Daniel Cormier doesn’t think his rivalry with Jon Jones will truly ever be over.

Cormier and Jones have had arguably the biggest rivalry in the UFC for years now. The two first fought at UFC 182 where it was “Bones” who defended his light heavyweight title by decision.

The two then continued to trade shots at one another and fought again at UFC 214 in a highly-anticipated scrap. There, it was Jones who got his hand raised again, but this time did it by knockout. Yet, it was overturned to a no-contest due to a drug test failure by Jones.

Since that last fight, many fans have wanted to see a trilogy, but it seems unlikely. And, for Daniel Cormier, he says the rivalry isn’t as bad as it used to be. But, he makes it clear he will never like Jones.

“I think that as time passes, things kind of go away,” Cormier said after being recognized as the second fighter in the roster to surpass 50 USADA tests (via BloodyElbow). “We’ve seemed to be on different paths, obviously. But water under the bridge, it will never be.

“I think for a guy like me who’s worked so hard to achieve everything that I’ve done. And honestly, as I said when I won the heavyweight championship,” he added. “Now there’s something so completely outside of that guy, nobody can ever question it.

“But those things that happened did really bad damage to my career,” he continued. “And it’s easier for them to move on than it is for the person that kind of had the… my career was damaged by those actions. Not his.”

Now, Daniel Cormier has made it known he is only interested in one fight and that is the trilogy with Stipe Miocic. He also expects it to be his retirement bout.

“I was blessed to have a lot of moments in fighting, and hopefully I got one more in me,” Cormier said. “That’s really all I think about. That’s it. Just one more moment to hoist that belt up over my head like I’ve done on so many occasions.

“I talked to the UFC and we’ve got a pretty clear idea of what we want to do. And now I have to see what the champ says. I don’t make the rules. He’s the champion,” he continued. “I respect that, I respect Miocic, and I just hope it happens sooner than later,” he added. “We got an idea what we’re gonna do, and I think it’ll work out.”

Dana White Says Daniel Cormier May Delay Retirement For Jon Jones Trilogy

Dana White says UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier could put his retirement on hold for a third fight against Jon Jones. This comes after the fact that Jones reclaimed the UFC light heavyweight title after DC relinquished it just a day before UFC 232. This event saw Jones beat Alexander Gustafsson in the headliner by third-round TKO.

Obviously, there is not love lost between Cormier and Jones. Originally, Cormier was planning to fight Brock Lesnar in January then retire in March. Only problem with that is Cormier not being cleared to fight and his fight with Lesnar being up in the air.

Now, with Jones being back in the fold, White says Cormier is “all fired up” about it. Thus, he could be fighting past March 2019.

“I was talking to Cormier during the Jones fight,” White told MMAjunkie. “He was obviously very angry this week leading into this fight. There was no talk from his camp about him retiring without another fight. Maybe he was just going to fight one more fight.

“It sounds to me like Cormier’s ready to fight two or three more fights before he thinks about hanging it up.” “You know me: I’m always the first to say when it’s time for somebody to retire. Cormier’s the man – it’s not time for him to retire.”

White understands the bad blood between these two fighters and isn’t upset with Cormier for all of the words he has said this week.

“Cormier will fight anybody,” White said. “Cormier hates Jones so bad. He was on a rampage this week, and he was being a bit of a drama mama this week. But I don’t blame him. They hate each other. When you hate somebody that bad, it brings out the worst in you.”

Dana White Hopes Daniel Cormier Delays Retirement For Jon Jones Trilogy

Dana White also wants Cormier to put off retirement and fight three more times.

Dana White hopes to make one fight happen as he made his intentions known regarding the UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.

One week the UFC President is stating that if a fighter is even thinking about retirement then they should walk away. Then, he changes his mind and wants a fighter to hold off on it. This is a classic example of that by the UFC President who is a promoter at the end of the day.

The UFC heavyweight champion has made it known that he wants to fight again then retire in March 2019. Cormier is supposed to fight former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar in January.

That might be up in the air and if that fight doesn’t happen, there is another fight. A trilogy bout against former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. White talked about what he hopes to see from Cormier with his remaining fights before he walks away.

“I don’t know [if Cormier’s last fight will be next year],” White told TMZ Sports(H/T to MMAFighting). “We don’t know that either yet. I think Cormier’s got a couple left in him.”

White didn’t hold back his feelings. Instead, he revealed them. The UFC President hopes to convince DC to stick around beyond March.

“I hope so,” said White. “That was what I would like. I would like to see Jones and Cormier fight at heavyweight but right now, Cormier’s team wants him to retire right now. They want him to retire right now. I hope we can get three more fights out of him.”

Daniel Cormier Explains Why Jon Jones Beef Doesn’t Bother Him

Daniel Cormier continues to talk about his long-standing rivalry with Jon Jones.

The post Daniel Cormier Explains Why Jon Jones Beef Doesn’t Bother Him appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Daniel Cormier explains why in his mind the beef that he once had with Jon Jones doesn’t bother him anymore. These are the comments from the UFC heavyweight champion who is preparing to make his next title defense. He’s slated to take on Derrick Lewis in the headliner of the UFC 230 pay-per-view event.

It seems like anytime that Cormier or Jones is either fighting or doing interviews, they are linked to each other. It’s probably due to the biggest rivalry that the UFC light heavyweight division has seen in recent years. Obviously, there is a lot of bad blood between them.

Cormier spoke with the media via ESPN this week, where he discussed Jones and the recent comments made by Lewis. Those comments were about how Cormier is scared to fight Jones for the third time. He cited Jones’ repeated issues with drug tests and how he’s passed every one of his own.

“Guy beat me, yes. But, when you’re proven a cheat, on multiple occasions. I’ve done what I’ve done, it doesn’t matter. I’ve stated time and time again that I’ve passed every USADA test without a problem.”

Cormier Over The Feud

Cormier brought up how he has been tested several times by USADA and passed every single one of them, unlike Jones.

“And I’ve put up, I did 70 or something. And that’s counting just the randoms. I’ve done over 70 random USADA tests and passed every one.”

Their first fight went down back on January 3, 2015, at UFC 182 where Jones picked up the decision win. The second fight went down when the UFC light heavyweight champion lost to Jones by third-round knockout in the main event of UFC 214. That fight went down in July 2017.

Cormier continued by stating that when he hears the name of Jones, it doesn’t bother him as much as it used to.

“That’s not counting every time I made a finals in U.S. Nationals, every time I made a finals in the International competition. So I’m well over a 100 with my in-competition tests.  I’ve never had any issues. So when I hear that name, with everything that he’s done and everything. That’s tied to his name. I doesn’t really bother me as much as it used to.”

Jon Jones Seeks Two More Fights With Daniel Cormier

Jones wants to crush his confidence.

The post Jon Jones Seeks Two More Fights With Daniel Cormier appeared first on LowKickMMA.com.

Jon Jones seeks two more fights with UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier even though they have fought twice before. This is the latest example of how it appears that this feud will never die.

History

Their first fight went down back on January 3, 2015, at UFC 182 where Jones picked up the decision win.

The two fighters have competed against each other a total of two times. The second fight went down when the UFC light heavyweight champion lost to Jones by third-round TKO in the main event of UFC 214. This fight went down in July 2017 in Anaheim, California on PPV (pay-per-view). It was revealed after the fight that Jones tested positive for Turinabol.

As a result of that failed drug test, Jones was stripped of the UFC light heavyweight title and removed from the official UFC rankings. The promotion then reinstated Cormier as the champion.

Jon Jones Seeks Two More Fights

The former UFC light heavyweight champion went on record by stating to RT.com that he wants two more fights with Cormier.

“I think that beating him a third time would really do something to his confidence. In his head, I feel like he thinks he can still beat me. Especially because the fight was going fairly well until I knocked him out. I want to crush his confidence. I want to let him know that I’m going to be Cael Sanderson. Cael Sanderson is a wrestler who beat Daniel Cormier seven times and I’m going to be his Cael Sanderson.

”He said to me once, ‘Jon Jones, I’ll always be that kid in your bracket,’ meaning he will always be in the same tournament as me. I’m sure he regrets that because we always see who ends up in the first place position when we go up against each other. But I want to break his will. I want to break the idea of him thinking he can beat me. I believe doing that at light heavyweight would be the smartest thing to do, for a third time.

“Leading into our fourth fight, a possible fourth fight for the heavyweight championship his confidence won’t be in the right spot. It won’t, and I think it will help me take that fourth victory over him. That heavyweight championship from him. I think I have his number. No matter how hard he trains, I train a little bit harder. I’m a little bit younger, a bit longer, a little cuter.”

Recently, UFC President Dana White made a bold statement to the cast of The Ultimate Fighter 27, which is set to debut on FOX Sports 1 tonight.

Speaking to the undefeated hopefuls, White was intent on declaring Daniel Cormier, and not Jon Jones, as the best light heavyweight in UFC history.

“In my opinion, the baddest light heavyweight champion of all time, Daniel Cormier.”

Jones has defeated Cormier twice, most recently having a third-round knockout victory at 2017’s UFC 214 overturned following a failed USADA test for anabolic steroid Turinabol for Jones. Still many fight fans see Jones as the rightful champion of the division, as he never technically lost his belt, but was instead stripped after a long and concerning string of outside-the-cage incidents.

During Jones’ absence, Cormier has been an otherwise dominant champion, however, dispatching every one else but the all-time great ‘Bones’. Cormier will be taking on heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic at UFC 226.

Do you agree with White’s assessment of the best light heavyweight champion in UFC history?
