Dricus Du Plessis Makes Joking Remark To Israel Adesanya During Heated Faceoff

Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya came face to face once again during the press conference that went down yesterday, for their upcoming middleweight title fight.

Before the two rivals meet at UFC 305 on August 17 in Perth, they shared an incredibly tense staredown that is sure to build excitement for their eventual meeting.

Adesanya appeared to be the one to say something to Du Plessis first during the staredown which the middleweight champion was asked about after the press conference.

He jokingly made remarks about something that Adesanya’s last opponent, Sean Strickland, also chose to make fun of throughout the build-up to their fight.

Du Plessis referenced a video of Adesanya and his dog which appears to be a bit of a sore subject for “The Last Stylebender”, as was proven after the Strickland fight.

“I think he said, ‘Don’t kiss me’, as far as I know. I said I’m no dog so I won’t and you know, I don’t really know what he was saying. I wasn’t really focused on what he was saying.”

Jon Jones Says He Has Experienced ‘Spirit Channelling’ & Magic’ For Himself Following UFC 303 Controversy

Alex Pereira and Ji?í Procházka are two of the most intense individuals in the sport when it comes to fight night.

Before UFC 303 got underway, Procházka spoke about how he believed “Poatan” was using the help of magic and spirits in his fight, asking him to abstain in their rematch.

Whilst Pereira offered a classy response to this in his post-fight interview after beating the former champion, UFC heavyweight champ Jon Jones is the latest to weigh in on this.

He posted on social media about how there is some truth to this based on his experiences of stepping into certain arenas and coming up against specific opponents.

“There has been a lot of talk about spirit channeling and magic in MMA lately. This stuff is all very real. I felt all types of weird energies walking into those arenas. Looking certain opponents in the eyes. I want to let you all know that Jesus Christ is king, he is and always will be undefeated. Every knee shall bow.”

Nate Diaz Reveals How He Negotiated A Much Higher Purse For His First Fight With Conor McGregor

Nate Diaz has always been a cult icon in combat sports but UFC 196 was a moment that changed his life forever.

The Stockton fighter became a huge name overnight when he stepped into the main event on late notice to fight Conor McGregor in one of the most iconic moments in the history of the sport.

Diaz was well compensated for stepping up to save the day in place of Rafael Dos Anjos but he did have to put his foot down in order to get a much higher purse than was initially offered.

He told MMA great Demetrious Johnson during an interview on The MightyCast how he knew what his own value was at the time and made sure he was suitably compensated.

“At the time, it was (the biggest pay check I’d received). But they were trying to give me pennies for that too,” Diaz said. “I was like, ‘Yeah, right. I know what I’m doing here. I’ve been through it.’ I’d already been into it with the organization about that. So they called me and they were like, ‘Hey, while you’re going to do this, we’re going to give you a million dollars.’ I was like, ‘Hey, you’re gonna give me more than that.’

“So I got like five times more than that because of that. I knew the game by then and I was like, ‘F*ck that,’” Diaz continued. “Remember when I was telling you about how if I fight every two months, I could be rich. That basic math attitude kind of f*cking times 10, times 100, over and over again. So I knew what it was with the whole money in the business and sh*t. I might not be educated but I’m not stupid.”

Days after suffering a brutal knockout loss against Alex Pereira, former 205-pound titleholder Jiri Prochazka is already back to training.

‘BJP’ walked into his short-notice UFC 303 headliner looking to take back the gold and score himself a bit of redemption after going down against ‘Poatan’ seven months prior in MSG. Unfortunately, history repeated itself. Like in their first meeting, Pereira finished Prochazka in the second round of their light heavyweight title scrap in T-Mobile Arena, tagging the Czech with a perfectly timed head kick in the opening seconds and finishing things with some rather unnecessary ground-and-pound.

Just a few days removed from the disappointing result, Prochazka took to social media, revealing that he is already back to his usually unusual training methods, including punching a wooden plank with his bare hands.

Jiri Prochazka promises to ‘evolve to the next level’ after uFC 303 loss

Shortly after going 0-2 against the ‘Brazilian Boogeyman,’ Jiri Prochazka offered congratulations to his opponent and vowed to evolve “to the next level” in her pursuit of reclaiming the light heavyweight title.

“Hello everyone – thank you for all your support,” Prochazka said in a statement. “Thanks to you Alex for the fight. You was better. And only one thing goes on my mind, that I need to evolve to the next level or don’t fight again. So simple, to be the strongest, this is the way. Thank you. See you in the gym.”

Pereira is now 8-1 inside the Octagon with notable victories over a slew of former UFC champions, including Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill, and Jiri Prochazka on two separate occasions.

What’s next remains to be seen, but all signs seemingly point toward a clash with No. 2 ranked contender Magomed Anakalaev this October when the promotion heads back to Abu Dhabi for UFC 308.

Alex Pereira banks $303,000 performance bonus for his sick head-kick KO of Jiri Prochazka at UFC 303

Alex Pereira banked some extra coin for saving the day and delivering another highlight-reel performance during Saturday’s massive headliner in Las Vegas.

During an appearance on Monday’s edition of The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Pereira’s longtime coach Plinio Cruz revealed that CEO Dana White gave Pereira a $303,000 post-fight bonus following his successful light heavyweight title defense at UFC 303.

“He was talking to Dana in the back, and they were talking about a bunch of stuff, and Dana said, ‘As a matter of fact, you won Performance of the Night.’ And he said, ‘$303,000?’ He goes, ‘No, no, no, $50,000,’” Cruz explained.

”But reality of the fact is, he did not — they gave $300,000 bonuses for [UFC] 300 and [Pereira] did not get Performance of the Night. They gave two to Max [Holloway], so he was a little bit salty about that. And I think because of all their history and then taking the fight on two weeks’ [notice], Dana looked at him and said, ‘You know what, man? I’m going to take care of you. You’ve got the $303,000.’ He even joked, he said buy a supercar with that money. [Pereira] goes, ‘I’ve got enough supercars.’ He wants a Cybertruck.”

Alex Pereira

Pereira stepped into the UFC 303 headliner on just 16 days’ notice after the original main event, Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler, was scrapped when the Irishman broke his pinky toe while sparring.

It was the second time in a matter of months that ‘Poatan’ has stepped up to save the day, the last time being at UFC 300 when Pereira put his 205-pound crown on the line against ex-titleholder Jamahal Hill. Originally, Pereira was negotiating to run it back with Prochazka at UFC 305 on August 17 when they got the call to step in and headline this year’s International Fight Week card.

Could Alex Pereira become the UFC’s first-ever three-division champion?

Alex Pereira is now 8-1 under the UFC banner, earning wins over a heap of former champions, including Sean Strickland, Israel Adesanya, Jan Blachowicz, Jamahal Hill, and Jiri Prochazka. He is just the ninth fighter in the promotion’s 30+ year history to win belts in two different divisions.

Alex Pereira

Following his impressive performance at UFC 303, it certainly seems like Pereira could find himself with a shot at doing what no man has done before — winning belts in three different divisions.

“[Pereira] has actually a very special vision [when it comes to] timing, distance, and the angles in the way that he [approaches his craft],” Cruz added. “It’s almost like he has his own style of fighting. He just combines his boxing and the kickboxing, and the way that he just implements [everything] is just light years ahead, the vision that he has [for] the game.”

Pereira headlined this past weekend’s UFC 303 pay-per-view in defense of his light heavyweight title. The Brazilian, who previously held the belt at 185 pounds, was once again tasked with stalling Procházka’s pursuit of two-time status.

While the finish of their first fight back at UFC 295 last November left many dissatisfied and bemoaning the stoppage as early, that was not the case second time around, as “Poatan” brutally knocking “BJP” out with a head kick and follow-up punches on the ground.

As has become a common occurrence whenever he enters the cage, Pereira’s latest triumph once again had fans in the arena and at home on their feet yelling Joe Rogan-esque screams.

But one man’s reaction was a far cry from that…

Adesanya Reacts To Pereira vs. Procházka 2: ‘Damn, That’s Bad’

In a video recently uploaded to his YouTube channel, Adesanya and some of his training partners can be seen reacting to the events that unfolded at the International Fight Week event on June 29.

The Nigerian-New Zealander had a strong connection to the main event, having faced Pereira four times across mixed martial arts and kickboxing, defeating him once by way of KO last April.

Since the pair last faced off, Pereira has flattened his opponents three times with his renowned power. With that, Adesanya was seemingly not at all shocked by Saturday’s finish and remained stoically reclined on his couch as “Poatan” floored his Czech counterpart with a head kick.

“Damn, that is bad. Oh, that is bad,” Adesanya said in the immediate after of the finish. “This card was cursed”

Much has been made about the potential of Pereira and Adesanya competing their MMA trilogy up at light heavyweight down the line.

For now, “The Last Stylebender” has his sights set on regaining the middleweight gold and settling his grudge with another rival in Dricus Du Plessis, whom Adesanya has gone back and forth with for well over a year.

They’re set to headline the upcoming UFC 305 event in Perth, Australia, on August 17.

Jiri Prochazka vows to evolve or stop fighting after UFC 303 loss to Alex Pereira in statement

Suffering a second career loss overnight to two-time foe, Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 303, former light heavyweight champion, Jiri Prochazka has claimed he must “evolve” as a fighter after the shuddering loss, or consider his future in the sport.

Prochazka, the current number one ranked light heavyweight contender, headlined UFC 303 overnight on short-notice against Sao Paulo favorite, Pereira, attempting to avenge a prior November knockout loss to the former two-weight champion last year.

However, dropped late in the first round with a buzzer-beating left hook, Prochazka managed to make his way back to his stool for the beginning of the second.

Sent back to the canvas just 13-seconds into the frame, however, Prochazka was felled with an almighty high kick from Pereira – rendering him unconscious with a slew of follow-up ground strikes.

Jiri Prochazka vows to evolve or stop fighting after his UFC 303 loss

And likely seeing any chance of fighting Pereira again gone with last night’s loss – Prochazka admitted he must work his way back to the top, with both Jamahal Hill, and Magomed Ankalaev staking their respective claims for a fight with the dominant kingpin.

“Hello everyone, thank you for all your support,” Jiri Prochazka said in a video posted on his official X account. “Thanks to you Alex (Pereira) for the fight, it was better. Only one thing goes on my mind: that I need to evolve, to the next level, or don’t fight again.”

“So it’s very simple,” Jiri Prochazka continued. “To be the strongest, this is the way. Thank you, see you in the gym.

Majorly linked with a stunning heavyweight move in a bid to land a historic third Octagon crown, Pereira informed UFC color-commentator, Joe Rogan that he would like the chance to make the divisional climb

“I think that’s in my future,” Alex Pereira said of a heavyweight move following his devastating win at UFC 303. “You know, I said that the last time I was here [inside the Octagon]. There didn’t seem to be a lot of interest in the organization, but I’m here, and I’m available and I do think that’s in my future.”
