Jan Blachowicz and Daniel Cormier had a short-lived internet war on Tuesday.

Blachowicz took issue with Cormier’s recent comments claiming that Jon Jones only wanted to return to the light heavyweight division because Blachowicz — the new champion — was an easier fight than Dominick Reyes.

“Jones beats Blachowicz. Too slow,” Cormier told ESPN’s Ariel Helwani recently (via MMA Junkie). “(Blachowicz is) too slow to beat … because the thing about Jones people don’t realize, he’s got a good chin. You can hit him. I hit him. A lot of us hit him. He can take punches, man.

“If Jan Blachowicz is out there, and he’s too slow, Jones would pick him apart. If I was still fighting at 205 – or if I was still fighting today – and you said, ‘DC, you can fight Jan Blachowicz,’ I’d probably fight Jan Blachowicz. No disrespect.”

That led to a heated response from Blachowicz.

“Hey @dc_mma! If you have so much to say about me, get your fat ass off the couch and come to the Octagon. I’ll teach you some respect.”

It didn’t take long for Cormier to respond as he went the respectful route.

“No chance champ, congrats on a big win. You’re the man! You’re the king now, you shouldn’t worry bout what an old retired man is saying. Great job getting that title!”

Blachowicz was pleased the matter was settled then and there.

“Okey, that’s nice. An Internet war is over :). #ChampsRespect”

A rare wholesome moment at the top of the light heavyweight division.

Thiago Santos Confident Of Knocking Out Blachowicz Again In A Rematch

UFC light-heavyweight contender Thiago Santos is confident he will be able to knock out the newly crowned 205lb champion Jan Blachowicz for a second time if they rematch for the title.

Blachowicz captured the belt recently made vacant by Jon Jones by stopping Dominick Reyes inside two rounds at UFC 253 this past weekend. Santos is actually the last man to beat Blachowicz who stretched his win streak to four on ‘Fight Island’. The Brazilian stopped Blachowicz in the third round of their 2019 bout. Santos earned a title shot with the win but came up short against Jon Jones who got a controversial split decision win to retain his title against Santos at UFC 239.

Speaking to MMA Junkie Santos expressed his belief that the Blachowicz who won the light-heavyweight title against Reyes is no better than the fighter he fought last year, he said.

“I didn’t see him so different. Sure, he has more experience. Everyone tries to learn and improve their game, but I didn’t see such a difference between Blachowicz now and Blachowicz who I fought before.”

“I told my friends, people close to me, and I knew Blachowicz could win the fight by TKO, so I called it,” Santos said. “I knew before. Blachowicz has hands, has power, and Dominick should have moved more. He wasn’t moving well; I felt he was a little bit strange. He did the wrong game. He should have moved, but he went to fight, and Blachowicz he’s good in 50-50 fight, he’s dangerous. He has hands, so I think Dominick did the wrong game (plan) and Blachowicz did what he should do.”

Before he can fight for the 205lb belt once again Santos must first get past Glover Teixeira who is also hoping to secure his second shot at UFC gold. ‘Marreta’ is excited by the prospect of beating his countryman later this year before turning his attention to a rematch with Blachowicz.

“I’m so excited for that opportunity, but my focus now is on Glover Teixeira my next fight,” Santos said. “I need to show everyone that I deserve the opportunity for the belt again, and I will do it. After I win against Glover Teixeira, sure, my focus is going to be on Blachowicz and a title shot.”

Daniel Cormier Thinks Jones Was Scared To Rematch Reyes

Daniel CormierFormer dual-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier believes Jon Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight title out of fear. ‘DC’ think Jones wanted to avoid a Dominick Reyes fight at all costs but will now return to 205lbs after Jan Blachowicz became the new light-heavyweight king by knocking out Reyes at UFC 253. Former dual-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier believes Jon Jones relinquished his light-heavyweight title out of fear. ‘DC’ think Jones wanted to avoid a Dominick Reyes fight at all costs but will now return to 205lbs after Jan Blachowicz became the new light-heavyweight king by knocking out Reyes at UFC 253.

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on ESPN Cormier discussed Blachowicz’s title win and Jones tweeting in the aftermath about potentially fighting the Poland native instead of competing at heavyweight as planned.

“That’s so whack,” Cormier said. “Have you ever met a guy that’s so out of touch? He’s so out of touch. It’s like, OK, Jon, then why not just go, ‘I was afraid of Dominick Reyes. Now I want to go back to 205 and fight Jan Blachowicz because he beat Dom’? That’s crazy. I mean, who does that? Who does that?

“He could have fought Reyes. This could have been him and Reyes (Saturday). This was supposed to be him and Reyes. Instead, he gave up the belt. He gave up the belt and said, ‘I want to fight at heavyweight.’ Now, ‘Maybe, I’ll go back?’ How could you be so out of touch? I don’t get it.”

Although Cormier thinks Jones moving back down to challenge Blachowicz is “whack” he also believes ‘Bones’ would be smart to take on the new champion due to the fact he believes it is a very winnable fight for his long-time rival.

“(Blachowicz) is too slow to beat (Jones),” Cormier said. “The thing about Jones is people don’t realize he’s got a good chin. You can hit him. I hit him. A lot of us hit him. He can take punches. If Jan Blachowicz is out there and he’s too slow, Jones will pick him apart. God, I can’t believe it. Look, if I was still fighting at 205 or if I was still fighting today and you said, ‘D.C., you can fight Jan Blachowicz,’ I’d probably fight Jan Blachowicz. No disrespect, just because I think… it’s surprising, right?

“When you have footage of people getting old victories over him, you think you can do it, too. Any fighter does. If you’re a guy like myself or Jones, then, of course, you think you can beat him. That’s why Jones will go fight him.” (Transcribed by MMA Junkie)

The new UFC light-heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was met by an army of fans when he arrived back in Poland following a successful trip to Abu Dhabi.

Blachowicz squared off against Dominick Reyes in the UFC co-main event on Saturday (September 26) with the recently vacant 205lb title on the line. The 37-year-old entered the fight as the underdog but proved the oddsmakers wrong by making quick work of Reyes to become UFC light-heavyweight champion.

Blachowicz enjoyed a successful first round and was able to dictate the pace of the fight, land shots, and hurt Reyes with nasty kicks to the body. In the second he closed the show. Both fighters traded shots early into the second stanza but Blachowicz got the better of it. A clearly wobbled Reyes started to move backward but the Polish power puncher swarmed for the finish.

The first ever Polish UFC champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was quick to revel in her countryman’s victory and it appears the people of Poland share her excitement as many of them chose to meet Blachowicz at the airport as he returned with his new UFC belt – check it out.
