UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Ji?í Procházka has decided who he wants to stand opposite from inside the Octagon for his first title defense. At UFC 275 last month, Procházka completed a fairytale start to his UFC career. Having knocked out Volkan Oezdemir and Dominick Reyes to earn a high ranking and shot at gold, “Denisa”…

Following his third-round win over Aleksandar Rakic in May, Jan Blachowicz expects the UFC to give him the first crack at new UFC light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka.
At UFC 275, Prochazka defeated UFC mainstay, Glover Teixeira, in an absolute war that many called a potential Fight of the Year candidate. It was a back-and-forth affair that saw both fighters on the cusp of a finish. In the end, the Czech fighter scored a rear-naked choke with just 28 seconds left in the fifth round to get the submission and his first piece of UFC gold.
While speaking to The Schmo, Blachowicz discussed a potential title bout with Prochazka and admitted that he would be upset should the UFC move forward with an immediate rematch between the new world champion and Teixeira.
“Of course, I will. And he will be upset when they give me this title shot. It’s normal, yeah? But I think, yeah, I would like to prove the world that I will just get this belt back.”
Jan Blachowicz Wants to Face Jiri Prochazka in a ‘Battle For Europe’
Despite early rumors that the UFC may be considering a rematch of the UFC 275 main event, Blachowicz believes that the UFC will give him the opportunity to reclaim the light heavyweight title next.
“I believe in that. I believe everything what you say right now…I don’t think they would not give it to me. But if [I’m not given a title shot], I don’t care. I never choose my opponent.”
Jan Blachowicz laid down the challenge to Jiri Prochazka on Twitter calling it the “Battle of Europe.” Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, the new light heavyweight king expressed an interest in taking on the Polish pounder, calling him the “most dangerous man” in the division, aside from himself of course.
“I think the most dangerous man here in the light heavyweight division, after me, under me, there is Jan Blachowicz — and I think he can be the next challenger of me.”
UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has taken issue with how fellow contender Jan Blachowicz has acted since his victory over Aleksandar Raki? last month. UFC light heavyweight Anthony Smith has taken issue with how fellow contender Jan Blachowicz has acted since his victory over Aleksandar Raki? last month.
In the main event of UFC Vegas 54, European elites Blachowicz and Raki? collided inside the Octagon. While the Polish powerhouse was looking to rebound from his disappointing title defeat against Glover Teixeira, the Austrian was hoping to secure his first championship opportunity.
While Raki? was left requiring surgery on a torn ACL and looking ahead to a lengthy period on the sidelines, Blachowicz exited the Apex back in the win column and believing that he’d secured the chance to regain the title next time out.
While some would attach an asterisk to the result given his opponent’s injury, the #2-ranked contender sees things differently. During the post-fight press conference, Blachowicz suggested that his body was simpler tougher than Raki?’s on the night.
“Of course, I’m a fighter, I’m a warrior. It’s better when you win by TKO, KO, submission, clean,” said Blachowicz. “But my body was tougher tonight, that’s it, end of story. I was ready for third, fourth, five rounds; he was not.”
Smith: Blachowicz Doesn’t Get To Demand A Title Shot After That Win
One man who firmly disagrees with Blachowicz’s stance is his fellow top-five light heavyweight contender Smith.
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, “Lionheart,” who is looked to secure a title shot of his own when he faces Magomed Ankalaev on July 30, said that he’d behave very differently had he picked up a victory in the same way as the Pole did last month.
“Listen, I’m not the biggest fan of Raki? and he’s not the biggest fan of me. But in my opinion, he was winning the fight before he got injured,” said Smith. “I guess I just always kick back to how I would react. Like, if I got the title in a way that was other than winning it, I would never hold the belt. We talked about it with Aljo (Aljamain Sterling) before he really won it. You don’t walk round with the title if you didn’t actually win it.
“If you win a fight off an injury default, you don’t get to go politic your way into things off that win,” added Smith. “It just doesn’t work like that. Maybe it will work, who knows? But it’s not how I would probably do it.”
The 39-year-old even made the trip to Singapore for this past weekend’s pay-per-view, where he appeared to have a heated interaction with newly-crowned titleholder Procházka following the Czech star’s memorable victory.
But while Blachowicz perhaps feels his shot is in the bag, Smith is hoping to change that with an impressive performance at UFC 277.
UFC President Dana White also dealt a blow to the Polish light heavyweight’s hopes pre-UFC 275 when he suggested that the bout between Smith and Ankalaev will serve as a title eliminator.
Do you agree with Anthony Smith’s take on Jan Blachowicz?

Kamaru Usman draws Leon Edwards in a title rematch at UFC 278 in August
Usman, who has spent the entirety of his UFC run as a welterweight, is set to return to the Octagon in the main event of UFC 278 on August 20. in Salt Lake City – rematching the surging #2 ranked, Leon Edwards in a bid to land successful title defense number six.
The Auchi native had previously detailed how he had intended to eventually skip a middleweight division move and move all the way to 205lbs – with sights fixed on clashing with the aforenoted, Blachowicz, before his title loss to Teixeira.
“I just rewatched the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship (fight), I believe @USMAN84kg (Kamaru Usman) will beat Jiri (Prochazka), Jan (Blachowicz) and Glover (Teixeira),” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted. “Not trash talking, but this is real.”
In a follow-up post, Abdelaziz claimed that Usman was never supposed to achieve welterweight spoils, and because he has, it gives him solace that he can land light heavyweight helpings.
“He (Kamaru Usman) wasn’t supposed to be here and he’s the king now (sunglasses emoji) (Nigerian flag emoji),” Ali Abdelaziz tweeted.
During his run as undisputed welterweight champion, Usman has managed to land five successful defenses of the throne – handing a pair of losses to both Jorge Masvidal, and Colby Covington, as well as a knockout win over former Sanford MMA training partner, Gilbert Burns.

This past Saturday, Jiri Prochazka became the new undisputed UFC Light Heavyweight champion when he dethroned Glover Teixeira at UFC 275. He rose to the occasion in the most dramatic way possible with less than 30 seconds left on the clock. In a close-fought battle that Teixeira seemed to be on top of, Prochazka managed to secure a win in the fifth round by submission (rear-naked choke).
Prochazka went into the fourth and fifth rounds for the first time. Prior to the title fight, he had never had a bout go past round three for over a decade since starting his professional career in 2012.
Jiri Prochazka reveals interaction with Jan Blachowicz
Former 205-lbs title holder Jan Blachowicz was in attendance at Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore. He was seen talking to the new king of the division after the fight for a shot at the gold.
In the post-fight press conference at UFC 275, Jiri Prochazka talked about the interaction he had with the top contender who’s likely to be his next opponent.
“It was little bit friendly, little bit aggressive,” Prochazka said. “After I said him yes, okay let’s go, you’re the next. He started to be aggressive like because he saw the cameras and all these things. I think he tried to flex a little bit.”
When a member of the press asked Prochazka if he blew Blachowicz a kiss based on the footage of the interaction online, ‘Denisa’ revealed the conversation he had with the former champion.
“I said (to) him, ‘I love you!’ because he was so aggressive, yeah,” Prochazka added. “First, he was smiling to me and everything, and it was good. After the fight it was aggressive, ‘I want to fight, I want to fight’ so I said, ‘I love you, Jan!’. Let’s talk in the cage like that.”
Do you think ‘BJP’ will be able to defend his belt against Blachowicz?
UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Glover Teixeira believes that Jan Blachowicz’s victory over Aleksandar Raki? was enough to earn him a title shot. Having lost the championship to Teixeira at UFC 267 last October, Blachowicz entered 2022 with redemption on his mind, starting with a rebound performance over fellow top-five contender Raki?. After their booking was…
After their booking was delayed following an injury for the Polish powerhouse, the pair finally collided in the main event of UFC Vegas 54 earlier this month. While Blachowicz secured the bounce-back win he was after, it didn’t come the way he’d have hoped.
Early in the third round, an advancement from Blachowicz forced “Rocket” to take a step back, a move that turned out to be fight-ending. After the Austrian fell to the ground clutching his knee, referee Mark Smith waved off the contest. It was later confirmed that Raki? suffered a torn ACL.
While some fans have claimed that the way in which Blachowicz defeated Raki? should put a dent in his hopes to challenge for gold next, the man occupying the throne sees the situation differently.
During a recent appearance on The MMA Hour, Teixeira said that given Raki?’s place in the championship conversation, it only makes sense for Blachowicz to now be behind “Denisa” in the queue. The Brazilian also dismissed the idea that the manner of the Pole’s win should affect his chances of competing for the belt.
“That’s not my job to pick. The reason I say (Blachowicz deserves it) is that he’s number two and he fought Raki?, and Raki? was in the line for the title,” noted Teixeira. “That’s the reason I say. I said, ‘If Raki? wins, he’s gonna fight for the title next, no doubt about it.’ He wanted to jump in before Ji?í.
“And Jan beat him, whatever (the circumstances). You go over there, my friend, you go over there to fight and whatever happens, happens,” added Teixeira. “And that’s why I think Jan is next, man. It was gonna be Raki? and now it can be Jan… Who else would be next?”
