Johnny Walker believes the UFC is on “another level” and cannot be compared to Bellator. The UFC light-heavyweight contender made the comment after the newly crowned 205lb champion in Bellator, Vadim Nemkov seemingly declared himself the best light-heavyweight in MMA after dethroning Ryan Bader at Bellator 244.

“I feel like with all the changes going on in the 205-pound division and the calibre of opponent I just beat (the guy is a two-time champion in two different weight classes), I feel like I’m No. 1 right now,” Nemkov said. “To back up why I’m saying this, I didn’t just go through five rounds of a fight. I finished a top, top contender in decisive manner in two rounds. I feel like I’m No. 1.”

Nemkov made this comment after Bellator president Scott Coker declared his light-heavyweight division was the strongest in the sport due to the fact Jon Jones had vacated his title to pursue heavyweight fights. UFC boss Dana White has since responded calling Coker’s claim “cute” while simultaneously dismissing the Bellator light-heavyweight division.

In an exclusive interview with LowKickMMA Walker scoffed at the notion that Vadim Nemkov is the best light-heavyweight in MMA.

“The UFC I’m sure is another level,” Walker said. “The people in the UFC is better performance, in better shape and more ability. (It’s) the biggest event in the world.”

“You have to beat somebody and prove to everybody who is the best. So, you cannot see who is the best if you don’t beat the high-level guys,” Walker concluded.

Walker is set to face Ryan Spann on the undercard of Colby Covington vs. Tyron Woodley on September 19. The Brazilian power-puncher is hoping to snap a two-fight losing streak after falling short against Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov.

Do you agree with Johnny Walker? Is the UFC on another level compared to Bellator?

Light-heavyweight contender Johnny Walker has opened up about switching camps from Tristar in Montreal, Canada to SBG in Belfast, Ireland ahead of his fight against Ryan Spann on September 19.

Walker spent several months with his family in Brazil after his last fight – a decision loss to Nikita Krylov at UFC Brasilia back in March. The 28-year-old later traveled to Ireland on holiday with his girlfriend. Speaking exclusively to LowKickMMA Walker revealed once there the UFC approached him the chance to fight Ryan Spann in September, he said.

“After my last fight, I spent the lockdown in Brazil, almost three months or four months with my family there. It was a crazy time. Everybody with masks and the cases rising. After this, I was almost five months without seeing my girlfriend and she gets a holiday because she works in Qatar and she came to Ireland.

“When I arrived here to spend time with her on holiday the UFC offer me the fight (Ryan Spann) again because they offered me the fight when I was in Brazil. I couldn’t accept because I have no good gyms there to train you know everything is shutting down. So, it’s not a good time to accept the fight. So I came here to spend time with my girlfriend and the UFC offered me the fight again.”

Walker has previously spoken with excitement about his budding relationship with renowned MMA coach Firas Zahabi who runs Tristar gym in Montreal. To much surprise, Walker didn’t return to Canada to train with the man who helped shape the careers of Georges St-Pierre and Rory MacDonald but that wasn’t by choice.

“I couldn’t fly back to Montreal to train with Firas Zahabi,” Walker explained. “I messaged John Kavanagh and then I asked if he could help me with this training camp because I was here before and I know he’s a really good coach. I’ve trained with him before he’s amazing. He said he could train me, so yeah, here I am.

The 205lb knockout artist is enjoying his time at SBG and heaped praise on Kavanagh who he believes could help make him a champion, he said.

“It’s really good. John is really professional. He’s a really good coach. He knows how to make a champion. I hope he can make me a champion one day. He’s a really, really good coach. Everybody is really nice. All of the training partners are really professional. Everybody looks after everybody.

Walker is unsure if he will stay with SBG return to Tristar. He is refusing to think too far ahead in the middle of a global pandemic, he said.

“I want to stop somewhere. Be part of the team but you never know what is going to happen. You cannot make plans right now because of this situation. I hope it gets better soon because then you can make plans.”

UFC light heavyweight Johnny Walker recently talked about the recent news of Jon Jones announcing his move to the Heavyweight division and the subsequent vacating the Light Heavyweight title.

Standing at 6’6 Walker is one of the biggest light heavyweights in the UFC, and at the young age of 28 he is in the prime of his career right now. Unfortunately as he gets older, the weight cut down to 205 lbs is going to get tougher each fight he takes. Following back to back losses to Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov respectively, now might be the time to make the jump for the supremely talented Walker.

Walker, who is scheduled to fight Ryan Spann next month on a Fight Night card in Vegas, recently spoke to AG Fight and suggested that he is planning a move up to heavyweight. Walker says that he has been following Jones talking about a move to heavyweight and the Brazilian wants to follow him up a weight class in the future.

“The guy kept the belt for a long time, he is one of the best fighters of all time. He defended the title and now he will move up to the heavyweight category. And I think he still has a lot of history to do at heavyweight. It’s complicated when you change categories. Let’s see how it goes. This is also my future. I will definitely be going up for heavy duty in a few years. I will try to stay at light heavyweight as long as I can, I still have a lot to do in this category,” Walker said.

“Certainly when I get older and my metabolism slows down a little, in about three years, it will be very difficult to hit 205lbs. I get to 245lbs, of muscle mass, it is difficult to make 205lbs, it is a lot of weight. In a few years, it will be much harder to beat and I will not want to hurt my body so much. I have a lot of (physical) advantage at 205lbs, but I will also have an advantage in heavyweight. I am big enough and have the strength to fight in that category. This, for sure, will be my future.”

Certainly some intriguing words from a very dangerous and young prospect. How do you think Johnny Walker will perform in the Heavyweight division? When will he make this jump?

Johnny Walker is set to return to action.

As per ESPN, Walker is slated to face Ryan Spann in a light heavyweight bout taking place at the UFC 253 pay-per-view event. Both fighters have agreed to the bout and an official announcement should be expected soon.

After a meteoric rise in the UFC, Walker with three straight first-round knockouts, Walker finds himself on a two-fight losing skid. He was TKO’d by Corey Anderson at UFC 244 last November before getting outpointed by Nikita Krylov at UFC Brasilia in March.

He will be looking to return to the win column with a bang against Spann.

It won’t be an easy test, though. Like Walker, Spann is a 205 prospect who has won his last eight outings overall while being 4-0 in the UFC. His most recent win was a split verdict over Sam Alvey at UFC 249 in May.

UFC 253 has no confirmed location as of yet. However, it is expected that it will take place in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. A middleweight title fight between Israel Adesanya and Paulo Costa is expected to headline the card.

Johnny Walker says his ultimate goal is to become a two-weight UFC champion. He is planning to win the title at 205lbs before stepping up and doing the same at heavyweight.

Brazilian knockout artist Walker is coming off consecutive defeats against fellow light-heavyweight contenders Corey Anderson and Nikita Krylov. The 28-year-old isn’t letting his losses get him down and still plans to become a two-weight world champion in the next few years

Speaking exclusively to LowKickMMA, Walker promised he’d be committing 100 percent to becoming a multi-weight MMA champion and creating a good life for his family, he said.

“My main goal is to be champion in two categories. Once I get the belt at light-heavyweight I’m going to go to heavyweight and get another belt. It just needs time and I will be there. This is my goal. I don’t want to keep fighting for too long. I want to retire before my forties maybe like 37 or something like that.  This is my opportunity to get a good life for my family. I want to invest 100 percent of my time to get this belt and get this championship.”

The Tristar fighter is hoping head coach Firas Zahabi can help him improve his game and mold his style into that of a champion. Walker is known for his highlight-reel knockouts but admits he may need to fight smarter in order to make it to the top of the division, he said.

“At this level, it doesn’t matter if you just knock people out. You have to find a way to win and I understand this. Nobody wants to exchange punches with me because I’m a striker and I kill people if I hit them.

“Nikita Krylov is a karate guy, he knocks people out and he doesn’t try to knock me out, he just hugged me and controlled me won the ground and he won the fight. So, I have to be smart like that. In my next fight, I’m going to be smart. I’m going to keep my style, but if I need, I’m going to take people down. I’m going to hold people down and win by points. People are doing this with me, and they won, so I should do the same.
