fight. I’ve seen him at the after party, I’m sure he is a nice fella. But it’s not about that. Like, it’s about the challenges, man. When you get to this level, it’s about challenges. Let’s do it. Sign it, like, get it done, boys. Can you get it done?”

Minting himself as the undisputed light heavyweight champion back in January at UFC 283 in Brazil, Hill, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series – managed to defeat Glover Teixeira in a one-sided unanimous decision victory.

Failing in his pursuit of duel-weight champion status back in 2021, Adesanya suffered a unanimous decision loss to former division champion, Jan Blachowicz in his first professional defeat.

Jamahal Hill predicts easy win over Alex Pereira UFC 287 I'm going dominate him

In the wake of rumors linking incoming UFC 287 headliner, Alex Pereira with a future move to the light heavyweight limit – 205lbs kingpin, Jamahal Hill claims he would “dominate” his middleweight champion counterpart if they share the Octagon in the future.

Taking main event honors at UFC 287 tonight in Miami, Florida, Sao Paulo knockout artist, Pereira attempts to secure the first successful defense of his middleweight crown, taking on former champion and bitter enemy, Israel Adesanya in a championship rematch.

Headlining UFC 281 back in November of last year, Pereira minted himself as the king of the middleweights with a stunning, rallying fifth round finish of former kickboxing rival, Adesanya, handing the Nigerian-Kiwi a standing TKO loss.

As for Jamahal Hill, the Dana White’s Contender Series alum clinched the vacant light heavyweight title against Pereira’s teammate, former titleholder, Glover Teixeira in the main event of UFC 283 back in January in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Turning in an impressive and one-sided unanimous decision victory, Hill has been linked with a title defense against former champion, Jiri Prochazka for an event in the summer.

However, in the immediate aftermath of Hill’s championship coronation, Pereira, a former light heavyweight champion under the banner of GLORY Kickboxing, was linked with a potential move to tackle the Illinois native.

Jamahal Hill welcomes future fight with fellow champion, Alex Pereira

And welcoming a potential future fight with Pereira ahead of the Brazilian’s return in the ‘Sunshine State’ tonight, Hill claimed he would “dominate” the former should they tangle.

“Come on in,” Jamahal Hill said of a fight with Alex Pereira during an interview with Inside Fighting. “I’m here for everybody. Just put a dish on the plate so I could eat. [It would be a] dominant victory for me – dominant. I’m going to dominate him.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie

Riding a four-fight winning run, prior to his championship win over Teixeira, Hill turned back the trio of Jimmy Crute, Johnny Walker, and former title challenger, Thiago Santos in successive knockout victories.

UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jamahal Hill is staying clear of the fighter pay issue.

While the UFC is no doubt flourishing, the issue of fighter pay still looms large, with many believing that much of the UFC roster, from debutant to highly ranked contenders, deserve to be paid more.

Those who have raised have often been left in the UFC’s bad books, leaving those who are still actively pursuing a career in the promotion, and are in need of money, in an awkward position.

Jamahal Hill talks UFC fighter pay issue

Appearing on the Point Forward podcast reining 205lb champion, Hill, expressed that it wasn’t his battle to fight and wanted to maintain good relationships with his employers.

Yeah, for like right now I just like, I’m just building bridges,” Hill answered. “You know what I’m saying? I ain’t nobody like that. I really like – regardless of anything, regardless of the confidence I have in myself inside the cage, I ain’t nobody like that bro…I’m just another motherf***er, for real…So I don’t go out thinking like – even like the influence, like I’m now realizing all right, like the influence and whatever, things like that, you know? But to me, I’m just me. That’s all I know how to be, that’s all I know. So that’s really all I am.”

Hill feels that regardless of his current status, he as an individual cannot make the deciding factor, instead opting to try and get along with everyone and play it safe.

So, like I could talk to some people, but I don’t know how much people are really gonna listen. So I don’t – for the most part, as far as the fighters go, I just try to be cool. Get everybody to talk, you know I’m open.

“I’m an open person, so like we can talk about anything. I talk to the fighters about that, I talk to them about bread like that. I think the main thing that needs to happen to a degree for us fighters, like the pay thing and all of that stuff to change. Fighters are gonna have to come together, to a degree.” (H/T MMANews)

Jamahal Hill is ready to follow Jon Jones into the heavyweight division for a champion vs. champion superfight.

The recently crowned UFC light heavyweight champion had a front-row seat for the return of Jon Jones at UFC 285 on Saturday night. After witnessing ‘Bones’ capture the heavyweight title in just over two minutes, ‘Sweet Dreams’ spoke with InsideFighting backstage at T-Mobile Arena to share his thoughts on the jaw-dropping main event.

“I think (his performance) was phenomenal,” Hill said. “I think he is definitely one of the greatest, and probably the greatest talent we’ve ever seen.” “I’m happy for him, man. That was a phenomenal performance. He went in and made it look easy.”

Asked about a potential meeting with Jon Jones down the line, Jamahal Hill said he would love to follow ‘Bones’ up to heavyweight for a potential superfight once he’s cleared out the 205-pound division.

“I’m down to follow him up and fight him right after I run out of challengers here where I’m at,” Hill said before answering if he could defeat Jones. “I think I can beat everybody.”

Jamahal Hill Looks Ahead to Showdown with Jiri Prochazka

Before looking ahead to a potential title fight with Jones, Jamahal Hill will likely find himself standing across from former UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka. The two men were spotted sitting next to one another and had their first official face-off at T-Mobile Arena on Saturday. Discussing his first 205-pound title defense, ‘Sweet Dreams’ shared his excitement over the inevitable scrap.

“I can’t wait to get him in there, for real,” Hill said. “He don’t look scared. He look like he thinks he’s ready to go. We’re gonna find out. Hopefully (I fight) him (next).”

In June, Prochazka captured the light heavyweight title in an instant classic with the recently retired Glover Teixeira. ‘Denisa’ was scheduled to defend the title in a highly anticipated rematch in December, but a severe shoulder injury forced Prochazka to withdraw from the bout, vacating the UFC light heavyweight championship in the process.

It was then that Jamahal Hill stepped up to square off with Teixeira for the vacant title at UFC 283. ‘Sweet Dreams’ delivered a masterful performance through five rounds to capture his first piece of UFC gold. Texeira retired following the bout.
