Jiri Prochazka confirms plans for a UFC return in September and title fight with Jamahal Hill

Former undisputed light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has confirmed plans to make an Octagon return as soon as September of this year following a devastating shoulder injury suffered last December – ahead of an expected reworked fight with Jamahal Hill.

Prochazka, the current #1 ranked light heavyweight contender, was scheduled to headline UFC 282 back in December in a title rematch against former gold holder, Glover Teixeira, however, in the weeks ahead of the fight, the Czech Republic native was forced to withdraw from the fight, after suffering a shoulder injury – one which UFC leader, Dana White claimed was the worst the promotional doctor’s had ever seen.

Deciding to relinquish his undisputed light heavyweight title, Prochazka was earmarked to make a return to the Octagon in a championship fight against the then-champion – currently, Dana White’s Contender Series alum, Jamahal Hill.

Jiri Prochazka provides an update on his Octagon comeback

Providing an update on an expected title fight return against Hill in the coming months, Prochazka confirmed he planned to make a comeback as soon as September of this annum.

“(My) shoulder is great,” Jiri Prochazka told LowKick MMA. “So, I’m working on that everyday. Last month, we did amazing work. That’s why I’m so happy for that. Everything’s going smoothly. Everything’s going step by step to be back [at] the end of this summer.”

“I wanted to be back in six months after this surgery,” Jiri Prochazka explained. “[But the] shoulder is not so easy to rehab because there is many angles, many things to work on. I think it will not be in six months, because I just don’t want to be just healthy and fight. I wanna be on the next level. Right now, I need something like one or two months and then I can start some improvements – some upgrades to my style, to push it to the next level.”

Opting against a rushed return to the Octagon, Prochazka confirmed he would return to training for a period of a month, before assessing his shoulder ahead of a September comeback.

“September,” Jiri Prochazka said of a timeframe of a potential comeback. “Something like that. Now, it’s April – I think I need for a finish to rehab and making a great preparation, four more months I think – I wanna practice, practice, and practice. And I will see after one month.”

Jamahal Hill betting favorite over Jiri Prochazka UFC

Despite forcing a five round decision against the veteran former champion, Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 back in January of this year, Dana White’s Contender Series product, Jamahal Hill sits currently as a betting favorite to defend his title successfully against Czech Republic force, Jiri Prochazka.

Hill, the current undisputed light heavyweight champion, headlined UFC 283 in January on hostile turf in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – landing the vacant division crown with a unanimous decision victory over common-opponent, Teixeira over the course of five rounds.

As for Prochazka, the former Rizin FF champion forced the creation of a vacant title at 205lbs, after he relinquished his light heavyweight title back in December ahead of a scheduled rematch with Teixeira – after he had suffered a debilitating shoulder injury.

The Czech finisher managed to mint himself as the light heavyweight champion inside just three Octagon outings back in June of last year against Minas Gerais veteran, Teixeira – landing a fifth round rear-naked choke win in their Singapore headlining clash.

Riding a four-fight winning run including his light heavyweight title victory over Teixeira, many markets that offer UFC betting odds have placed Hill as a rather impressive -155 betting favorite to retain his title against Prochazka.

As for Prochakza, despite boasting an undefeated Octagon record since landing in the promotion back in 2020, the 30-year-old is sitting currently as what may come as a surprise to some, a +135 betting underdog to recapture his title in an expected clash against Hill before the close of this summer.

29-3-1 as a professional, Prochazka, who landed inaugural Rizin FF gold with a victory over Muhammad Lawal, and then defended the crown against both Fabio Maldonado and C.B. Dollaway – made good on his UFC debut back in July 2020 on ‘Fight Island’.

Drawing one-time title challenger, Volkan Oezdemir, Prochazka finished the Switzerland native with a thunderous second round KO.

Returning in a headlining tilt against multiple-time title challenger, Dominick Reyes – Prochazka lodged a contender for Knockout of the Year in 2021, stopping the Hesperia striker with a devastating second round spinning back-elbow knockout at the Octagon fence.

Maintaining his undefeated UFC record back in June of last year, Prochazka ended the light heavyweight title reign of the above-mentioned, Teixeira with a hail mary fifth round rear-naked choke submission win – sans hooks, to boot

Himself also defeating Brazilian favorite, Teixeira in his championship coronation under the banner of the UFC, Illinois native, Hill became the first UFC gold holder from Dana White’s Contender Series to land gold inside the Octagon.

Prior to his championship win, however, the 31-year-old record consecutive knockout victories over Jimmy Crute, as well as Brazilian duo, Johnny Walker, and Thiago Santos to earn his chance against Teixeira at UFC 283 in their vacant title showdown in South America.

While an official pairing between Hill and Prochakza has yet to be booked by the organization, reports have suggested the UFC are keen on booking a light heavyweight title fight between the pair before the close of this summer.

Alex Pereira backed to beat Jiri Prochazka and win UFC light heavyweight title

Following the confirmation of his plans to make a move to the promotion’s light heavyweight division, former middleweight champion, Alex Pereira has been backed by compatriot, Caio Borralho to defeat Jamahal Hill, and former titleholder, Jiri Prochazka to mint himself as king at 205lbs.

Pereira, who held undisputed middleweight gold up until last weekend, headlined UFC 287 in Miami, Florida against Israel Adesanya – suffering a second round KO loss to the Nigerian-Kiwi in the pair’s championship re-run.

In turn, Pereira confirmed his plans to make the move to the light heavyweight division for his next Octagon outing – having landed four victories at five attempts in the middleweight pile since his 2021 move to the UFC.

Alex Pereira tipped to become a two-weight UFC champion

A former two-weight champion under the GLORY Kickboxing banner, Sao Paulo native, Alex Pereira – who has already been offered a title shot by incumbent gold holder, Hill ahead of a light heavyweight move, would likely make short work of opposition according to compatriot, Borralho.

“I’ll tell you this, he (Alex Pereira) can make history at 205 [pounds],” Caio Borralho told MMA Fighting during a recent interview. “Not cutting so much weight and fighting in a division that doesn’t have so many high-level wrestlers and grapplers, it’s the perfect division for ‘Poatan.’”

“I think (Magomed) Ankalaev could be the toughest fight for him [at light heavyweight]; a Dagestani with high-level grappling,” Borralho said. “He’s a southpaw, too, and we saw ‘Poatan” struggle when (Israel) Adesanya changed to [a] southpaw stance. I think Anklaev is one of the toughest matchups for Pereira – even more than Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill. I think ‘Poatan’ beats both fairly easily.”

Prior to his championship loss to Adesanya last weekend, Pereira minted himself as the division titleholder with a rallying fifth round TKO victory over the Nigerian-Kiwi at UFC 281 back in November at Madison Square Garden.

Confirming plans to make a move to the light heavyweight ranks, Pereira has already received callouts from former undisputed champion, Jan Blachowicz, as well as incoming UFC Fight Night Charlotte main card feature, Johnny Walker

As for Czech Republic native, Prochazka, the former undisputed champion is expected to challenge Hill next in his return to the Octagon later this year, after a shoulder injury forced him to relinquish his title in December last.

Jiri Prochazka true power against Khamzat Chimaev in UFC fight

Former UFC light-heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka responded to comments made by Khamzat Chimaev about their time spent training together.

Earlier this week, Chimaev appeared on The MMA Hour, calling out a litany of the roster from 170-205lbs. The 28-year-old would mention Prochazka by name, bringing up previous sparring sessions and would claim that he ‘beat’ him on numerous occasions during their time together at AllStars MMA in Sweden.

When he was fighting Rizin and I was fighting Brave,” Khazmat Chimaev said about Jiri Prochazka. “We trained together in the gym. We sparred — hard sparring, and I won many rounds. I submit him many times, I beat him many times. He becomes a champ. Now I don’t know maybe it’s too bad fighters in this division [light heavyweight].”

Jiri Prochazka responds

In response, Prochazka took to social media to call out Chimaev, ultimately calling out the Chechen to a fight.

“Man, which person needs to speak again and again about this four years old information? Gym, inside information. Man, when we will meet next time in a cage, I will show you my true power, I will not it lightly. Don’t speak about others too much”, Prochazka said.

Chimaev would then post screenshots of DMs between him and Prochazka, agreeing to the proposition.

“See you soon boy. Respect. Let’s fight in Sweden, June or July”, said Chimaev. (H/T BJPenn.com)

While the idea of the matchup is a fun one, the likelihood of it being next is extremely slim. Prochazka is still recovering from a serious shoulder injury which ultimately forced him to vacate his light heavyweight title and no timetable has been discussed by either the UFC or Prochazka for an Octaton return.

As for Chimaev, it’s been six months since we have seen him compete, with little in terms of plans being set — in fact, it’s not clear which weight class Chimaev will be competing at next.

Jiri Prochazka tears off toenail UFC return

Jiri Prochazka is no stranger to odd training methods that can sometimes lead to the occasional oddball injury.

Prochazka has made headlines for his highly unusual workouts which include punching a tree 500 times per day and locking himself in a dark room for three days without food to confront his ‘demons.’ Thus far, his unusual methods have seemingly worked as ‘Denisa’ captured the UFC light heavyweight championship in a knockdown drag-out brawl with recently-retired Glover Teixeira at UFC 275 last year.

Unfortunately, Jiri Prochazka was forced to undergo shoulder surgery before his previously scheduled rematch with Teixeira at UFC 282. Refusing to hold up the division, Prochazka vacated the title, paving the way for Jamahal Hill to capture the crown with a spectacular five-round performance against Teixeira a month later at UFC 283.

Still recovering from surgery, Jiri Prochazka is still committed to his unique training regimen and as a result, has suffered another gnarly-looking injury. In a video clip posted by Twitter user @HookerStinky, ‘Denisa’ can be seen near a body of water that he was presumably swimming in before revealing that frostbite had caused the toenail on his big toe to detach. In a rather squeamish sight, Prochazka casually removes his toenail before gently placing it back on in the clip which you can see below.

You have been warned.

Appearing at UFC 285 earlier this month — front and center at the T-Mobile arena, Czech native, Prochazka shared a stare-down with the above-mentioned light heavyweight champion, Hill.

Whilst yet to book his return from a catastrophic shoulder injury, Prochazka, a former Rizin FF light heavyweight champion to boot, is expected to challenge undisputed gold holder, Hill, in his immediate return to active competition.
