Jared Cannonier has had a tough time locking down an opponent for UFC 248.

Initially, Cannonier was scheduled to face Robert Whittaker at the pay-per-view (PPV) event. However, Whittaker pulled out of the card for personal reasons that have yet to be confirmed. Then, it was said that Cannonier would face former UFC welterweight title challenger Darren Till. Unfortunately, Till hasn’t agreed to the fight as there are conflicting reports that he’s dealing with an injury or simply can’t come to a financial agreement with the UFC.

In the meantime, Cannonier is trying to secure an opponent for the PPV. He recently took to Instagram and suggested to UFC president Dana White that they match him up with former interim 185-pound title challenger Kelvin Gastelum.

“5 weeks out from UFC 248 and still no fight. @robwhittakermma can’t make it. @darrentill2 is still thinking about it. I’ve got people asking me left and right if they can go ahead and buy tickets and plan trips to Vegas @mickmaynard2 @danawhite @ufc if Darren won’t fight and @yoelromeromma can get a title shot on a 2 fight L streak, then give @kgastelum a contenders match on one too. This is me waiting to hear back.”

Cannonier has been extremely impressive since jumping up to middleweight. He is currently on a three-fight win streak since cutting down to middleweight from the light heavyweight division. With wins over the likes of David Branch, Anderson Silva, and Jack Hermansson, Cannonier is just a win or two away from a title shot.

What do you think about Cannonier calling out Gastelum for UFC 248?

Darren Till Not Injured, Hasn’t Got ‘Right Deal’ To Fight Jared Cannonier

Darren Till claims it is money, not an injury, that is holding up a potential fight with Jared Cannonier.

Cannonier was originally scheduled to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. However, the latter had to pull out for undisclosed personal reasons. Many have since called for Till to be the obvious replacement to step in and face Cannonier.

However, UFC president Dana White recently revealed that Till was nursing an injured ankle and would not be able to replace Whittaker.

Not according to the Liverpool native, though.

He claims he has a few niggles but nothing that would prevent him from fighting. Instead, his management finding the right deal is the only roadblock at this point.

“When I heard Rob was injured I was already working hard in the gym so we upped a bit knowing I could get the call for March 7,” Till told Jim Edwards. “I’ve had a few little niggles, as always, but I’m still willing and able.

“My management haven’t got the right deal yet, but I’m hopeful we can still make it happen. Mark my words, I’m scared of no one.”

Cannonier vs. Till would certainly be a huge and pivotal matchup in the middleweight division if it ends up getting booked.

It would also add to what is looking to be a very strong UFC 248 card headlined by a middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Yoel Romero.

Do you think we’ll end up seeing the matchup?

Darren Till Injured, Won’t Face Jared Cannonier At UFC 248

It looks like we won’t be getting a Darren Till vs. Jared Cannonier matchup. Cannonier was originally scheduled to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. It looks like we won’t be getting a Darren Till vs. Jared Cannonier matchup.

Cannonier was originally scheduled to face former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 248 on March 7. However, the latter had to pull out for undisclosed personal reasons.

Till — who enjoyed a successful middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244 in November — seemed the ideal choice to step in. In fact, it was even reported that the matchup was in the works.

Not according to UFC president Dana White, however. At the UFC 246 post-fight press conference, White revealed that Till has an injured ankle and won’t be replacing Whittaker.

However, the UFC is still looking for a replacement opponent for Cannonier.

As it stands, it looks like Gastelum could step in to face Cannonier. After all, he is a former title challenger and hasn’t faced Cannonier before, even if he is on a two-fight losing streak.

It’s also imperative that a high-ranked middleweight matchup is on the card especially with UFC 248 being headlined by Israel Adesanya’s title defense against Yoel Romero. If anyone were to pull out of the main event, Cannonier or his opponent could step right in and save the card.

Who do you think should face Cannonier next?

Former UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has released his first statement since pulling out of his fight with Jared Cannonier.

Whittaker was set to meet Cannonier at UFC 248 on March 7 in Las Vegas. However, it was reported earlier this week that “The Reaper” was pulling out due to undisclosed personal reasons.

It is the third fight Whittaker has pulled out from since the start of 2018. However, the previous two were due to injury. This time, it appears Whittaker simply needs more time to reset as he posted on social media:

“I’m sorry to all my friends, supporters and family for not being able to fight in March,” Whittaker wrote. “A lot has happened over the 12 last months and I need to take some time now to be with my family, slow things down and to refocus.

“Sorry to everyone again but I’ll be back. The best is yet to come.”

There is no doubt that Whittaker suffered a tough past 12 months. He was set to defend his title against Kelvin Gastelum in February last year only to pull out after the weigh-ins due to abdominal pain.

He then headlined UFC 243 in his native Australia in October but would get outclassed by Israel Adesanya, who knocked him out in the second round to become the new middleweight king.

Hopefully, Whittaker is fully focused when he eventually makes his return to the Octagon.

What do you make of Whittaker’s response?

Former welterweight title challenger turned middleweight contender Darren Till may finally have his next fight. The popular Englishman is expected to face Jared Cannonier at UFC 248 on March 7, in Las Vegas. The American was set to face former champion Robert Whittaker on the card, but he pulled out earlier this week citing personal issues. According to Amy Kaplan of FanSided MMA, “The Gorilla” is the man who will replace him. Speaking on social media she said.

“BREAKING: I have confirmed with multiple sources that a fight between Jared Cannonier and Darren Till is in the works. Cannonier was originally slated to face Robert Whittaker at UFC 248.”

Till made a successful debut at 185lb by impressively beating Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244. The win snapped a two-fight losing streak after being stopped by Tyron Woodley and Jorge Masvidal. British fight fans have long been speculating about who Till will face. He sent them into overdrive earlier this week when he posted a screen shot of the weather in Las Vegas for March. However, this was prior to Whittaker pulling out, so fans where left scratching their heads about who he’d be facing. After the news about Whittaker withdrawing broke, it then became clear who the #5 ranked middleweight would be fighting. It’d be Cannonier, which is the perfect fight to make right now.

The 35-year-old has been on a tear since moving down from 205lbs. After suffering back-to-back defeats against Dominick Reyes and Jan Blachowicz, he decided to drop 20lbs. That division was proven right as he has since gone on a three-fight winning run. “The Killa Gorilla” has beaten David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson to cement his spot at #4 in the middleweight division. He’ll now likely face Till to decide who is next in line for the winner of Israel Adesanya vs. Yoel Romero on the same card.
